April 15, 2018 Oliva Fomby

Potomac ( listen (help·info)) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, named for the nearby Potomac River. Home to royalty, billionaires, diplomats, and the international business elite, it is one of the most prestigious communities in the Washington, D.C. area (and the US). In 2013, CNNMoney listed Potomac as the most affluent town in all the United States based on median household income. Potomac is also the seventh-most top-educated American small town according to Forbes. Bloomberg Businessweek labeled Potomac as the twenty-ninth-richest zip code in the United States in 2011, stating that it had the largest population of any U.S. town with a median income of more than $240,000. In 2012, The Higley Elite 100 published a list of highest-income neighborhoods by mean household income, which included four neighborhoods in Potomac; one of these neighborhoods, "Carderock-The Palisades" was ranked the highest-income neighborhood in the United States, followed by "Beverly Hills-North of Sunset" in Beverly Hills, California, and "Swinks Mill-Dominion Reserve" of McLean, Virginia. More recently, two Potomac neighborhoods were ranked among the ten wealthiest neighborhoods in the country by CNBC in 2014. In 2018, data from the American Community Survey revealed that Potomac was the sixth-wealthiest city in the United States. Many Potomac residents work in nearby Washington, D.C.

Arrived in town to visit relatives and were taken here for dinner. It was a very nice evening. Started with the Calamari and Stuffed Eggplant appetizers, both excellent. We all had the Doner Kebab, the gals with double veggies because the accompanying rice is made with orzo...seemed a little unusual. Mine was served with the yogurt and pita bread pieces and topped with tomatoes, very tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Baklava for dessert, at least for us two guys, very nice but a bit too sweet for me. All in all, a fine dining experience.

This restaurant is really a destination. The ambiance is warm and friendly, the staff is impeccable, attentive, knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. The food is, in a word, superior and consistently superior. My husband and I have been dining here for many years at both Jacques Brasserie and L’Auberge Chez François for special occasions and normal dinners. We are always delighted with our meals. Today we had brunch for the first time and it was scrumptious. Warm, homemade croissant, fruit salad, my husband had eggs Benedict and I had a cheese omelet with potatoes and veggies. Warm French apple tart for dessert. Superior flavor combinations, presentation and smells. Total exquisite dining experience each and every time. If you have not eaten here yet make an effort to get here soon. A must experience on everyone’s bucket list!

We stopped by on a Thurs night. We didnt have a reservation so we decided to just order an appetizer and wine instead. We order the Grilled eggplant bundles filled with smoked mozzarella and ricotta and tomato sauce. Delicious! The white wine was Italian and unknown to us but it was very good- crisp and refreshing. Il Pizzico offers a full menu with a nice variety of pasta, meet and fish selection. They also have a nice wine, beer and cocktail menu. The servers are all very friendly and attentive.

Objectively speaking, there was actually nothing wrong with our meal or our experience at Chef Tony's this evening. All of our food was alright--not terrific or anything special, mind you, just alright. Our meals consisted of a Caesar salad (served warm and grilled, which meant an interesting flavor and a soggy, mushy consistency), cream of crab soup (nice and rich, good crab taste, with too much Old Bay added to it), crab cake entrée (high quality crab meat, LOTS of spice, zero filler, and very little sauce), and stuffed cod entrée (tasty enough but generally unmemorable).

Like the food, service was also alright. Our waiter either had too many tables to attend to or else he was inefficient at doing his job, or both. He barely came by to check on us, but did his job competently enough.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is pretty minimalistic. Like everything else about Chef Tony's, it was simply nothing special. The noise level was surprisingly high for a place that was not crowded despite having very few open tables available. On that topic, by the way, although the restaurant does not require reservations, it is small and, on a weekend night or special occasion evening, they would be STRONGLY recommended.

Would I eat here again? Maybe. For a comparable price and better food, you might want to consider Daily Grill just a few blocks away, or Positano's (one block away) or Uncle Julio's Rio Grande (a few more blocks away than those). Bethesda has lots of good and great restaurants from which to choose. Why people would select Chef Tony's above other places is rather a mystery to me based on our dining experience this evening.

The Grilled Oyster Company

Reviewed By FJGonzalezG - Bethesda, Maryland

We returned for lunch at the Grilled Oyster Company, this time with my 89-year old mom. As always, they had a great selection, including from Virginia, Maryland, Rhode Island, Maine, and New Brunswick. We sampled all, and as you go further north, the brinier the oyster. We also ordered their delicious hush-puppies and a fried squid salad that was unbelievable. All where delicious, but the oysters are out of this world. And, the beer on tap was just perfect. This was our third or fourth time here, and this was another wonderfully delicious meal.

But, there's more! This time, we looked over the menu with greater curiosity and it looks very tempting. Also, looking at what other people ordered, we've decided that the next time we'll try something other than raw oysters. We've come here for lunch on a Sunday, and the brunch items (such as Eggs Benedict) we spied at other tables looked very appetizing.

HINTS:

Located in the fairly nondescript Cabin John Village mall, you wouldn't notice this place, but it is a gem. It doesn't seem busy at lunch time, but once we were unable to get dinner reservations on OpenTable on a Saturday evening, a few months ago.

The oyster shooters are delicious.

Sprinkles is a tiny, independently-owned, ice cream shop located in Potomac Village. They offer hard ice cream, sorbet, and soft frozen yogurt - tart and regular. The ice cream is all good quality. Sprinkles also carries bagels from Bethesda Bagels and some in-store baked goodies like muffins. In the freezer case, there are ice-cream cakes and cookie sandwiches. The store is open late, sometimes until 11, as high school kids like to hang out there.

Spectacular, authentic Greek Cuisine ! Well appointed and frequented by Greek families celebrating family and special times, this restaurant is a great place to dine. Serving traditional dishes, everything was well prepared and delectable. Grilled Squid and Lamb Chops are our current favorite Greek dishes and we were not disappointed. As a starter is is difficult not to go with the flaming cheese, Saganaki. The leg of lamb, moussaka, and grape leaves were all prepared with an extra touch and were as tasty as we hoped. Our party of six was served promptly and with elegance. For dessert we enjoyed the rice pudding, coffees and dessert wine. While a bit pricey, it was a most enjoyable experience.

The Old Brogue

Been coming here for years. Most recently last week upon the arrival of family for Thanksgiving. We were a large group so we made a reservation. Easy peasy.

Service is friendly and fast, but not rushed. Great, varied menu. Atmosphere is warm and cosy inside in the Fall/Winter, or light and bright in the conservatory type area.

Everyone enjoyed their meal, and I once again thought how lucky we are to have such a yummy, welcoming, and reliable place so close buy.

Fried chicken night is awesome, as are the Shepherd's Pie and the Fish & Chips (regular menu items). My uncle and husband had the Pork Chops on this visit and loved them. Lately, I am enamored of the Fish Sandwhich.

Good wine and beer selection.

Highly recommend!

Renato Restaurant

Reviewed By Projournalist - Delaware

Renato's is one of those neighborhood places where it's possible to have a leisurely, excellent Italian meal without feeling pressured by tables-too-close or servers-too-eager. The menu is rich with traditional and creative Italian dishes, many featuring fresh vegetables, pasta and house-made sauces. Our linguini "Zia Teresa" with seafood ($29) was very generous with shrimp, fresh calamari, scallops, mussels and clams - a wonderful dish available with either white or red sauce. Our penne norma ($19), a "standard" with eggplant, likewise was perfect. The arugula salad ($9) was very fresh.
The dining room is brightly lighted. Although there was a TV silently tuned to local-team football, the set was turned off immediately following the game. Service was extremely attentive, but not intrusive, and the kitchen worked quickly on our Monday evening visit. A very pleasant, relaxed place for a very good meal. Renato's accepts reservations, but is not available on Open Table.
