A delightful dinner with five friends at this excellent restaurant. The food was delicious, prepared and presented beautifully. Sadly no gluten free bread which made it disappointing as my friends enjoyed what appeared to be excellent dark rolls. But the chef took the trouble to otherwise adjust the menu for me. Overall well worth the visit.

Le Restaurant est ferme le lundi et le dimanche.
We have eaten at many excellent restaurants on this trip to Provence, but my husband and I agreed that the meal here was one of the best we have had. Everything about the evening was delightful. The food was wonderful and the service impeccable.
It is a small restaurant so it is best to make Reservations ahead.

First the good thing: the food is not bad at all. And they serve lots of different wines by the glass. At okay prices. So why do they spoil it all with the rudest service ever? The lady of the house sure dislikes her customers - to put it mildly. My Happiness will follow another path! (For non French speakers: this is a free translation of the restaurant name).

This is in an old hotel, and it's a very cosy room. The breakfast is laid out on a table. There are baguettes, pastries, jams, yogurt, fruits, jams, meat, cheeses, hard oiled eggs, tea, coffee, and juices. Such a nice start to a day in Provence! Friendly hosts.

Dans un cadre agreable, nous vous recevons chaleureusement et vous proposons une cuisine francaise traditionnelle et provencale,
Both the food and the service were excellent. The wait staff was very professional and attentive without being stuffy. The food was excellent, we had lasagna, interesting starters, and superb Deserts. Interesting decoration, be sure to check out the furniture in the bar. We'd go...MoreMerci, espérant que vous passerez un excellent séjour dans notre région

Superb food, great value, lovely owners. Our dinner was so excellent, we returned again the next night! One of the best meals we had in France. Highly recommended!

We were able to feel the harmony the minute we walked in. The wife and husband run it well[chef husband, server wife], so that, despite a small room, the efficient use of space and the serving of great food at great prices make this a destination restaurant. Our meal was excellent [two sorts of fish] and the wife owner served us. Everyone seemed to be laughing and that made it even better. A bonus: our poodle was made welcome and given a bowl of water.
The spicing and sauces were perfect and showed real skill. Too often, chefs try to over do these and we were able to still taste the real food inside.
If you want a family feel, come here!!

In this tiny Provencal town (population 6000) there are over 60 restaurants, i.e. one restaurant per 100 inhabitants. Assuming, conservatively, that each eatery employs at least 4 people (chef, waiter, plongeur and manager), one in 25 Vaisoneers must work for the food business. Add wholesalers, distributors and retailers, and probably around 1 in 10 are in a food-related business.
You would think that such intense competition would drive quality up, and - maybe - prices down. But it is for the tourists, consumers who bought the French brand and want le pain, le vin and, possibly, le Boursin, and most of these don't seem to care what they eat. And so, neither do the Medieval folk of Vaison.
La Belle Etoile, thankfully, is better than that, at least out of season which is when we arrived. The slow-cooked lamb, the quail and the Pavlova were all well up to par, the cheeseboard was fantastic and the price wasn't outrageous. The views were lovely, the Waitstaff charmingly and multi-lingually shambolic, the weather was perfect. And thankfully, there was no lavender on the menu.

We were here in 2013 as well, when we came back to Vaison La Romaine I couldn't resist coming back. It is still really good, the food is unpretentious and delicious, the prices are very reasonable and the decor is very clean and bright.
