Top 10 restaurants in Ulm, Germany

July 21, 2017 Osvaldo Hartline

Founded in the mid-9th century, Ulm enjoyed a long history as a free imperial city, ruled only by the Holy Roman Emperor with no pesky princes in between. An important trade town for centuries, Ulm was also the birthplace of Albert Einstein. Rising 530 feet, Ulm Minster has the world’s tallest steeple, the top of which can be reached via 768 steps. Ulm’s younger sister city, Neo Ulm (or New Ulm) lies just across the Danube River and is part of Bavaria rather than Baden-Wurttemberg.

Went for breakfast whilst staying at the Hotel opposite, very child friendly, rare details like the fact that the hot chocolate, which is called Kids Capuchino is of perfect children drinking temperature, the fact that the kids breakfast is served faster than the adults to keep them busy, the overall wealth of choice of breakfast menues by "geo-style", and the friendly staff made this a truly perfect family brekfast away from home...

When going here you'll be surprised of the location right beside the flood crossing town. The sound of water round the rocks, the buzz of talk generated by the crowd, the heating under the parasols it all contributes to raise expectations. So is the old fashioned inside 'gemütlig' decorated with low ceilings and lots of woodwork.
Unfortunately you never can be sure that the kitchen is on top. Small details like a not properly cooked chicken breast are a sign of poor attention. The waiter is responsive and offers a cup of coffee or a scoop of ice-cream, but when you're longing for your main dish and lost appetite. A small discount was left upon leaving, but it does not match the damage done to the experience.
At other times this venue offered reasonable food and is reasonably priced.

We went there last weekend and had schnitzel and salad. Although we ordered the small plate we were amazed by the size of the schnitzel... Wow! The restaurant serves local beer from Memmingen which is tasty too. We were lucky as we called before and put a reservation in - the place was crowded and we recommend you call first, too. Staff was attentive and fast. Value for money is for sure: we payed 35 Euro for dinner for the two of us and a couple of beers, too.

There are few tourists in Ulm in March. On the basis of reviews in tripadvisor, I sort out this restaurant for a full midday meal. I was not disappointed. The restaurant itself is charming and well situated. The prices are extremely reasonable; the service, pleasant...MoreDear TMarchive , many thanks for your assessment. Best regards Wilhelm Schubert

Thankfully our German friends had made Reservations since the place was packed for lunch. It's crowded with low ceilings and door frames, but strangely, it wasn't noisy and we didn't feel cramped. The food was excellent--chunky pumpkin soup, a vegetarian dish which was many different kinds of mushrooms in a delightful sauce with dumplings. We were totally satisfied with the atmosphere and meal.

We had already had lunch at the Ratskeller but after walking around the old part of Ulm we were looking for a place to have a drink. We stopped in a Gerber Haus and each had a beer. The service was friendly, the beer was cold, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.

So, I'm not a huge fan of Sicilian wine, but this wine selection was well worth the visit. The staff were fully engaged with a fantastic selection of main courses. The food presentation was excellent to above average but tasted outstanding. The restaurant ambiance was appropriate but not overdone.

I went there with my family and we ordered fish and schnitzel. The fish didn't have anything to do with what you normally get as a Forelle alla Müllerin. It was horrible no taste at all. The potatoes had a bad smell and the salad was not fresh. My kids got Spätzle which he didn't even want to touch. The place is nice and the service was as well kind but i wouldn't recommend this place.
