In town for an appointment at the hospital and arrived with time for lunch...saw the name on Google maps, read a couple of reviews, and decided to give it a try. Ridiculously amazing food prepared fresh, to order - no shortcuts! Went with the fish-n-chips (1/2 order) as recommended by Tiffany, and substituted the regular side for their cheese fries - holy smokes!!!!! All I can say is you have got to make the drive and try this place if you are anywhere near Reidsville...and by anywhere, I mean anywhere in the USA!!
I'll be back...cheers!

When you grow up in a town with nothing but McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's it's good being able to go somewhere different and get an actual good tasting burger and that's what Pete's offers. Great food at a great price.

Let me start by clarifying that 3 stars is a good review. Many throw out 5 stars for everyday restaurants. To me, 5 stars are reserved for only a handful of places visited over a lifetime. See my review on Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa, FL. 4 stars are for "Excellent" restaurants. 3 stars are very good restaurants.
We visited Short Sugars Saturday July 23. First sight of the building took me back to a simple time. Plain tables & bar stools at the counter. The staff was very nice & the service was good. The tables were very clean. It is a good sign when you see someone clear the tables & "wipe" off with a wet cloth.
Now for the reason we came...BBQ! We had 2 BBQ sandwiches & 2 plates of BBQ - 1 chopped & 1 minced. The meat had a little fat, not enough to be a turn off, but enough to add moisture. The meat was lighter in color than many restaurants that use pork shoulders. The smoke was light to nonexistent. I do prefer more smoke. All in all, good solid quality BBQ.
The sides were also good. Coleslaw is mayo based & adds a nice creamy goodness to the sandwich. Crinkle cut fries are my favorite so I really enjoyed these golden brown delights. Mac & cheese was ok. Baked beans were good. Not sure if homemade or from a can. Not your typical sweet baked beans. These have a heartiness found at restaurants of long ago.
I would visit again & recommend if you want to step back in time for an hour of your day.

I miss living in Reidsville and meeting my Mom for lunch here. The soup is always good and all of their sandwiches are great. I would always try the sandwich that they were featuring that day because it was always creative and yummy.
The ambiance inside is very neat and 50s oriented.
We also had them cater a get together at my parent's house back in December and the food was great! A wide variety of food, but everything was done very well.
Great service ALWAYS!

My wife and I ate at Sanitary Cafe November 29, 2017. We had hamburger steak(chopped sirloin) and two vegetables of our choice. I believe it's the BEST chopped sirloin I've ever had. It had a seasoning that made it delicious but not spicy for those with sensitive digestion. The pinto beans, mashed potatoes, and cornbread I had with my lunch made it a great dining experience. This restaurant has delicious food, ample serving portions, and great service at reasonable prices. This is OUTSTANDING home cooking. Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, etc. are available for those who don't want a plate lunch. A nice variety of menu selections is available.

I love subs, so I thought that I would try one here and it was everything that I was hoping for. I got a ham and cheese and it was outstanding. The prices are average and the atmosphere was relaxing. The service was great. It is a little hard to get to there location, because of the road construction now. Do not let this stop you from going, just take the road behind the restaurant.

Stopped for dinner, we were going to order a pizza and get the salad bar when our server suggested we just do the buffet. We told her we did not really care for a buffet because we wanted a certain pizza.
She said well we can make that pizza for you, put it on the buffet and I will let you know when it comes out! What great service! So we had the buffet and she did exactly as she said she would. We got a great tasting hot fresh pizza off a buffet! That does not happen very often.
The salad bar is fresh and they kept it clean and stocked!
A wonderful dining experience and one would we repeat if in the area!

Took my Mom there for her birthday breakfast. She loves this place in our hometown. Good consistent breakfast every time I have been there. Fresh eggs, good biscuits (toast is average however - a little limp), great pancakes.

Mayflower offers a large and varied menu, unlike most southern seafood restaurants. The scallops are humongous. This place is the truth, you will not leave here hungry. The service is second to none, everyone comes to check on you. The prices are beyond reasonable. Every chance I get to come here I take. It's the kind of spot worthy of a 60 mile detour with a hotel room. Love it.

I grew up in Reidsville and we still stop into Reid's House when we are home. I always have gotten the filet. I know it seems strange because it is a greasy spoon restaurant, but the filet is actually very good. Comes with a salad and a baked potato. Cheap eats too!
