Lanterna Verde

I should say upfront that my opinion is influenced having eaten at Schloss Schauenstein the next day which plays in a totally different league. In my opinion, Lanterna Verde deserves its one star. Solid showing in terms of presentation and flavours, friendly service and nice atmosphere. Next time, I'd probably not go for the gourmet menu, as it seemed to me the focus there is to impress with the expensive ingredients. There seems to be only a menu in Italian, but there was one waitress who spoke English and German.

Trattoria Del Simone

Reviewed By Helmuth D - Oisterwijk, The Netherlands

As a starter we had antipasti: different types of sliced meat (charcuterie) such as Salame, Coppa (ham made from the neck of a pork), Bresaola (air-dried, salted beef of the leg that has been aged for two or three months. Very low in fat), very thin slices of Lardo (pure white fat from the back of pig that have a sweet taste and melted away in the mouth) and Pancetta (an Italian kind of bacon). And then we had Sciatt (small balls of Casera cheese dipped in batter and then deep fried). We also had a dish called Chisciol that had the same ingredients as Sciatt but was in the form of a round slice. I liked that one even better than the Sciatt. And with the Sciatt and Chisciol we had Taroz (beans-potatoes-cheese-butter-onion).
The primo piatte was Pizzoccheri. This is a pasta dish but made with a type of oat that is not commonly used in The Netherlands: buckwheat. We liked the Sciatt and Chisciol but this one we liked best! A beautiful typical dish for Valtellina. Besides the tagliatelle alike pasta of buckwheat the dish also contains cabbage, cubed potatoes, Casera cheese and Bitto cheese. Lovely!
For secondo piatte we had tagliate (slices of beef), again a lovely dish.
And as desert we had a sorbet made with Braulio (a drink made of the herbs that grow in the Valtellina region). Hmm, nice sorbet indeed!
The dinner was wrapped up with a coffee and Braulio.
We also liked the friendly personnel and the ambiance. Behind our table, in the wall, there
were some rough stones and these outlined the Valtellina region,
We can recommend this lovely restaurant where you can try the typical food of Valtellina in a nice ambiance!

Soltojo

Reviewed By DavideSeiltanzer - Paris, France

The atmosphere of this restaurant is extraordinary and magical. The gentle roar of a waterfall ( visible by a large window ) accompanies the excellent and well presented dishes. The food is really good and the staff is very professional and kind. The dining rooms are set in an old building thanks to a superfine restoration that mixes the ancient stone building tradition and the modern use of steel and glass. Excellent quality - price ratio. Highly recommended!

When they say 'home made' or 'home grown' they mean it. Herbs, pastas cured meat, everything comes from the surroundings. You don't order, you get what they have in the menu for the day, but, given the location, it's a plus. No frozen, no pre prepared. Excellent. Try the liqueurs

Moreover, extremely friendly and informative service is thrown in for good measure. Been there with family and friends. Lovely mid-en-place and very friendly accommodation.
The menu is quite traditional but you eat what it is written.
My favorite was the polenta session with at least 4 different plates.
Traditional home-made pasta and the superb black truffle.
Superb sweets. An high cost-quality restaurant.

La Genzianella

Reviewed By Neillfra - Scotland

A friend and I discovered this restaurant in July 2003 completely by mistake, but we were so impressed we did a detour on a trip from Zurich to Prague in 2006 to return and eat here again. Both times we were not disappointed. I would be amazed if you were. The food was delicious: the BEST ravioli I have ever eaten. My first meal here is a defining and unforgettable experience in my life. I would return again and again, if I could. Do not expect the finest service - go to St Moritz for that and pay many times the price, but you will not get better Italian cuisine for your money. This is an honest, local restaurant, family-run, friendly, with great character in a beautiful quiet Alpine village.

I came here with friends who knew the location. It didn't disappoint. Helpful staff wonderful views and beautifully presented food. It's worth a visit even just for coffee to soak in the view. I will be coming back with my family
My only observation is it would be good if the menu was translated into to English as well as the other languages

We passed about 1 hour waiting in the Tibet Restaurant on the otherside of the Stelvio pass - so then we decided to go to this rifugio - as the path up to the Rifugio is not so easily to reach (you need to walk up for about 5-10 minutes) it is not full of the tourists. We got a warm welcome from the staff and they were very sorry that the could not serve us everything - but they made proposal to eat and we were happy about the choice, as the dishes were good.
