Trattoria Albana

This is worth taking time out to visit, slightly off the beaten track offering local produce cooked and presented in a traditional style. All the food is full of flavour, veal stew was amazingly rich and pistachio pasta dish was unusual but totally delicious. Perfect Italian trattoria, this one will be hard to beat on all levels, scored 4.5, would of been a 5 for a table outside. Don't miss out if your nearby, Take the detour!

Osteria La Pace

Reviewed By Loz C

I'm not one to usually write reviews, but our terrible experience at Osteria La Pace, which appears to be at odds with a lot of the reviews here, has compelled me to share our experience. This was hugely disappointing, and by far the worse meal we had in our 2 week trip in Italy. Overall it is the lack of pride shown from the owners/staff that let this place down. Let me summarise a few of the reasons why...

- When we asked for olive oil and balsamic vinegar, we were given a white wine vinegar sourced from the local 'Lidl'. Being not that far from the origins of balsamico (and being charged a cover as with most other restaurants in Italy) it's not a big ask and something other restaurants manage to provide.. the cherry on top is that it came from Lidl, a discount supermarket.
- One of us ordered a pizza, and all there is to say is cheese cheese cheese. It was an absolute cheese and grease overload, no Italian would have accepted this quality of pizza and we could barely manage a bite...
- Lastly the Ragù Cinghiale on appearance looked good but soon realised it was thick and fatty, and in fact quite sickly. They serve large portions, with poor quality meat. Walking past the kitchen you can see the vats of pre-prepared sauce...
On a positive note they did offer to try remake us the pizza but by that point we didn't really have much of an appetite. It is a cheap place and rather than doing simple things well, they're trying to offer more, but clearly compromising on the quality of ingredients and therefore the food it produces.
Overall, a disappointing place due to the lack of pride from the owners of this restaurant, and from our experience certainly not worth the high rating.

We found this restaurant on the internet and send a request for a reservation for lunch as there is written that they accept Reservations on their web-site. But, we came in the restaurant and there was poor choice of meals as self-service. We took lasagne and it was awful. The pasta was more than overcooked (it was soft and sticky, EW!), there were traces of meat (it looked like there was meat once) and there was only bechamel that was horrible. BAD CHOICE!

This wonderful restaurant serves typical Tuscan food and wines which are sourced locally and prepared and served perfectly. The service especially by the two sisters Irma and Sandra is outstanding and makes you want to come back again and again, as we shall do so. Highly recommended. Well done Irma and Sandra.

A.nice little restaurant.
Service was friendly but not particularly engaging. Atmosphere was pleasant.
Menu looked good. It tasted somewhat bland. The bruschetta with mushroom was very dry and the desserts, whilst they were intricately decorated, were sadly lacking thereafter; the Tiramisu in particular was not at all what I was expecting - more like a coffee flavoured panna cotta.
An ok meal. It wouldn't rush back given the numerous other options.

L'Isola del Gusto

Reviewed By johnfjohnston - The Villages, Florida

Participating in a group effort to find the best gelato in Tuscany, this writer visited L'Isola del Gusto in Volterra. The young woman at the shop had sufficient English ability to easily satisfy every request. Prices are nearly all similar throughout Italy for this delicious indulgence. This was, without question, the richest, creamiest and most flavorful gelato so far found.
