I'm pretty much a cupcake aficionado at this point in my life (I would put myself in a pro-am category). I basically run and workout so that I can eat cupcakes. I have even been a cupcake contest judge (a bucket list item I didn't know I needed). So it is with much joy, fine TripAdvisor readers, that I give you the best cupcakery in the MD/DC/VA area... Lavender Moon. It's on a little sidestreet off of King Street... parking can be a bit of a challenge and it's a bit of a walk down from the King Street Metro stop (unless you take the free trolley that runs from the metro down to the river), but Lavender Moon is definitely worth the effort. They have flourless cupcakes (good for those with gluten intolerance) and both some special, rotating flavors, and some fabulous constants (the lemon curd is probably my all-time favorite). I love their cupcakes the best because 1) they are always fresh and moist tasting, 2) they have interesting flavors that are sure to please everyone in your group, and 3) the value is incredible... I think they are $3 each for a little piece of heaven. Enjoy--you will thank me!

Stopped at Ben and Jerry's after an enjoyable meal at a local restaurant. Ice cream was rich and creamy - lots of flavors to choose from. Hadn't had any Ben and Jerry's since they sold out to Unilever but quality was still as I remembered.

We thought the crab cakes were excellent--had traditional, hawaiian (surprisingly tasty) and crab & shrimp. The fries were very good, as were the muffins. The only thing preventing 5 star rating was the small size of the crab cakes--the tastes were 5 stars. We would return.

Grace's Mandarin

My husband had a meeting at National Harbor, and a group of ten of us went here for dinner. The decor is eye-catching, beginning with the replicas of terra cotta warriors that greeted us at the entrance. The restaurant is three levels with large windows giving a wonderful view of the waterfront. The place was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. The menu is quite extensive with lots of choices, including sushi, tempura, and of course, many typical Chinese dishes. The two of us shared a selection of small plates and an order of vegetable fried rice. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and the service was excellent. Our waitress even graciously gave the group separate bills.
Their prices are a bit high but not outrageous and about the same as the other National Harbor restaurants.

Went after having a nice lunch at the Seafood Market next door. Was expecting some great tasting, homemade, creamy ice cream. I decided to get the black cherry, which is my favorite. It tasted like vanilla ice cream. Had almost no cherries in it. And on top of all that was a little icy. They must let there refrigeration get to warm and them refreeze. Wont be going back.

This is a wonderful little restaurant with amazing food. We were fortunate to arrive just in time to get a table, it is small and seating is limited, well worth the wait. Everything we ordered was perfect from the summer roll starters to the Vietnamese ice ca phe, not a thing I would change. The menu is diverse - suitable for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Bowls of pho to perfect banh mi sandwiches, choosing is a challenge. Cannot wait to return to try something new!

I had a great meal this evening at Succotash restaurant. I didn't want to wait for a table so I ordered take out and waited at the bar. Great atmosphere with plenty of seating inside and out and a big bar. I ordered the Short Rib and the Bacon Mac'n Cheese. I m not usually Mac'n Cheese guy but I really liked it and it was all gone before I remembered to take a pic. You will see the ribs though. I could only eat one of the three portions... it was huge and soooooo good. I would have had cornbread and dessert but I knew I couldn't finish the dinner soaybe next time... because I'll be back!

Looking for an alternative to the over-priced and limited menus at the Gaylord, we found this place tucked next to the stairs, across from the Peeps store. We ordered salads and liked them so much, we came back a couple days later! The "flats" sandwiches are also a nice, and nicely-sized option.

Whenever I have a hankering for a great Greek Gyro, Vaso Kitchen is my go to spot. Vaso’s sets the standard for tast bud popping Gyros, with plenty of meat, feta all the fillings are freshly prepared. French fries are hot, crispy and accompany the Gyros so well. I have popped into Vaso’s on several occasions thinking I was going to try something else, I just never get there. Easy parking in their lot or on the street. Oh yeah – Good affordable wine selection and a good beer list. Friendly, helpful wait staff.

Le Refuge Restaurant

Reviewed By Ryan W - Wilmington, Delaware

Sacre Bleu! I've been enjoying gustatory excellence here since it format started as L'Estaminet and through its change to Le Refuge... If just gets better!

Was in Alexandria, VA today (12/2/17) for the annual Scottish Walk (I am a Stewart!) and was searching to find a place for lunch for four of us. Called Le Refuge (right on N Washington St up from King in the center of Old Town) and snapped up a table for four before others could! We were all happily pleased!

We had some luncheon specials (Endive with Roquefort, Walnuts and Apples Salad, Cassolet, Quiche Loraine and Bouillabaisse) and some from the main menu (French Soup a L'Onion). The wine was a superb Chef Suggested Le Macon White Bordeaux.

They were ready to seat us when we arrived slightly early. Service was fast and attentive. All our appetizers and entrees came out for us together, but following so we were not hurried. Water and wine refilled unobtrusively...

You cannot go wrong experiencing this restaurant! C'est Magnifique!
