The Meers Store And Restaurant

We have eaten here multiple times and the burgers just aren't good. Yes, they are big but have no flavor. We add more pickles, onion, and mustard to get some flavor but it doesn't work. The meat is just too lean to have flavor. I have had the ribs and they are okay. My husband has had the chicken fried steak and likes it. The salad bar is small but good with homemade ranch. NOW the reason to go to Meers is for the cobbler!!!!! Get it served ala mode with homemade I cream. Our favorite is the peach...other prefer the Apple or cherry...They all have great crust!

Located in a quaint little village called Medicine Park is this historically interesting restaurant. You walk in and you are seated right away. Wait person attended to us immediately. I ordered the grilled shrimp with grilled mixed vegetables. My son ordered a grilled chicken salad and skillet cornbread. Meal was served within ten minutes. All was very tasty and prepared to order. For dessert I ordered coconut cream pie, which was not worth the five bucks charged. my son ordered the skookie of the day, which was a chocolate chip cookie in a skillet with ice cream and chocolate syrup. He thought it was very good. We would go back again.

The ice cream we had was great. It's a great alternative to the predominant ice cream stores we have in this area. It really is home made. What a treat. We had cookies and cream and blue berry. The flavors were rich and smooth. We will certainly be back.

While traveling on business trip we stopped into Firo pizza. Make your own pizza or choose from their speciality pizza. Made and cooked to your order. We chose chicken Alfredo for one and chicken pesto for the other. Both great choices. We enjoyed fresh side salads too. We were too stuffed for gelato. Next time for sure.

We stopped in at Cockeyed Bob’s based on reviews after spending time at the Wildlife refuge. Most online reviewers seemed to really like it, but our group was underwhelmed. We were down on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and stopped in around 1pm or so. There were 4 in our party.

My husband said: “Certainly not what was expected after reading the reviews online. It wasn’t anything special and I wouldn’t go there again.”

Here’s my review:
I would have rather just packed my own peanut butter & jelly sandwich from home and not even bothered with this place. It appeared poorly managed, they were quite busy and somehow had gotten really backed up in the kitchen with both food and cleaning of dishes. When we arrived, we were seated but they told us the kitchen wasn’t taking orders for at least 10 mins. No problem we thought, just order our drinks. So we did, the time passed pretty quickly.

During this time, we could hear the owner barking out orders to the cook and wait staff. Because we were seated at the back table, which is directly across the doorway to the kitchen, we heard it all. I was also able to see the queso being poured into a crockpot straight from a mega-size wholesale can. Made me realize I likely wasn’t about to get anything special or uniquely homemade here.

When the 10 minutes were up, all the sudden the owner was yelling to the waitresses that she was waiting on orders.

At our table we had 2 Memphis melt bbq pork sandwiches, 1 order French toast and 1 kids’ grilled cheese sandwich. Honestly, there was nothing special about any of the dishes. The bbq sauce was way too sweet. (As was the sweet tea, and my sister LOVES her tea sweet…it was TOO sweet and she couldn’t finish it.) On a good note, the grilled cheese actually looked pretty good and the French toast was good.

To be fair, the waitresses were sharing duties to help cover everything, and they were accommodating with a cheese choice substitution.

So, why would I not give this place another try?
Besides the owner yelling in the kitchen, the biggest turn off was the waitress running around with a cut-off shirt which left more to see than the diners need in an eating establishment. That is just tacky unless you are going to a place that prefers wait staff to be attired in this manner.

Maybe you will have a better experience than we did. Sitting outside would be a good idea because then you won’t hear and see all the goings on in the kitchen. Maybe a day other than Sunday on a busy holiday weekend? I don’t know. But I certainly don’t see what makes this place amazing to so many people.

We've been here a few times and really enjoy the burgers. My husband had the mushroom Swiss and he like it a lot! I had the bison burger and it was very good. I decided to add hot wing sauce on the burger and it was even better with that! We paid $45 PLUS tip for 2 Burgers, two beers, and a Margarita slushy drink. The view on the patio is excellent, but the price is too high!

We stopped in for lunch and all loved our meals. The choices were plentiful. Our waiter, Larry, was great with the little kids and took good care of us. The complimentary chips, tortillas, sopapillas and queso and salsa were all fresh and good. The chicken fajita salad was so good. You can’t get shredded beef very often so this was nice to find on the menu. The chimichanga was done with just the right amount of crisp to make it top shelf.
