Umbertide is a town and comune (township) of Italy, in the province of Perugia in northwestern Umbria, at the confluence of the Reggia river and the Tiber. It is 30 km (19 mi) North of Perugia and 20 km (12 mi) South of Città di Castello. With 16,890 inhabitants according to the 2011 census, Umbertide is one of the larger towns of Umbria; and basically flat, which is relatively unusual for the region. It is an important regional industrial center producing machine tools, farm machinery, textiles, packaging material, and ceramics.

We arrived as the restaurant, where we have eaten many times previously, was closing due to a change of flight to Rome. The owners reopened the kitchen and the restaurant just for my wife, my 2 granddaughters and myself. We were not hurried and had an excellent meal with 3 courses including wine at a total cost of Euros 85. Cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant and the staff.

We've eaten here many times and always loved the personal attention and quality cooking. However, while prices have generally gone down in this area compared to the UK (we've been visiting since 2001), here they have gone only upwards. I fear they are pricing themselves out in a very competitive part of Umbria. The food, however, remains good.

We went for a special family celebration lunch at Calagrana, and it was easily the best meal of our trip. We ate at some pretty amazing places during the two weeks we traveled around Europe, but Alberto's cooking was absolutely the food highlight of our travels. The meal was incredible--every single course was surprising, remarkably delicious, and delightfully presented. The courses were perfectly timed so that we had a nice, leisurely lunch, and left feeling satiated instead of overly full or hungry. The drinks were perfectly paired, and Calagrana welcomed us with a really creative cocktail that we have already made many times since we arrived home.
In addition to the amazing food, the staff at Calagrana really made the experience exceptional for our family. We brought our baby, and they took turns feeding her and walking her around so that we could enjoy lunch. It made for an incredibly meaningful and memorable experience that we will remember forever. We'll come back to Calagrana every time we visit Umbria!

Great place on the square for an outdoor sunbathing lunch !
Greatly recommend the truffle dishes, mainly the egg as starters and the tagliata for main course. I did not have pasta or dessert but the menu looks very inviting on those sides as well.
The glass of house wine I got was not great but the wine list is indeed impressive.

Laura offers fresh homemade (including bread) Umbrian food as well as a lovely view of the Tiber River if the weather is cooperative on her flowered and plant covered patio.
We have visited this establishment several times and have never been disappointed. The menu changes often so you can try different foods. The last visit we had a waiter who was entertaining as well as helpful.
Make sure you save room for dessert!

In view of good reviews we tried San Giorgio.,
The food was in many ways very good but the dining experience was marred by some things.
Vegetables were inadequate and poor; a special dish of hare was described by the waitress as' in humido' but wasn't and when we came pay the bill we asked for the card machine to be brought to the table this seemed to offend the senior waitress who subsequently left us to find our coats and didn't say Good night,let alone Thank you, , despite being given a 10% tip..
I left a note in next day saying above with my email address but received no response.

The restaurant was full to the rafters, buzzing, cheerful and cosy. Chiara's a natural host, switching effortlessly from Italian to English, with service always friendly and excellent. Do try the vegetarian antipasto which is varied and interesting. We had the fresh linguine with an outstanding lamb ragu. The lamb served at NG is considered by many to be best in the area, and we agree! On Sunday, the lamb chops were big and rustic, with succulent belly pieces at the end.

The restaurant is the perfect place to eat and drink together, for lunch, Sundays and holydays, and for dinner, on unique place for an aperitif accompanied by appettizing preparation.Starting from 18,00 you can taste "torta al testo" bruschette, salumi and also inviting home made past and succulent meats.Smell of old dishes, typical cuisine of the traditional territory.Unmistakable tastes accompanied by a well-stocked wine bar all served in a comfortable and welcoming environment, with a relaxing outdoor space.The right place to spend pleasant moments all to "taste".

I've been to this restaurant a few times over the last couple of years and found the quality consistently good. What prompted me to write this review was my last visit, on 1st January. The chef, Laura, is very creative,and produces traditional Umbrian cuisine with a twist. She makes all the pasta herself.The menu she served up at this meal included squash or pumpkin ravioli with a divine sauce - unfortunately I've forgotten the details but I remember the taste - a second course with rabbit or pork or chicken, I had the pork which was outstanding, it was roasted with IIRC chestnuts. My friend had the chicken and said it was excellent. I don't remember the sides but they were very good, and so was the dessert, I think it was a semifreddo. Can't comment on the wine since I don't drink.
If you're looking for good traditional food, beautifully presented and reasonably priced, this is where you should go. Very highly recommended.

An amazing evening with great company (my wife). Giorgio, our waitress, did a fantastic job explaining the elements of each dish and recommending items from the specials board. I had the second best cheese platter I have enjoyed in Umbria since a meal for my birthday at the michelin starred Vissani. They the baccala montonese for main course and a dolce from the monte corona monastery near my house. We sat outside under the arches which was full of atmosphere and had a fantastic evening, made better by the attentiveness of the staff who worked hard to look after us without being intrusive. The owners have assembled a great team at this restaurant and obviously worked hard to teach them about the food and wines on show here. Definitely will be back. Tip - we arrived early and had a drink in the square and watched the world go by before walking the 20 metres to the restaurant for dinner.
