About a 30 minuet motorbikes ride outside of the city lies one of the prettiest and absolutely delicious restaurants we’ve ever been too!
Not a cheap meal by Thai standards but for $30 we feasted on: Deep fried Prawn stuffed lychees with a spicy peanut sauce; Coconut soup with prawn and young coconut meat (Paul kept calling the prawns, lobster! They were huge); stir fried mushroom in oyster sauce; stir fried chicken with chestnuts, cashew, ginko biloba and dried monkey apples (they tasted like dates).

My husband and I cant wait to bringing our foodie friends here!

We have been here a few times and really enjoy the cuisine. After being in Thailand for a while, you might get a little over the more well - known and popular dishes; this place is so different and offers a great variety of northern thai dishes as a great alternative to the 'norm'. Our favorite by far is the pork curry, gang hang lay, it's beautifully spiced and the meat is incredibly tender. We also enjoy the aubergine dish, not sure of the name but they make a kind of mash with and top it with boiled eggs, and of course the spiced sausage. The tables come with cold tea and you can help yourself to vegetables. The menu is only in thai but this has never been an issue as a lovely lady who speaks English takes our order. Failing that there are pictures on the menu so you can kind of guess from there. Certainly worth the drive and can't recommend it enough - the portions are bigger than my pictures but unfortunately we forgot to take pics before we ate!

The Nakara Jardin is one of the many cafe gems in Chiang Mai. Set in a lovely garden setting by the Ping River. We were there for afternoon tea and were not disappointed. The dessert treats such as the pancakes with rum syrup, chocolate fondant and bread pudding were delicious. The service was attentive, prompt and friendly. Highly recommended.

Meet & Meal

Reviewed By vanicevalle - Rio de Janeiro, RJ

This is not a luxury restaurant, so you should not expect anything spectacular, Michellin style... The ambience is very interesting - they have outside tables, beneath agreable trees. They also have, surelly, indoors tables with air conditioned, which might be precious in the summer. The staff is friendly; sometimes the englis is not very good, but they try, and communication will occour.
The food was ok - not exceptional, but well done and well presented. And it was not that spicy... I like spicy food, but was not prepared to the difference in the concept between what we call spicy in Brazil, and what they call mild in Thailand... So, here, mild is mil - and this is good, at leats for me.
The service was quick - wich is also a good thing; I hate that new trend "slow food" - if I'm hungry, I want food fast...
The portions are well served, so beware noit to order too much food.

First of all, it doesn't look like a restaurant. It's kind of like an outdoor pavilion that leads to the Inter Mini Golf (Putt Putt) garden behind. At the back of the pavilion is a pool table. Then you notice that there are menus and inside it looks kind of pricey - steaks at around 400-500 baht and other western food. But there are plenty of Thai dishes, like masaman kai (chicken curry) for 120 baht and stir-fried chicken (80 baht), tom yum kung (120 baht) and fried fish (160 baht). The range of starters includes french fries (40 baht) and garlic bread (40) baht. So the prices are starting to look reasonable.
it's only when the food arrives do you realize how good value it actually is. It's a big plate of french fries, the curry dishes are ample, the fish is big and the shrimps in the tom yum kung are fresh and good quality. Everything was delicious, even down to the rice (at 20 baht: soft but with the grains nicely separated).
Service is relaxed but the waitress (and manageress) are always available. And the chef seems to rustle up the orders within minutes. That was a bit disappointing because I would have preferred a longer wait in order to play a quick round of pool actually...
The coffee afterwards was also fresh and of good quality. I haven't tried the steaks yet, but will do so on my next visit.
I enjoy eating and I usually have large helpings. So our bill for two came to about 600 baht. Our normal local Thai restaurant (Poh Piang in Bo Sang: our kitchen-away-from-home costs 200 baht, but the food is a lot simpler, using lower-quality ingredients and there's no fried fish, which I love, or coffee or garlic bread for instance).
If you're a smaller (normal) eater then it'll cost lest, unless you go for the steaks of course.
It's a peaceful and tranquil place to enjoy a meal. It might be worth having a round of mini golf after your meal as an aide to digestion. You should also take a stroll around the Golden Elephant Resort behind the mini golf course, where you will find smart, comfy bungalows ringing a beautiful crystal swimming pool (low in chlorine).
In fact, the resort was so serene that even though we live locally, my wife and I decided to spend a day there as a kind of convenient holiday (without the hassle of having to travel anywhere). A regular room is 1,600 baht (low season) and a bigger room with Jacuzzi is 2,200 baht (well worth the extra money!) A delicious American or French breakfast (normally costing 150 baht per person) is included in the price.
Check out my separate review of the resort.
