We spent 3 nights here and tried three restaurants. La Pink was the best of them and we had an excellent meal here.
Our friends had the seafood tablas and the soup both of which they raved about.
Our fish was very good but you need to make sure that you have a sauce (salsa) with it or it may be a tad dry. Madam had fair english as well which was a bonus.
We would definitely go back.

We got there convinced by the nice arguments of the guy advertising Don Picha just in the front of the restaurant's Terrace. We said: "We just want fresh fish, congrio or reineta, that's it". And he said: "Yes, this is the place". Well, once seated: "No congrio, no reineta, sorry, but very nice lenguado". Okay. But then, passing by the kitchen by chance: the lenguado straight from the freezer into the microwave. "Is this what you call fresh"? They claimed it was some sort of regulation, and offered to get us a congrio (fresh) from the fish market nearby and cook it for us. That was a nice gesture, but the fish looked more like a very tired perch. Edible, mildly. But come on, you shouldn't lie to clients, even if they look candid and well intentioned.

In any restaurant in Tongoy during january-february, the service will be spotty, food often overlooked, overcooked, or undercooked. Too many visitor for an industry that is not used to this mass attendance. Anyway, this particular restaurant during the rest of the year is fairly good, not in the summer, Our congrio frito was undercooked, the locos were hard and small, the empanada la bahia was good.

this restaurant has a simple appearence, but don´t get confuced, is just the face of the restauran, the dishes that they serve are amazing, in my personal opinion is the best place to enjoy a tipical dish of fish on the region, the service is fast and all the waiters are kind, and they are very successful at the moment of give you a good opinion.

Traveling in the Valle de Elqui, we happened upon El Meson del Fraile after hearing they serve goat. Nice large shady Terrace directly across the street from the Museo Gabriela Mistral. Their "Cabrito al jugo" was truly the best i've tasted in years! Generous portions, succulent slow-cooked meat, served with side of rice, potato puree or a salad. We opted for the latter, in order to feel at least fleetingly virtuous, and the salad itself was very nice -- lettuce, tomato, green beans, hearts of palm. All washed down with a nice Santa Rita reserva Cabernet, this made for a perfect leisurely Sunday afternoon lunch. Service was friendly and efficient, but don't go if you are in a rush.

I went with my little daughter for lunch and was not disappointed. The friendly waitress said the place specialized in "Chupes" (Seafood stews using breadcrumbs and cheese cooked in the oven), so I went for "Chupe de Ostiones" (Scallops). Scallops are the local highlight in Tongoy - they are cultivated in the sea pools next to the port and are nowhere fresher than in Tongoy. Try some fresh scallops at the stands in front of the peer if you like.
Long story short, the Chupe was excellent and full of fresh scallops. The rest of the meal: Ensalada Chilena (tomatoes and onions) for me, and steak and fries for my daughter, were all well prepared and fresh.
Service was quick and the prices are reasonable. A good experience.
