we spent almost 2 weeks on hiriketiya beach and ate several times at this one of the 3 beach restaurants and were very impressed with the food
service was a little patchy, and you need to wait a fairly long time for your food to arrive - they are on sri lankan time :)
not everything on the menu is always available (including beer) and you do need to order really before 7.30 pm to get dinner - the chefs like to go home i think
HOWEVER we have had some of our most memorable meals there: try the noodles and rices (huge portions, freshly cooked), spaghetti with garlic or seafood, the sri lankan curry, and the other curries too. Beautifully cooked food - and having eaten elsewhere in sri lanka i can now say this place was one of the best.

The seafood was absolutely delicious-and is a welcome break from the buffet at Talalla retreat - we went several times and we weren't disappointed at all! The Seafood is very fresh - getting to pick our own fish. It's so quiet and on a beautiful beach! Well worth it!

It feels like you are at county sumerset somewhere in Europe not Shrilanka but the price is local which makes this place very good for quality vs price. We enjoyed baked crab, tuna quesadilla and a pot of tea with milk which was amazing.

A bit of a scramble up steps to get there but lovely food and large portions and a great setting to enjoy the sunset. It was very hot when I visited and would benefit from more fans

Spent five nights, the most beautiful beach, excellent Surfing conditions. Accommodation is rustic and airconditioning would be a plus. Service is warm and friendly. Marty the owner is a gem, full of good humour and interesting information. Anyone looking for a rustic surf vacation, this tics almost all the boxes. Plus they do make outstanding pizzas.

Never underestimate rice and curry. Canilro Beach Restaurant has a sign that advertises 'Sri Lankan Curry' and that was all I needed to know. So many menus have page after page of international options but all I need to know is do they serve rice and curry. On our trip in March we discovered that this simple sounding meal was anything but and every restaurant prided itself in its own selection of curries it offered at each meal, and Canilro was no exception.
Recently re-opened it stood apart from the other restaurants on Talalla Beach because of the open and scrupulously clean kitchen, stacks of dazzling new crockery and very friendly staff. Because of a recent downpour our meal was served not on the open restaurant Terrace but under a candlelit gazebo on the beach. Each of the four vegetable curries was distinct and delicious and the crisp papadums looked like flying saucers - the best I had on the island.
Like most Sri Lankan restaurants Canilro is great for vegetarians.

Overpriced and did not live up to expectations. Service was surly and not in any way attentive. No one checked to see if we enjoyed our meal - They seemed to know how average their food was. This was a real find!! The Lagoon is beautiful and full of birds and it was one of the most peaceful places we visited. The trip around the lake is magnificent in the afternoon. The seafood was top quality and the service was excellent. We had the tastier crab we had in Sri Lanka and the shrimps were the size of a lobster!! Lovely cocktails too!! For the quality and quantity this is definitely value for money but it is not a cheap place as you can understand. Please if you are in the area and you love wildlife, don't miss this place as it is a gem and very romantic..

when we tried the lobster we immediately ordered the one more for the next day. it was by far the best we thing we ate in sri lanka. breakfast and the other dishes were also very good. but the lobster you HAVE TO try. the staff and especially the cook are also super friendly. the lobster was 2500......enjoy
