Top 10 restaurants in Trumansburg, United States

April 14, 2018 Concepcion Newsome

Trumansburg is a village in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 1,797 at the 2010 census. The name is a misspelling of the surname of the founder, Abner Treman. (The family routinely spelled it several different ways, Truman however was not one.) The village's application for a post office preserved one of them. The Village of Trumansburg is located within the Town of Ulysses and is northwest of Ithaca, New York.

If you're a fan of Counter Culture, Intelligentsia, and cold brew this should be your coffee stop on Cayuga Lake!

We enjoyed cold brew, iced lattes, and cappuccino from Gimme Coffee during our stay in Finger Lakes and all beverages were smooth, rich, and reasonably priced.

Hazelnut Kitchen is unique. We have eaten there repeatedly and always leave well satisfied. Many friends have joined us there for dinner and they, too, have been delighted. Both carnivores and vegetarians dine well.

What's Hazelnut's secret? Everything is homemade, including bread and ice creams. Details matter here. The menu changes seasonally, always offering something special - and wonderful (and it's posted online, too). Service is friendly. The owners are hands-on and present, crafting a special dining experience meal after meal.

We had 2 different flavors and a sundae. Everything was absolutely generic, sub par, cheapest ice cream you can imagine. So disappointing. Thus was the spot we Always took our kids when doing wine tasting. We thought it was the best ice cream parlor in the state.
Not anymore. Never coming back.

We stopped here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The place was not overly busy, but you'd have thought it was. Our server brought us our coffee and tea, but no milk, cream, sugar, etc. We tried to flag her down and she avoided all eye contact. Thankfully another server was kind enough to bring us some, but my tea was already cold by then. My companion received her order within a reasonable time, but mine didn't show up for another 20 minutes. We asked our server for ketchup and she never appeared with any. We had to wait until the table beside us left so we could take theirs. The food wasn't that great. My dish was very salty; my companion's dish in need of salt. When I was paying the check, the servers were arguing with each other. Overall it was a frustrating and disappointing experience.

The ice cream serving sizes are huge (maybe order one size smaller than you think you want) and the staff is really friendly. There are plenty of outdoor tables in a well-kept lawn area and under the roof. If you are visiting in the area, it's well worth a stop. They service Purity brand hard ice cream and I personally recommend the cookie dough.

Finger Lakes Cider House

Finger Lakes Cider House is the hub of the hard cider renaissance in New York apple country. In our tasting room, here on Good Life Farm, you can savor the craft of five artisan cider makers and many inspired local food growers. You can visit the Cider House with family and friends of all ages for local cider, food pairings, and scenic vistas on our organic farm near Ithaca, New York. We are open all year!

Cider is the "new wine" in this area and for those who are unaware, come and see what the great NY State apples can become in the hands of experienced and innovative cider makers. Even better. come and see what multiple cider makers can produce and find them all under one roof on a working farm away from the occasionally helter skelter tourism of the wine trails, You will find great ciders of many varities, ginger beers, shrub, nice small plate offerings and a kitchen gearing up to do much more; staff is friendly and very knowledgeable ,without any pretense or snobbery. This is a place we constantly recommend to our guests and many have returned as new fans of cider...much as we were after our first visit, It is a gathering spot for cider lovers and cider makers alike and all so very enthusiastic about what is happening in the cider world. So take that little side trip off Rte 96 or 89...you will be very grateful that you did.

Driving through town on my way to Ithaca and wanted a slice or two to hold me over for dinner. Living in NYC I don't consider myself a Pizza Snob, but I do like good pizza. These guys deliver. Thin crispy crust with great sauce and toppings. I enjoyed a slice with Meatball, Garlic and Ricotta, as well as a Chicken Slice with Onions. Both were extraordinary. Heated to perfection. A nice local place with a great staff. Street parking in town. I would definitely stop again when passing through. Looking forward to sampling some different slices that I saw while there.

Trimmers Ice Cream

Reviewed By Q. C - Trumansburg, New York

I love vanilla softserve. Vanilla softserve means summer and Trimmers is the place I go. Service is good. Easy parking and right on 96 as you go out of town towards the lake or on the way to Ovid and then Seneca Falls. They have all sorts of treats, sodas, floats, special sundaes using the great local hard ice cream from Purity, food...but I go for the vanilla softserve. Plain and simple. Cold and delicious. Pull in, and taste a bit of summer before you indulge in wine, cider, and whiskey on this path through the countryside. Only open during the summer months.
