The restaurant has a good service, all plates were ready kind of fast, but the have live music with a solo singer who never modulate the volume of his music. it was so noisy impossible to stay inside of it. Sorry for the food quality. We are glad you liked our restaurant and we are sorry for the music being too loud. Thank you for your comment, we will take it into consideration.

Bad service and average food.
We were told that we have to wait 20 minutes even when there were empty tables, we agreed and after a 40 minute wait asked the hostess and it turned out that she had "omitted" us!
"Coincidently" they have a table ready and gave it to us. There is nothing especial on the menu that justifies the waiting lines. Our waiter was very attentive. Food was just ok.

La Puerta

As locals, we go to La Puerta a few times every month.
Service is excellent, prices are fair, and the food is consistently good. The menu is varied enough for all tastes. Eggs, Mexican dishes, club Sandwich, French toast, burger, etc.
You now can ask whether you want Chile in your salsa or not because if you are not accustomed to Chile sauces you might end up not being able to eat your dish.
Everything is good, but the enchiladas with chicken and green sauce are my favourites. The French toast is also delicious. Hotcakes are bit dry and the only option I wouldn't recommend.
Coffee is good compared to the alternatives although if you are an espresso connoisseur you'll be disappointed. It's rare to find a good espresso in Mexico.

We loved our food (salad, pasta and pizza). My wife complained the pizza topping was scarce, but she absolutely loved her salad. I enjoyed my pesto pasta very much, and the flavour of the pizza was 100% italian.
The service was good, but it was a weekday and we were the only table.
We were happy about the experience, and we will be going back.

Chocolate Molinillo

Reviewed By gochio - Miami, Florida

Some people say that the kitchen is the best place for new ideas or projects. Since I was kid my mother always liked cooking desserts and specially pastries, so when my sisters and me arrived from school we always found cookies, cakes and different new flavors and we always told her why didn't she open a coffee business with all the recipes she had, it could be a good idea! but my mom could not do it because she already had a business and was very busy to attend another one.
When we grew up we all started searching for different things in our lives, we all loved eating desserts but nobody wanted to do them, only my mom and she liked to buy good cakes in different bakeries, but she preferred doing them, because she used to buy high quality ingredients that made the difference.
After many years one of my sisters wanted to have her own business in our town. She is an architect but since she was young she liked to enroll in different activities and she thought that with the knowledge in pastries my mother had, they could start a new adventure so she invited her to build this new idea she had, but they never imagined that it was going to change their life.
They began this business in Tequisquiapan, México, where they live, and with the idea of bringing a different bakery concept than the others in town they decided to decorate the whole place with old furniture because my parents used to have a furniture store and my dad loved to collect antiques, which through the time he had a lot of different things thinking on future ideas or for any possible business. He helped them with a few furniture, as the counter, which takes you back in time to an old México City around the 40´s. The backslash store was the other of the special details that takes you to the time where you could hear you grandparents memories and go the stores you where you could buy anything. They said you could find a lot of things in bulk in the same place like rice, oil, wine, fruits or maybe just wanted to buy sugar. It is exactly that same sensations that you can feel when you visit this business.
They thought that it could be a good idea to sell something else than just the raw materials, so they had the apple strudels, oat cookies, delicious brownies, pecan pies and the wonderful cheese pie, that our mom used to prepare available to everyone. And this made a big difference, soon the customers started asking for these products, but specially all the pastries as the strudels or the cheese cake, which they looked for every weekend they visited Tequis.
When you walk by the store I can guarantee that you won´t resist to get it inside, just because the smell of the pastries. In Chocolate y Molinillo they have a way of thinking, they sell home made pastries and you can bet it will be from that same day as they always sell the entire production, but if you are lucky you can find in the morning a few ones, or maybe just come back by the afternoon and try the just baked strudels and pies.
They realized that many of their customers only came for pastries so they thought they would need to do something extra for them, so they decided to get a coffee maker and put a few tables outside the business. Now people can sit and take a excellent cup of coffee like capuchino, expresso, latte, chai tea and a lot of different flavors with a home made dessert.
They also knew that they needed something for the kids so they decide to get a freezer with Gelato of different flavors, and if you don´t know which flavor to choose, you can try any of the them: nutella, yoghurt, tiramisu, coffee, chocolate with mint, red fruits, milk caramel, coconut, sugar free chocolate, sugar free, yoghurt and many others.
If you visit Tequisquiapan I recommend you take a look to this place and experience and enjoy the Chocolate Molinillo shop, with a coffee and a desert if its possible.

That's what you get... Pizza and beer. The pizza has paper thin crust and skimpy topping. Sorry, no salads. The prices are very reasonable at least.
The only size pizza is family large, but you can go half and half with two selections. BUT, be sure you insist that the waiter reads your order back to you and doesn't sneak off before he does. You will not get what you want, unless he repeats your order correctly.
Place is too hot inside, so sit out in the alley to be cool.
Try instead... Caterin has far better thin crust pizza, in 2 sizes, and a whole lot of other Italian goodies. It's on the highway, on the left side, leaving Tequis towards Ezequiel Montes, just after going under the overpass bridge. Big blue sign, 100 meters after the start of the median strip. Try it and watch your friends smile!

El Maravillas

Reviewed By SableTiger - Mexico City, Mexico

El Maravillas at first glance might not impress, but the food is excellent and the location convenient. This is a fine place to drink a cold beer and relax.
The menu was certainly designed with some attention, and unique dishes and ingredient combinations are numerous. Not overly abundant but well served, try the seafood in its various options. The price is slightly above average (at least what you'd expect from this kind of food) but in the end it's worth it.
An unfortunate element was the service. Non-smiling, non-attentive waiters seem to be the norm. Barely clinging to their jobs, these guys do the minimum to maintain things working. Our requests (like switching tables or getting more napkins, nothing outrageous) were met with frowning and somewhat negative disposition. It is a shame, since the food is really good.
Furniture is cheap but clean. Glassware, cutlery, etc. are in good condition. The decoration is simple but elegant and suiting, modern and sophisticated.
One thing I did not like: there was a huge dog inside the dining room. There might be stores or malls that tolerate pets---in a serious, established restaurant I find this unacceptable.
Another, even more serious thing I did not like: there's no control for smokers. Mexico is quickly becoming a non-smoker country via the strict new laws. I don't really care if it's a friend of the owner: smoking is not allowed inside any restaurant, by law. There's an outside section for that. No excuses.
Recommended, with caution.
