St. Francis Brewery

St. Francis Brewery & Restaurant has been serving heavenly food and sinfully good beer to the St. Francis and Milwaukee community since April 2009. As a locally owned business, our restaurant creates a warm, family-friendly dining experience. Our full menu offers something for everyone with several unique items made with our beer or hand-crafted soda. Brewmaster Scott Hettig creates traditional brews with new seasonal and cask conditioned beers to try each month. Beers on tap at the restaurant are brewed on site with the option to buy or refill half-gallon growlers of our beer or hand-crafted soda.

Visiting relatives in Milwaukee/Cudahy area and my aunt made reservations for Sunday breakfast. There were five of us in the group. We were given the option of sitting inside or out. Since it was a beautiful morning we opted for outside seating, and asked for shade. We got it but the music speaker was right overhead and a bit too loud for easy conversation. The hostess was asked if it could be turned down and she immediately complied. Our waiter, Mitchell, was awesome. Very nice and very knowledgable about the menu. He was patient while we talked and eventually decided what we would eat. He asked questions to ensure he knew exactly what we wanted, and when our orders came out everything was perfect. The food, the atmosphere, Mitchell, and the overall ambiance of the place made this a wonderful experience. I highly recommend Sheridan's for dining.

Leon's Frozen Custard Drive-in

Reviewed By Rohan d - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Leon's is a time warp sort of place that evokes nostalgia for the drive in (not drive through) of the 1950s. The frozen custard is very good, and compares favorably with my favorite Gilles, and Kopp's, Kitt's, Northpoint and Culver's. The service is better at Gilles, the selection of flabors is better at Kopp's, and there's less racism at all the other places. Just like the good things from the 1950s, this place retains some of the less savory aspects of good old days. The owner forbids the mostly Mexican-American staff from speaking Spanish in spite of the rather large proportion of customers that are Latino. He was unrepentant when his intolerant views went public, and since then we are all free to vote with our pocketbooks. In spite of his intolerant views he still gets a healthy number of local Spanish speaking customers. He no doubt gets some customers who support his English Only views. For me, I do think the service and selection is better at Gilles where the workers seem to be treated with more respect.

Polonez

Reviewed By Sebbyboy - Flower Mound, Texas

We gathered Sunday December 10, 2017 as a large group (ultimately 22 including children and infants) to celebrate Annual Cookie Baking, Family, Christmas and to honor the memory of our late patriarch and my father-in-law Walter. Many of this group are proudly of Polish Heritage. And many of us have been to Polonez in the past. It is one (if not the only) remaining Polish restaurants in the Milwaukee area.

Food is consistently very good as is the service and atmosphere. If the not for the following event, I would rate Polonez a 4 (out of 5).

Let me first state that we had reservations and a table set for 22 people. At no time was it ever mentioned that a time limit exists for dining and conversation. Two adults showed up late(one had a late flight back from New York) and subsequently had drinks but decided not to dine.

Towards the end of our 2-hour time in the restaurant, my mother-in-law sought out the bill and went to the bar area to pay. At this time, the female owner (or manager ?) of the restaurant expressed displeasure that apparently we had overstayed our welcome and caused the business to turn away several groups of people (with no reservations). She went on to state that the business lost money and she intended to charge the group for the two diners who did not even partake of the buffet. My mother-in-law sought me out as she was distraught over how she was treated and essentially "strong armed" to pay for the two non-dining guests to compensate for lost business. It was also inferred that we should tip 18-20%. Service was in fact very good and it was a large group. But this day was a Sunday Brunch (buffet) and the ONLY service was for drinks, refills and to take soiled dishes off the table. As such, 18-20% seems excessive.

Ultimately, we only paid for the appropriate number of adults and children (and not the two non-dining guests) and we tipped (I recall) 10%. Total tab "out the door" was $380 I recall. Strong arming guests and being rude is unprofessional and unacceptable. Had we been told in advance that two hours in the restaurant was unacceptable we would have likely made plans at another venue. We had people from out of state and all over Wisconsin who had not seen one another in a long time. My mother-in-law (85 yrs old) was so insulted she intends to write a letter to the business. It is doubtful we will ever return to Polonez as a result this issue. Please - treat your customers with respect.

Tried three of their pizzas and was mostly impressed with the food.

Ordered a chicken alfredo, a sausage and pepperoni, and a house special with extra green olives.

All were well prepared, tasted very good and were delivered quickly. One small complaint though. We ordered online and asked for things to be left off the special, they were not. When we checked back on the online order it was apparent that our request was not logged in. Double check what you want before submitting online.

1. I love that they offer something other than the standards that you can get anywhere.
2. Three words...ICE CREAM FLIGHT...this is 4 kiddie sized scoops of whatever four flavours you like. I had whiskey, orange cake, honey-vanilla and lemon lavender. My husband had garam masala, whiskey, beer and pretzels and lemon sorbet.
3. They are committed to their community and try to be as Earth friendly as possible.
4. Shipping! Glad we have friends in the States that we can have ice cream sent to when we need a fix.

Everything here is fresh and made from scratch. I have had their red and green curry as well as their basil dishes. All are excellent. They also have a first class buffet for lunch. Not a huge selection, but I will take quality over quantity any day.

Dobie's was recommended as an old school supper club complete with lazy Susan. We arrived at 5:30pm on a Saturday night with no reservation (we suggest reservations) and waited about 45 minutes giving us time to enjoy their old fashions. The restaurant is relatively small, fully decorated for Valentine's Day. The decor is from the 60's giving it a warm comfortable family feel. We started with breaded mushrooms, they were sliced mushrooms breaded perfectly and no grease popping in your mouth. Next the lazy susan and warm rolls. There was cole slaw, bean salad, beets, pickled corn salad, and a chicken liver pate. Dinner came with soup or salad, we both chose French onion soup with cheese. The soup was tasty but don't expect to find a lot of onion pieces. We ordered the scallops and Dobie's Breaded Shrimp (4 the size of a chicken legs). Both were cooked to perfection. This is a very nice restaurant but not an inexpensive night out, perfect for a special day or date.
