Centonove

There’s a touch of quality about everything at Centanove and it’s probably a cut above most other restaurants around Kew, particularly if you’re looking for something a little more elegant for that special night out. Service is first class, the wine list is varied and the food, including the yummy bread, absolutely fresh.

The menu selections are excellent, particularly their risottos, whether it be mushroom or the seafood variety using flu swimmer crab. Cannot you praise the calamari to highly, it is a beautiful concoction. I have always enjoyed the freshness of the food in this restaurant it is delightful succulent and always quality. My wife particularly enjoyed the Kris Pinot Grigio - clean and crisp, great for a hot day. Waiter service is excellent very attentive, supportive and personable. We particularly congratulate Keaton for his service he did a great job today we dined. All in all, we both praise this restaurant it is a great place to go and enjoy a first-class meal. Thoroughly recommended to anyone, as described above and you will enjoy the experience. It is somewhat expensive, but it is fine dining after all, and it is worth paying that little extra for great quality and great surroundings.

Quaff

Reviewed By Eileen E - Perth, Australia

We were guests of a friend dining at Quaff for the first time and were impressed with everything about the experience, meal, ambience, and service.
We were fortunate to get a last table at the last minute on a Saturday evening. Four of us enjoyed a terrific St Emilion Bordeau wine during the evening, no starters, and mains of perfectly cooked Filet Steak, and the men had the Fish Pies. Our steaks were cooked rare, served hot, properly carmelized, thick, tender, and surrounded by pommes frites, with extra side of vegetables ordered to round out the meal. the men both loved the fish pies, an enormous serve with a huge slab of puff pastry baked onto the pie filling, which unfortunately, they said was not hot enough. if the chef thinks the filling will heat up sufficiently while the pastry bakes, he's wrong, sorry. But otherwise they loved it. A great tarte au citron rounded out the desserts, huge serve, tangy, deliciously tart, soft, with terrific pastry. Service was excellent all around.
Highly recommended. Quiet but full crowd, parking nearby.

Chez Olivier

Reviewed By Pointyhead_10 - Melbourne, Australia

To be honest, our experience really wasn't that great. Maybe better service would have helped, but even so the seafood main was given a 6 out of 10 ("all the elements were there, it looked right, but it just then wasn't anything that special"). Two of us had the share steak and it would have been delicious if it had been hot. Of the 5 of us, two mains arrived piping hot, but then we waited for rather a long time before the share steak and duck arrived. We had to send the French fries back because they were tepid ... lovely and brown, but not hot. When the new ones arrived they were pale and flabby, albeit hot, and the waiter didn't take away the cold ones. Anyway, we began on the steak and realised it was tepid too, and the sauces in the two little bowls had a skin on top. Just no point complaining: what are they going to do? Cook another one and we then eat when everyone else has finished? So we just ate it. That long wait between the first two mains arriving and the rest? I think our steak just sat in the kitchen getting cold. And this restaurant is noisy if other diners are noisy. Whilst I appreciate a restaurant can't manage this, the party of four men behind me were so loud, esp one who laughed so loudly that we'd stop talking until he'd finished guffawing. Out of our party of five, four said they wouldn't go back. I said I'd go back if I just wanted a good steak and a bottle of red, and I was soundly mocked. The place wasn't full, but it was certainly busy, so I doubt they will miss our custom. But Chez Oliver just isn't for us.

Very good, well established Italian restaurant opposite the Rivoli cinema. Wonderful art deco décor. Somewhat limited menu (a good thing) plus specials. Well-priced, very good home cooking along with straightforward service. The special of the day, pan-fried snapper, was delicious. Recommended for very good food and service.

I thought overall it was a nice experience-reasonably good atmosphere for couples and smaller groups. The service was attentive.
I would describe the menu as a mixture of traditional Italian dishes with dishes that aimed to introduce a bit of a modern Australian twist. Both entrees we ordered were seafood. I found the scallops a bit overcooked. This was a shame as they suppose to be the star of the dish. The second entree dish was sashimi-like swordfish carpaccio. That entree was much more enjoyable & technically better executed.
For the first main, we ordered a pasta (rabbit) that was typically a Northern Italian dish. The pasta was cooked perfectly. It had the traditional taste & presentation. The second main was the duck cooked in a traditional Italian way. The simple presentation reminded of a home cooking. The taste of the duck and the souse were great, but as a whole, the dish was lacking in presentation. A half duck floating in a dark colored liquid? Would look good in a trattoria ... so is it? Judging by the prices it’s not!
The desert (the peach) on the other hand - had a great presentation, but failed to impress with its the combination of flavours. Too much was going on on the plate and some of the elements didn’t make much sense. I think that some of the traditional Italian Deserts would match the Grand’s menu much better.
An extensive wine list including good international wines but ONLY if you buy by bottle. However, very little choice - if ordered by glass.
Overall, good but not great. Definitely overpriced for what it is and not a good value for money.

Definitely the real deal. A great place. Exceptional breakfast. Lovely modern space. Great staff. Little else needed. I asked if the beans were large enough having had a few thimble sized ones around town that left me hungry. I received an appropriate assurance that the serve here is “huge”. This was accurate. The serve here is ample and it’s a very moorish dish. My request to change sough dough to seeded bread (remember that Harvard study) and add bacon for a few dollars was easily negotiated. (I’d ask the Il Melagrano people to take very close note at this point. You get one miserly slice of bacon for $5 there, but a very generous five smoky slices here for the same price. This is how it’s done). My companion loved his avo smash too. It looked enormously fetching. We even rebelled in the glorious retroness of a Minchinbury sparkling which tasted rather good to our surprise. We loved it here. This is a very classy and well run place that richly deserves its high rating.
