Recently "specials" on the menu have all but disappeared. Given that we visit weekly that is a great disappointment as there used to daily roasts and occasionally fish and a rare treat duck, lambs liver, to mention a few.
The basic menu is excellent food quality but if you are visiting weekly the specials are important.
The serving staff are magnificent on a Thursday and is one of the reasons we visit, but they alone dont justify the journey to the Plough and dining there on a regular basis.

After a walk with our dog, thought we deserved a pint, food looked very good so treated ourselves to Sunday lunch, great Sunday menue choices recommend the lamb, several tables in an area set asside to dog walkers, great atmospher great banter, meet some lovely like minded people and the staff were just great even added our dog to the photo gallery on the wall. Dog drinking bowls and a tin of biscuits to keep them happy, a great conversation starter as you cant just give your own dog a biscuits when you have 6 other pairs of canine eyes watching you move towards the tin.

The Cock at Budworth

This outstanding village pub can be found adjacent to the main A559 in the scenic area of Great Budworth. The Cock O' Budworth is a former 17th century coaching inn, which now oozes class and style. It is beautifully decorated throughout, and is everything that you might expect from a traditional country pub; open fires, a rabbit warren of rooms and low beams. However there is much more to The Cock O’Budworth, since it’s recent refurbishment it boasts a beautiful interior that it the perfect place eat or drink and to enjoy a special night out with friends and family. This is definitely a hidden gem that once you have visited you will return to time and time again.Pete and Karen took over here in October 2010 and since their arrival the place has once again become one of Cheshire's destination places to dine and drink. Proprietor Pete has been in the catering trade for the past 16 years, twelve of those with Karen – indeed The Cock is Karen & Pete’s third successful venture as licensees. Both of them are qualified chefs, but whilst Pete remains in tight control of the kitchen Karen lovingly looks after front of house of this family-friendly, picture postcard pub. Karen’s extensive experience from her background in top hotels to managing a busy city centre restaurant ensures that your visit is memorable from start to finish, a fact to which her growing band of loyal customers will attest! Besides the excellent hospitality and the well kept ales, which include Holt's Bitter and regular guest ales, customers are drawn locally, and from further afield, to enjoy the delicious meals served. All the food is freshly prepared on site by Pete’s small brigade of chefs and where possible all the ingredients are locally sourced. Pete says “We like to make use of the best local suppliers, not just because we can be assured of the best quality produce, but also because we believe the ‘local’ pub has a duty to support the community of which it is a part of” You will also find a specials board that, when in season, features locally caught game including such mouth watering dishes as; Rabbit Pie, Guinea Fowl with Whisky & Orange Sauce, Game Pie and Pheasant Breast with Caramelized Apples & Calvados. Karen & Pete believe in the old saying ‘if something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well’ and nowhere is this more true than with their menu which features traditional pub food made to the highest standard. The menu includes such classics as; Steak & Ale Pie, Fish & Chips and Gammon Steak as well as Pete’s take on Thai Red Chicken Curry and Beef Stroganoff. Vegetarians are also well cared for, most noticeably with the Individual Cheese & Onion Pie which is good enough to give even the most ardent carnivore pause for thought! The main menu includes the option of smaller portion meals on a healthy proportion of the dishes - less quantity, the same fantastic quality! The Cock’s famous roast dinners are added to the menu on Sundays. A selection of roast meats are available served with all the trimmings, including a fantastic home made Yorkshire pudding, they are definitely not to be missed!

I've eaten here many times, both takeaway and eating in. The food is really good value, very tasty and definitely the best Indian in Northwich (against some very stiff competition).
I especially like that you can take your own alcohol. The staff are very friendly, and nothing is too much trouble.

Called in for a light lunch as we knew from past experience that the fish finger Sandwich (now renamed the pub sandwich) was really good. Initial experience was not good - I went to the bar to order whilst my wife went to choose a table (the place was virtually empty apart from a very noisy group by the fire and a couple having coffee). My order was taken and when I was asked where we were sitting, I was abruptly told "you can't sit there it's the restaurant", we were told we could sit at a cramped table next to the noisy group, my wife pointed to another vacant table and was told "you can sit there but you will have to be gone by one as it's reserved from then" - we agreed as it was only 12 noon. Given the time limit they imposed they didn't exactly rush as it took 20 minutes for the food to arrive!
When we left (at 12.45 - we know when we are not wanted) the place was virtually empty and one table for 2 was taken in the restaurant area which suggests that people are aware that if you only want a bar meal you will be crammed into about 6 small tables around the bar and allowed to gaze out upon the beautifully laid tables in the vast but deserted restaurant area.
Quite why they don't have the brains to release a few "restaurant" tables for bar food customers at lunch times (we have been there a few times and have never seen more than 3 restaurant tables taken) is beyond me. I can only assume they don't want this type of business, in whicn case they are to be congratulated as their plan is certainly working as we won't be back.

Think they knew at end of evening, as we had waited so long for forgotten meals we were last. Offered a free drink but we were driving so , thanks anyway, but it could have been better. Give it a go again , hopefully as good as our first experience and review which was great.

Well done to the Fishpool inn and all the team involved. We recently had a family party to celebrate our daughters 21st. We had been to the Fishpool a couple of times and we liked the menu and location. First impressions on the day when we arrived, David who was the manger knew all about our party and the few changes that had been made. We were introduced to Clara who was tasked with looking after our party for the afternoon. There were 23 in our party and all received starters and mains together which was excellent, well done to the kitchen staff. The food was amazing and delicious. Clara was so organised and professional throughout and made our celebrations run smoothly and without any hitches. We would not have any hesitations in booking the Fishpool Inn again whether it be for the two of us or a large party, thank you.

Chime Hartford

I suppose we should let you into the secret behind the etymology of Chime. Our brother-in-law would like you to believe it was a "never to be repeated feat of intellectual marketing genius"; we however need a bit more convincing! The name derives from the fact the building houses a Victorian fire bell which would have 'chimed' in days gone by - although we are hoping our chime portents a more positive future than that of the past. Our neighbour, the Red Lion Free House, housed Hartford's horse-drawn fire engine and the associated fire bell was positioned on our building - you'll notice that the bell has been restored to its former glory thanks to the Hartford Civic Society. Therefore here we are; via a combination of apparent 'genius' and a link to Hartford's civic history, the wine bar was christened 'Chime'.Topheader Rolling back history to October 2013 to that fear inducing day at the auction, the gavel fell and we were the proud owners of a building with an interesting history, superb potential, but that needed a lot of tender loving care. Having taken a deep gulp of wine - well we needed all the training we could get to call ourselves sommeliers - we set about bringing our dream into existence, engaging excellent tradesmen and with a huge amount of support and encouragement from the Hartford community the building you see was quickly created. A building that we hope reflects our vision of warmth and conviviality, and one that provides an environment in which you can create memories that you, your friends and family can recount in days to come.

It will be my absolutely last visit ... I’ve tried several times over the years and given constructive , balanced feedback in every visit but clearly I’ve not been heard .
Was initiated served by a really lovely girl but she completely misinformed us about the menu.
Again ... greeted quizzically ( in spite of booking ).
Seated , ignored ( until we managed to make eye contact with staff member , over half an hour to order drinks ), but eventually ordered drinks .
Ordered mains at same time for fear of being overlooked again. A long wait for food to arrive ( it was mid aft , mid week ,so not too busy ) , I don’t mind waiting for good food but it was very average .
The drink was £8 , mainly ice .
But what was worse was that we were left over an hour before our table was cleared and when we asked the scruffily dressed waitress , very politely if it could be cleared , her response was “why ? Have you got more to come out of the kitchen or something ?!” Said in a very sarcastic tone .
My friend explained that she may order a dessert and the same girl replied “ oh right , well I wouldn’t know because you never said .”
So rude !
In the same conversation , we asked for our bill , for fear of being kept waiting again .
Nearly 3 hours in total and over £50 for a snacky lunch , which consisted mainly , of waiting , with no r assurances or apologies but a big helping of rudeness .
It was my last shot , will not return again .
Poor show ...
