Cute little place, you could easily miss it driving by but then you would miss out on some great food and great service by friendly people. I like that my drink came in a to go cup, I didn't even need to ask. The menu is small but packed with some great stuff - don't know how anyone makes it to dessert! I ordered the bbq baked potato which came with butter, bbq beef, cheese and green onions. What I didn't know was that I was ordering for a crowd! This potato just a out covered the dinner sized plate. It was delicious and I was sorry I had to leave the rest of it because I was traveling. Definitely would recommend this place and will definitely stop again if I am in the area.

good ole boys place! nothing out standing! Service is blah if they don't know you! Hellos are reserved for people they know. Not much for answering questions about their donuts. If you don't look at people in the face how do they know you are serious!

My wife was raised in the area so while visiting, we brought the family to this restaurant. From what we've heard from her parents, the restaurant went downhill for a while but have made some recent improvements. We were hopeful to get some authentic NW Mexican Food. We were disappointed.
I understand that the restaurant is family-owned but when your waiters and waitresses are a bunch of younger people, you are going to run into problems. Our waiter was a young man in his late teens. I can't even begin to tell you how many things he forgot while trying to serve 5 people in our party. We had to ask several times for refills.
The chips and salsa were decent though a little on the hot side (and I like hot salsa). It was mostly inedible by the rest of our party. I ordered the Chili Rellenos. It was mostly bland and lukewarm. Most of our food were lukewarm. I glanced over to the kitchen and realized that they do not make their food to order. Some, if not most, of the food were pre-made and put together when orders are placed. The rice and beans were actually cold. Their prices were average. We were definitely disappointed.

My job has me going through Portales nearly every week. McCarty's gets my business every trip! The green chili strips are to die for and the steak fingers are second to none! Love love love this place and their staff are so friendly! Stop here.....you won't be sorry!

When we found this place we were ELATED!
Walking in it had the vibe of a Portland or Seattle Brew PUB... SWEET! We Thought!
Portales does not have a huge selection of restaurant choices.
We were promptly seated and placed our drink order, my son-in-law was elated when he saw a sign for Hefeweizen...
The server returned saying they had sold out last night...
We ordered our food, my wife ordered a Greek Salad.
The salad arrived dry, no dressing or Kalamata Olives (How is it a greek salad without Kalamata Olives)?!?
When we informed the server, she promptly went to the kitchen, upon her return she had a side of dressing for the salad and told us they had run out of Kalamata Olives!
No attempt was made to get my wife another dish, just suck it up butter cup attitude.
My daughter asked to speak to the manager, he did not comp the salad, he discounted the bill by $1.33
Really!?!

I love pats peanut butter shake!! It is one of my favorites. It's thick and delicious. The green chili cheese hamburger is also a must. Pats is a drive up and get down to order. No place to sit and eat but has that old fashion feel.

Came here on recommendation of friends. Little white building off the main strip through town with almost no signage. Go inside to order. Menus hand written. No frills whatsoever and for take away orders only. Get one of their hamburgers. Freshly made, piping hot, served with equally hot fries. One of the best burgers I've ever had. Would recommend and will definitely return!

Delicious home made apple pie and pineapple upside-down cake! And you can get a slice of pie and a small cup of coffee for a little more than $4.00!!! Good coffee! You can get a real old-fashioned banana split. Be warned: The air conditioning is not working.
