Few metres away from Peñiscola Castle and just aside of a quite steep street of the old city, you can find -and enjoy as much as I did- el restaurant called “El Penyon”.
“El Penyon” is a life-long, traditional, family-run restaurant which welcomes its guests with a broad range of fish and seafood local specialities.
Among them “arroces” and “cazuelas” defintely deserve the best shot.
Different daily menus are available every day at reasonable prices.
The wine list is a basic but satisfyng one, according to such kind of place; in this sense I'd like to recommend the “Capas viejas”: a dry and slightly fruited D.O. white wine made from Valencian autoctonous grapes.
Sadly there are not seaview tables for sea- lovers but on the opposite side there is a plenty of freshly made, great recipes for fish-lovers, hopefullly a lot out there.
The staff was kind and smiling as especaially we Mediterraneans are us to be.
Wheather, food and wine was so good that day it ended up I got to know a nice couple of Mediterraneans -they were from Toulouse. France- whose company made my visit at “El Penyon” surely worth to be repeated.

Asking for the best well priced restaurant in Peniscola, we were directed to this restaurant. What can I say, unassuming but very friendly and efficient we experienced some the nice seafood we had in Spain, the Black Rice was lovely and the Seafood stew was exceptional. I Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We ate here following good reviews on TA but sadly, our meal was a bit of a disappointment. To be fair, the starters were fine, so was the dessert. Our main course however, grilled sole, were both very much overcooked. After a few visits to Peñiscola and rather disappointing meals, we tried Taverneta. This is a small restaurant in the old town close to the castle offering traditional tapas. We utterly enjoyed it. Highlight was the navajas and the croquetas of calcots. Highly recommended.

Very lovely food with a good choice of crepes. Service was good, if a little slow, but they were very busy. I will definitely be coming back to eat as it was delicious & they were very friendly :-)

Had a lovely evening here with my husband. The food was delicious, we had the mixed paella and really enjoyed it. The seafood dishes that were being served looked delicious as well. Staff were very friendly.

Had a great experience at the La Lanterna ,sat outside on a beautiful evening in the Old Town we had Caprese and Carpaccio to start all done excellently,followed by two pasta dishes which were cooked perfectly,good house wine,good friendly service, great evening.

Directly from the fish market, seafood and fish. Good rice in a restaurant without frills but with a very good quality in the product and very friendly treatment.
They have a liking for what they do and that shows in the result. This time they had the artichoke menu, with prawns and squid rice, all very good.
I hope they continue with the same mood to offer good food at a good price

The Tapas here were the best that we had in Spain and the service of the lovely Lydia,our waitress, was also exceptional. We had been to Madrid, Barcelona, Tarragona and Valencia all with very good eateries but I Avant stood out.
Family owned and run with friendly personable staff and our waitress Lydia with the
beautiful smile, charming personality and enthusiastic attempts to describe each dish in English.
The Tostas Plate with Jamon Iberico, Anchoa, manchego cheese, Atun, calamar, goat cheese, shrimp and so many more Mediterranean delicacies was superb. Patates Bravas.. absolutely delicious! Huevos Rotos with a crumbled chorizzo, superb!
Lydia matched each dish with fantastic Spanish wine that was
some of the best that our group had drank in our travels through Europe. Peniscola is an absolute gem on the east coast of a Spain and this restaurant is one of the better ones there.
