Amazing to find such a solid, long standing, local establishment! It's the kind of place we've stumbled upon during travels in European home-towns. These folks know their customers by name, treat the newcomers (us) like old friends, and serve solid plates of hearty fare. Very fresh salad bar. We were seated promptly, beers served cold, cocktails generous. All 4 entrees served at once with correct temperatures. Steaks and duck were all very good. We comfortably lingered over dessert and after dinner drinks,

Had dinner last night and it was okay, but not great. First, the waiter was brand new, it was his first night. He did fine... I’m sure he’ll be great in a few weeks. I ordered a grapefruit martini, one of the House specials. My husband ordered a regular martini on the rocks. Both seemed weak and my husbands arrived straight. We shared a tuna avocado salad and dumpling appetizer, both were very good. We both ordered the same entree, tenderloin and scallops. It was good, but not great. Maybe it was just an off night, I’d try again.

I thought I was slick taking my family near by to dinner and going for ice cream after dinner but there were more slick people than myself. This place was packed. Well orchestrated line on a nice evening. Everyone conversing about what they are going to order or what they have had in the past. This was our first time but well worth the experience.

Macdaddy's Macaroni & Cheese

Reviewed By BibleBobK - Stratford, Connecticut

When I was in college (Go UCONN Huskies), as I did not have a meal plan, my weekend feeding frenzy consisted of Kraft Mac and Cheese. Well over those 39 years mac and cheese has come a long way. Macdaddy's offers so many mac and cheese combinations that one has to study the menu to see what will most tempt their palate. My sweetheart and I had been to the competitor in Milford (see my review on Mac N' Out) and went to Macdaddy's. Their lobster mac is to die for. They come in three sizes, yes a bit more pricey than 10 for a buck Kraft, but it's comfort food at its finest. The inside of the place is not much to look at, but the mac and cheese is excellent. When in Monroe if you have a mac attack, stop by Macdaddy's.

IL Palio Restaurant

Housed in a magnificent building, this luxe Northern Italian restaurant makes you feel thousands of miles from the Shelton corporate park where it is located. Il Palio is known for its homemade Italian cuisine, an extensive wine list, and exceptional service in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

You'll feel transplanted as you walk up the steps to Il Palio - that is if you've driven around Corporate Park and passed Michelangelo's Vitruvian Man and the replica of his famous David. The restaurant itself is just stunning, dark woods on the upper level, hand painted walls; light, bright and airy, floor to ceiling glass windows on the lower level for New Year's Eve. Now, the food. Ahh, the food. I'm caught off guard here as I would recommend a dish, but everything I've tried here has been a gastronomical delight. p.s. There's another big secret at Corporate Park: Il Palio's chef apparently runs a small cafe-like store across the way where, on a Tuesday before the Park's free Shakespeare class, you can stop, grab to-go delicious baked goods, a hot meal, or healthy - super healthy - salads with salmon, chicken, beef or just plain beans.

We went on restaurant week. The 3 course dinner was $33.17 other restaurants are only $27 or so. I have to say the cream of asparagus soup was very good. The cod said it had crab and herb topping and you couldn't even see the crab. If they didn't advertise it you wouldn't have known, They were like flakes not chunks or even small pieces. Rice was room temp. The brownie ala mode was good. A glass of wine was $9.50.

I had a heard a couple of people highly rate this restaurant so was eager to try. We arrived on a weekday to find a full car park - excellent, in as this must be good; worrying in that - oh should we have booked? On entry, there was plenty of room.
Menu looked good, very pleasant ambience - yum, yum.
From then on, it was run of the mill: service not bad but refilling empty water glasses only by request and an empty wine glass remained empty - no one came near us. The food wasn't bad, but it never reached the level of "must come here again".
Sad - we had hoped for another good restaurant in Monroe.
Overall - perfunctory. Hope it finds it's feet and we can count on it as a local eatery.
