Just came back from the Fjord, because the Viking was closed. I have always preferred the Viking, cause the Fjord looks somehow socialistic to me - large concrete Terrace, dark woods inside... Anyway, the oysters were superb, when we ordered, the waiter said they have just sold out the daily inventory, sat in a car and drove 150m away to buy the oysters from a fisherman that farm the oysters here. Ten minutes later, they came to our table, chilled on ice, just fresh from the sea. Now, where can u get this ?
Grancevolo was juicy and sweet, almost perfect, so the only objection I have is that the bottle of an extra virgin olive oil on the table was translucent and not dimmed. Staff very pro.

We have known this marvellous restaurant for 17 years and we're always fully satisfied. We always have mixed mussels and bavette alto mate (with lobster). We hope that the quality will remain the same for many more years and the chef waiter also
A popular German magazine called it the best fish restaurant in Istria. Although we don't know all for us it's true.

We ate here after visiting the cave Festinsko kraljevstvo. There were only several meals on offer but they were all quite delicious. As a bonus, the owners have treated us with pancakes "on the house".

We visited La Grisa in the beautiful village of Bale whilst on holiday in Istria. We sat in a lovely outdoor courtyard with a lovely tree in the middle of it. Our sommelier and waiter, Tomislav, was lovely - welcoming, friendly, professional and very attentive. The food was delicious. I had the Risotto with Adriatic Squid which was incredibly tasty and beautifully presented. My husband had the Istrian beef which was also very tender and tasty . Our ten year old had a simple chicken breast with hand-cooked fries - so good to see a short but sensible choice of children's meals as not everyone's kids have a taste in haute cuisine!
As I work in the wine trade, I was particularly interested in discovering some of the local wines. Tomislav's recommendations were spot on and complimented our food perfectly. After dinner, we wandered around the village which is just beautiful. We wish we'd discovered this place earlier on in our holiday as we would definitely have returned. We found the price very reasonable given the quality of the food and wine as well as the lovely setting and excellent service. Not surprised it's no 1 on Trip Advisor (which is where we heard about it). Highly recommended! La Grisa is also a hotel and is located in the centre of the village opposite a big car park.

We came to Bale for a short visit, arriving from Rovinj. After walking around in the beautiful Bale we got hungry and ended up here. We had four main courses and Deserts, local wine. Very tasty stuff, typical Croatian style. Very big portions. We arrived there at 4pm and wanted to have some lunch. No problem for the friendly staff, the place was full with locals gathering around the fireplace. Cosy place, tasty local food and wine, and very fair prices.

Ate excellent local food here in 2013, but quality has dropped a little, at least as far as the local dish istrian manestra is concerned. Loaded with potatoes, and with corn and beans in trace amounts, it was a severe dissappointment.
The meat platter for two, on the other hand, was quite good and served enough food for four. The service was excellent.

The food was great and reasonably priced but the service we got was really bad. They kept forgetting about us time after time acting like nothing was wrong. Pretty much everything we ordered took few reminders to get. After a while they told us it was because of problems in the kitchen which was such an embarrasing blunt lie. By the end when we asket to take the pizza to go we got it folded in aluminium foil.
Too bad because the food was actually quite good but that was not worth the poor service

The location is a little weird but that said it is quaint! You do feel as if you're in someones home. We had the beef back and it was delicious, tender and very tasty. My only complaint is that service was quite slow, only 2 staff on. However, I would go back.

Settled in a natural environment of a lovely Istrian village, with a semi-open and completely open space is a remarkably smart solution. A flute of nicely chilled sparkling wine as a welcome drink was appreciated. That's where it stops being amazing and passes to average. Mojito was good but overpriced - yes, the prices are well noted in the menu, I'm just saying that it's not worth 50,00 kunas (almost 7,00 €). The starter was good, tempura shrimps, carpaccio and cold plate with ham and cheese. Again, overpriced. 90,00 kunas (12,00 €) for 3 pcs of fried shrimps. Finally a meat feast as a main. T-bone steak of an impressive size but average taste and quite chewy. Pork ribs very bad, as if half cooked. Sausages not bad. Pork chop hard and quite tasteless. Grilled veggies and rosemary potatoes good, but again not worth that amount of money.
The total of 220 € for 5 people was a lot, considering we ordered no wine and no dessert, and one person had just a cod fish risotto and one beer.
Will probably not return nor recommend.
Important: be sure to bring enough cash, they don't accept cards.

This Istrian restaurant was the highlight of my stay in the region of Istria in Croatia. I have never tasted more delicious and obviously local and home made food. From the home made wine to the hand made pasta and everything inbetween, there was not a single part of this gastronomical experience that left me with a (no pun intended) sour taste in my mouth. I will be back in Istria for the sole reason of experiencing this wonderful establishment one more time. 10/10 would enjoy daily.
