Every time I am anywhere near McHenry, I head for the Riverside Bake Shop. I love their cinnamon raisin bread (they'll slice it for you) brownies, and butter cookies. But I'll also load up on their donuts, apple bread, and hamburger buns. They have daily specials, their prices are extremely reasonable, and there's street parking. It's a small place and crowded on weekend mornings. So delicious...

Was in the area Route 31 in McHenry and saw a sign for Brunch Cafe. Pulled into the strip mall and found it in the rear of the strip mall.All I can say is SUPERB service and food selection. Had a special that was unique and very good. Plan to go out of my way to go again.

I've taken my family there 3 times since we discovered this place about a month ago. We tend to get a bit of everything between us - Burgers, brisket, pulled pork, chicken, sausage, sides. We haven't had a bad item yet. Prices are reasonable for real bbq. Food is served rather quickly. Their sauces are all incredible. The only negative is they tend to run out of pulled pork rather early some days. I understand that this can't be fully controlled, since it's all long smoked, but I've run into this 2/3 times I've been. Not a big issue, but something they will, hopefully, correct in the future.

My wife and I went to Happy Jack's for an ice cream treat.I always marvel at the patience of the servers behind the counter. I make certain I know what I want, when it is my turn. The portions were more than generous, and mighty tasty. I love looking at the old Coke paraphenalia, as well as other historical mementos. The place just gives you that good old hometown feeling.

We picked this restaurant for it’s location and good reputation. We weren’t disappointed by the atmosphere or the delicious food. There was a variety of Italian dishes, and other choices on the main menu as well as specials of the day. The wine list was extensive, and the bar area had many patrons enjoying their evening. In warmer weather you can sit in the back which is right off of the Fox River. Try it, you’ll like it!

On the northwest corner of 120 and Chapel Hill Road, you'll find an unusual shingled building, with a roof that resembles an upended ice cream cone.
The present occupants have been there for decades. They sell chocolate candy (handmade daily) at $23.99 a pound; 14 flavours of fudge at $13.99 a pound; toffee; peanut brittle; ice cream (sample the "exhausted parent" flavour -- espresso, bourbon, and dark chocolate); and also feature walls of retro candy in glass containers with the written on the rims or sides.
Although the building hasn't made the county landmark list (which is mostly homes, cemeteries, schools, churches and town halls) it is a fascinating structure. Since its construction in the 1930s, it has been a hot dog stand, an ice cream store, and a pet store -- among other things. And now it is home to the very welcoming (note the giant "hello!" greeting at the entrance) Chocolate Factory.

What a delightful place! We stopped for a late Sunday breakfast/early lunch and were greeted with valentine decorations, artist plates and teacups on the walls, and gorgeous wooden furniture throughout this homey comfortable restaurant. My husband had the Garbage Mess skillet (which he loved except for the black olives) and I had the Monte Carlo sandwich (delicious except for the soggy bottom pieces of strong French Toast). Prices are very reasonable, there's an extensive menu, and daily specials (Icelandic cod fish fry and boil on Fridays!). Waitstaff is very friendly and efficient. Love the fact that the menus are in the first few pages of children's books and there's a model freight train in the back section that delivers food and drinks. Definitely recommended and definitely will go back!

My love and I had dinner here the other night and loved it! The chive dumplings, green peapod soup (a creamy, delightful concoction that I've never seen on the menu of any other Thai restaurant), pad Thai and Panang Curry were all superb! Service and atmosphere were nice and it was a relatively inexpensive dinner. We will definitely go back! Oh - and lots of vegetarian options.

Great food, great service. The Moy family runs a great place. Before the expansion a couple years ago, I wasn't a fan of the wait on weekend nights, or Sunday lunch. NOW, things move much quicker and I think the food quality is even better, and I have always enjoyed it! If in McHenry, this is a great stop. Egg rolls are a favorite and Dragon Double to share as a couple. Perry is a great host!

Have always had great service, whether for breakfast or lunch. Just a minute off of Bull Valley Road and Ridgeview Drive in McHenry. Owner/waitress always makes you feel right at home. Have enjoyed their grilled chicken sand, Turkey cranberry sand, and California wrap for lunch, with a choice of homemade chips or sweet potato fries!
