The village of Alloway is home to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and the Robert Burns Heritage Trail. Highlights of the trail include Auld Kirk Alloway, Burns Cottage, Burns Monument Gardens and the 13th century Brig O'Doon. South of Alloway along the attractive A719 coastal road is Culzean Castle and Country Park which offers much of interest all ages. En route is an unusual roadside attraction called Electric Brae, a 'magnetic hill' where a car left out of gear will appear to go uphill due to an optical illusion. A few minutes drive from Culzean Castle is the famous Open Golf championship course at Turnberry where the clubhouse is open to the public.

Visited with family on a busy Friday afternoon and would highly recommend.
Great special lunch time offer but also main menu and specials available too.
Food was outstanding, great portion size and well presented.
The children’s meal is great value for money and a great selection.

We were here in winter when the nights are dark and the restaurant pretty featureless without a view. But we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food which is fantastic.
However, this was let down severely by lacklustre service which was slow and unattentive. We were particularly annoyed when hot food was served before cold, with a long wait between food arriving, meaning we all ate cold food whether we wanted to or not.
At these prices, the ambience and the service would make me avoid here again.

We had dinner, not for the first time or the last. Soup and then sea bass. Wine and a Gin and Tonic to finish. Food and service was excellent.

Visited here for the first time in January and have already returned since our first visit.
The service is excellent, the staff are friendly and welcoming.
The menu offers a great range of dishes, something for everyone. The food is very tasty and great value for money.
Looking forward to our next visit.

Visited on a business trip instead of eating in the Western House Hotel where we were staying. Had a tempura battered chicken dish. The batter was far too thick when compared to traditional tempura so was stodgy. May be my choice but not well execured. Staff were very good but the menu needs a rethink. Most italians I visit at home execute every dish well. Stick to traditional italian dishes.

We have just enjoyed another fabulous meal at the Chestnuts. The food is always great, the staff very friendly and welcoming and we find it difficult to go anywhere else as the standards here are excellent. There is definitely something for everyone as the extensive menu caters for all. As a non meat eater I can highly recommend the vegetarian burger which is the best I have ever had. Can't wait to return,

Had a lovely family get together on Sunday and went for tea. Things went from great to bad very quickly. A waiter thought he would memorise six starters and main meals, and asked twice for our order. Starters arrived, one order missed therefore sat watching everyone eat, then gave toasted bread on a gluten free order, when I questioned if this bread was gluten free was told not sure!!! The plate was taken away and quickly returned with gluten free oatcakes, the plate wasn’t exchanged and the remains of the toasted bread left on the plate with the oatcakes on top. My daughter was very ill when returning home!! The meals themselves were tasty and we were compensated with six soft drinks that had been ordered. I didn’t complain but I assumed the waitress knew I was annoyed. Perhaps education on the importance of dietary requirements should be priority.

We had the best Christmas meal tonight on Christmas Eve. Plenty of choice but chose the Turkey and all the trimmings.....it beat all other restaurants, I didn’t have to ask for anything, it was all there in the right quantity, cranberry sauce, Brussels sprouts, stuffing and every part of the meal was fantastic.

Out and about for a Sunday run to blow away the cobwebs and arrived at the Kirkmichael Arms. A friend had recommended the food and we were not disappointed. The waiter was very good taking all the notes of my various dietary requirements (big list !) and the Chef was very accommodating. We both enjoyed our meals and would highly recommend a trip to The Kirkmichael Arms. There is also a beautiful gift shop attached to the restaurant ...... any excuse to go back !

This was a true surprise. We visited Ayr during the recent snowstorms in the Central Lowlands and were looking for a warming hot chocolate and coffee hit when we came across this delightful establishment. We were given a lovely welcome from Ewan and although we did not order food were made most welcome. Other patrons were dining and the food especially the burgers, fish dishes and salads looked very appealing and were being enjoyed by all. The whole place had a buzz about it. Highly recommended as it says on their card Wine, dine and socialise..
