Letty Mae's Tea Room

Reviewed By JohAnna C - Bloomington, Illinois

In the beautiful serene small town of Morris Il sits this hidden gem. It’s located behind the bank (I didn’t see it at first) with a courtyard atmosphere. It is nostalgia at its finest. Do you remember the beautiful old tablecloths and China your grandma had? Letty Mae’s acquired these treasures and creatively displays them to create this two level tea room. The staff is incredibly friendly and the owner came out to chat with us. I opted for the broccoli soup, Cobb egg salad sandwich and coconut cake. The soup was rich and creamy, perfect for the chilly day. My sandwich, served on marbled rye was a pleasant interpretation of the salad I love. It had a little blue cheese in the egg salad and served with cucumber, onion, lettuce, & tomato on top. The cake (OMG) was a dense cake laden with coconut in the frosting. This is a perfect place to go have lunch with friends! What a beautiful find tucked away just 1 hr 15 min from Bloomington. I highly recommend you visit and see for yourself!

Morris Bakery

The Morris Bakery is a must try for anyone who likes doughnuts, dinner rolls, cinnamon bread..... Very reasonably priced. Brought some doughnuts into work today and received many comments about how good they were. Still very warm when I picked them up - could not have been any fresher than that!! Great stop in historic downtown Morris.

When I'm in a hurry and can't do my own French pressed organic bean coffee, and I'm not in the mood to drive 30 miles to the closest Starbucks then this is your place. It's fresh, it's good and better than McDs, Dunkin Ds, and the truck stops.

Dairy Queen

Reviewed By Russell R - Wilmington, North Carolina

This is a local friendly Dairy Queen. It fits perfectly with the Morris small town atmosphere. I noticed that they were closing early on Friday so their employees can enjoy Cornfest. The DairyQueen at the mall would never do that! I had a Turtle Blizzard with Heath Bar added. It was handed to me by a charming lady with a lovely smile. The Blizzard was made to perfection. Now you may ask how can a Blizzard be made to perfection. Blizzard perfection is the right amount of ingredients and the mix. Getting pieces of Heath and nuts down to the last bite is the final test of perfection. This Blizzard had that. The most amazing part is that you can get all this goodness without stepping out of your car! Dairy Queen is one of the last simple pleasures of life that do not require a smart phone or a special app. It is just pure pleasure!

The Greenhorn Saloon & Eatery

Reviewed By Illini1982 - Mundelein, Illinois

My wife and I spent the day in nearby Starved Rock State Park. On our way back to the NW suburbs we looked for a place to get supper. My wife searched the internet for a place in Morris. She thought the Greenhorn sounded good....looked like a pub, so we decided to give it a shot. The place is very non-descript from the outside. Once we went in, you could see it had the look of an old Western pub, concrete floors, a mixture of regular and tall tables and a big bar. Nothing fancy, but clean. They have a large menu of food, appetizers, and alcohol. They have various versions of moonshine, some unique cocktails, and even a nice variety of martinis. I'd never have guessed! The martinis were only $7--about half of what you'd pay in the 'burbs or in the City. We asked the waitress for suggestions...I ended up with the Greenhorn sandwich--a very nicely done ribeye steak sandwich that was tender, served on very soft bread. It was nearly the size of a Subway footlong--very large! I got it with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were real---excellent and the ribeye was done perfectly. It was a large meal--I only ate half. My wife got the "special." It was new to the menu....stuffed grilled chicken-stuffed with sauteed shrimp and a hint of spinach, covered with a lemon sauce. She had grilled vegetables and you have a choice of potato. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! The owners should make this an everyday item for the menu. It truly was one of the best entrees I have had in the past 6 months. If this was on the menu in downtown Chicago, they would charge $40 for it and it would be worth every penny. It was $15. She also had a homemade crayfish--yes--soup that was fabulous....just a touch of spice. She had never had crayfish before, nor had I and it was delicious. I actually poked my head into the kitchen to say what a great meal it was to the cooks.
What a surprise this was....the food selection was absolutely wonderful. I'd go here once a week if it weren't 80 miles from home. Don't let the simple outside appearance fool you...it was a great spot...maybe 5 minutes off of I 80 in Morris.

Maria's

We absolutely love Maria's and make excuses to drive to Morris just to dine there. My husband adores their pork chops--and I love their chicken parmiagana, but their deep dish pizza and prime rib is just as delicious. There's an accompanying salad bar (beyond lettuces, bacon, and croutons there's also varying pasta salads offered) with all entrees and hot bread delivered to your table. (But I also recommend their garlic bread with cheese as an appetizer.) Desserts are perfect (chocolate raspberry cheesecake!) if you have room because the portions are always generous and delicious, Staff is uniformed, friendly, and efficient. You need reservations on weekends because it gets crowded, especially Saturday nights. Right on Route 47 with its own parking lot!

Morris Diner & Pancake House

Reviewed By Calmac3 - Crystal Lake, Illinois

Conveniently located right off route 47 in Morris with off street parking, this diner and pancake house has the requisite booths and tables and looks like any other breakfast house anywhere. There's an extensive menu filled with crepes, omelettes, skillets, frittatas, griddle pancakes and sandwiches and the wait staff is very friendly but it's nothing out of the ordinary or extraordinary taste wise. Reasonably priced, filling portions, seems to have a regular clientele.

Bellacino's Pizza and Grinders

Reviewed By Nancy V - Reno

Not bad for a chain restaurant.

The interior is utilitarian but nice. It is pretty much standard set-up with high and low tables with metal/plastic chairs and decorative elements. The service is order at the counter and they bring it to you - much like most semi-fast food places.

The staff were very friendly and it is the personable service and conversation with the lady who waited on us (owner?) that really helped bump this up to very good. Yep - what I love about small town eateries.

We decided on salads as we wanted something "light". My husband had the seafood salad, I had the chicken. Both were huge and had generous portions of the protein. The lettuce and vegetables were all fresh and the dressing was packaged, but good quality.

Their specialties are pizza and sandwiches, but we would come again for the salad.

Really good option when traveling through the area.
