A drive past this place tells you pretty much all you need to know. If, despite the external appearance, you venture inside then you can expect a meal consisting of poor food badly cooked, condescendingly served in slovenly conditions. We thought it would be too much to ask for moderately decent Chinese food in Twillingate and it was. We did tick scenic view but it would be only if they cleaned the windows. .

We got the Thrifty Chicken and it was enough for the 2 of us.The chicken was lightly battered, not a hard, crunchy crust, which was nice. It was also moist. We got the handcut wedge potatoes as the shoestring fries are frozen. Creamy coleslaw and a roll also came with the meal. The staff was friendly and efficient and the wait time was reasonable. I would certainly return.

Georgie’s can handle a bus load of people for lunch very well. To ensure fast service, we had been asked a few days ahead to choose a lunch from a set menu of 4 choices – clam chowder soup with bread, Caesar salad with chicken slices, seafood salad Sandwich, 2 fish cakes. I had the clam chowder soup, served in a medium sized bowl with 2 bread slices on the soup bowl rim. I would have preferred a dinner roll, but the soup was good and not too thick. It was enough for me, but a man may have wanted something else besides soup, perhaps another roll. For dessert, all of us were served 2 mini fruit tarts each which had more pastry than filling. We were finished lunch in 45 minutes. The tour company had made the dining arrangements so I can't comment on price or value.
Georgie’s Restaurant, located in the Anchor Inn, is beside the highway, a convenient location for those continuing on to the Lone Point Lighthouse or for those visiting the Twillingate Museum which was across the road. Georgies’s Restaurant had a casual décor; the interior looked welcoming and clean. Food was tasty and service was reasonably good for having just one server on hand. Parking would not be an issue,

I will begin with the surprise....prior research did not indicate that this was a cash only restaurant. We were really low on Canadian $$$$....fortunately they accepted US $$$.
Food and service very good. We were there in mid-September....already out of fresh lobster.....DARN !!!!!!!!
My wife had the lobster salad on a kaiser roll......very good. I had the seafood chowder...also very good.
There was a second surprise of the evening.....a woman who was dining there got up and entertained the house singing and using a mop that had assorted beer caps attached to it as an instrument. Many in the room knew the words to the songs. FUN TIME !!!!
I would also add that their prices were quite fair. With a beer, the total for both of us, including tax, was $24.16 CAD.
Well worth the effort to find the place.

Upon our arrival, our B & B hosts (Ruby and Mark, All Seasons) suggested the Crow's Nest Cafe for lunch. Had a delicious panini and the best coffee since leaving home 2 weeks earlier. Went back the next day after a great hike for another coffee. Nice enough to sit out on their little patio and enjoy the sun and the view. Unfortunately, they were closed the next (our last) day, or I would have been back again for another Americano. They also make great hiker bars!

A presentation of local talent including Newfoundland humor, songs, skits accompanied by guitar, accordion and an "ugly stick". After a good meal, the 50-100 guests are encouraged to participate with background clapping and singing. "Downhome fun"

Fun filled "skit" night. Traditional Newfoundland humor. Yvonne is hilarious. I had the cod for supper and it was excellent. The best tasting cod I have had in a while. I would add some advice for the dinner crew though. They need to work on their serving skills.. It's not fine dining, but service still should happen from the "right" side and not passed along the table from person to person or reaching in front of guests to pour coffee etc. I realize the servers were very busy as some of them were the actors too but a little pause to show a visitor some good old Newfoundland friendliness and hospitality goes a long way. As a Newfoundlander I was not impressed with the serve 'em up and don't talk to them way in which the dinner was handled at our table . Always put your best foot forward, that's what keeps people coming back.

This review is about our adventure because an adventure is what this restaurant gifted us!
Upon entering this restaurant, in the late evening, looking like ragamuffins, we were warmly welcomed by the owner(s). At the last minute, our accommodations for two nights during our trip had cancelled. We had just spent one of those nights in our van rental and wanted to share a nice meal prior to cozying up for the second night in the van. So while some of the other patrons shot us a ... this is a formal restaurant look, the owner(s) seemed more interested in making our experience a good one. It was as though we went back in time when the restaurant experience mattered to the owners, chef, and serving staff. It was delightful! Everything was good but our experience was outstanding!
AND, that potato soup, my husband's potato soup lol, was so delicious! The best I've ever tasted, yummy. If this all wasn't enough, our adventure continued when the owner(s) learned that we were sleeping in our van that night, that Newfoundland hospitality was not having it, they offered us a cottage on the ocean for the evening. What an amazing adventure this restaurant afforded us and we were and are simply and truly grateful! Our only regret ... we didn't share a glass of wine with the owner(s) and ask about their story.

We had a delicious lunch. They have a different special everyday of the week. We had the cod with vegetables and mash potatoes and also tasted the chili with garlic bread. Very tasty and very fresh. The staff is very friendly and you can meet locals there. I would not go for blueberry bread but that's just me. This is a kids friendly place. We would highly recommend it.

Shallow Bay Restuarant

Reviewed By retireeVancouver - Vancouver

This restaurant is located off the lobby in the popular Shallow Bay Motel. Tables for four are placed near the large low windows that overlook the bay with views of the isthmus further away. Tour group tables set for 8 are placed at the opposite end of the room – so no views. We ate 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts in this restaurant which our tour company had arranged. Neither of these meals were buffet. We had selected our meal choices prior to arriving at the motel and just gave the server our order.
The dinner choices included meat and fish. One night I had the BBQ ribs which reminded me of the frozen rib packages I buy at my local superstore which means they were fall off the bone tender, had a nice BBQ flavor, and were tasty. The ribs came with a roll, a baked potato and coleslaw that had too much dressing for my liking and was served in a paper cup which seemed odd to me. The next night I had the fried cod – 2 fillets – again very good. Dinners were filling and came with dessert too – partridge berry cheesecake was yummy. Service was efficient – in and out within the hour. Breakfast, too, had been pre-ordered so we just told our server what we had chosen. The partridge berry sauce on the morning pancakes was very good. The coffee canister was placed on the table for convenient refills. We were in and out in 30 minutes.
The dining room was very busy in the evening during the dinner hours so I would think making a reservation might be an idea if you are not with a tour group. The pub in the restaurant, the other option for having food (pizza seemed a popular choice) and drink was also very busy. Those 2 restaurants seemed to be the choices for eating out in Cow Head as it is a very small village. Food was good; dining room was attractive with tablecloths, murals on a wall, a water view for those sitting close to window; efficient, friendly service; nice clean premise.
