La Comedie

This restaurant changed hands a couple of years ago. Previously it was patronised by the great and the good of the town and had a reputation for fine dining in a rather stuffy atmosphere.
The new owners have maintained their regular clients. Lunchtime seemed to be mostly business trade but the whole style is more relaxed and the chairs are more comfortable. Service was excellent, just the right pace for a leisurely lunch with the feeling that they could have speeded up if you needed too.
The prix fixe choice is limited and we went for the 30 euros menu. Carpaccio of trout was fresh, copious and well presented. My duck was very pink, just as I like it,although the jus de griottine and balsamic sauce did not have the depth I was expecting. My friend's sturgeon was tasty with a light hollandaise style sauce.
Desserts were great.
My only niggle would be the loaded price for house aperos and the rather limited choice of half bottles on thewine list.

We found decent eating places a little difficult to find in Lons le Saunier, so were happy to come across this place which seemed to be smart and inviting.
Our welcome and the subsequent service was never really friendly although you could not really complain - it just wasn't quite there.
The best thing about the food was the amuse-bouche. The rest was forgettable - very greasy terrine, very dry chicken. The presentation of the desserts was fun and different with varied things being offered in strange containers like Bonne Maman jam jars etc. I enjoyed a substantial helping of fresh strawberries.
As I said, not really a place to complain about, but not muct to enthuse about either.

We had the Menu at 24€ which was acceptable but not inspired. But the decor was old-fashioned and the atmosphere was cold and not very welcoming. We were the only people in the restaurant and it was a public holiday in May which may have accounted for the lack of customers. But the experience did not make us want to return.

Every time we travel the long road to the French Riviera, we break the trip halfway and stop in Lons Le Saunier where we love eating at this family owned restaurant next to the Etap hotel which has reasonable rates (45€). The owners and chefs, Nicolas and his wife Veronique, are very pleasant and his staff are very welcoming and explain the special of the days in English if you don't understand French. The 3 course menus start @ 19€ or 25€ for dinner and lunch is less.
The presentation of the dishes is worthy of Michelin rated restaurants and the taste is memorable;
After many visits here, I can assure you that you wont be disappointed.

At 1.PM the beautiful dining-room was full.
Had to wait 10 mn to be seated.
Quick welcome and service but OK.
The entrecote steak was thin but very good, served with tasty morel sauce, so were the fries.
Many salads were proposed and the desserts looked great but I hadn’t.
Good experience.

Centrally-located just off the main square down a sweet alleyway, this courtyard restaurant was a real find as we'd been coming to Lons for the last ten years but had failed to do proper research on where to eat. Thanks to Trip Advisor, we've just enjoyed a GREAT meal and can't wait to return next year.We each ordered a main dish and a dessert. A croustillon de cabillard, a fish freshly-caught from the sea. The croustillon was three pieces of fish en croute with a broccoli puree a fresh tomato emulsion. Many flavour dimensions, the fish fleshy and delicately-flavoured. I ate a wonderfu cooked to perfection piece ofl saignant filet de boeuf (Charolais) in a divine mustard sauce with pomme de terre galettes stuffed with peas, lardons and morteau (a local Franche-Comte' sausage. Avery good bottle of Julienas 2010, and then dessert... Creme brulee with a pear sorbet and lemon verbena, which was remarkable. My freshly-baked sable biscuit surrounded by delicately-poached mildly alcohol-infused apricot halves in a liqueur beneath a large cube of apricot sorbet topped with a pistachio Chantilly was one of the best desserts I've eaten anywhere, and worthy of three Michelin stars, Delightful, attentive but not too fussy service. €70 for two but including an expensive bottle of wine represents great value. Very friendly, enthusiastic proprietor. Delightful.

Leonz' Cafe

This lively and well-patronised cafe in the pedestrian part of town just along from the tourist office makes a great venue for a night out. There is live music on Thursday and Friday nights and there is a poster inviting up and coming musicians/bands who would like a space to come along and play. We were pleasantly surprised to find such an electric and ecclectic place on a cold December day in the small town of Lons. Casual and with a good mix of people from various parts of the world and of all ages the atmosphere was one of conviviality. Whether there to have a drink or a meal, listen to music, play a game of chess or Scrabble you are made to feel welcome by the young hosts, Caroline and Lionel (whose tartines are delicious). We were lucky enough to visit on the night of a vernissage for a local artist, Ludivine Moogli and the place was packed to bursting.

We came across the restaurant by chance, since it was one of the few open on a public holiday. Excellent locally-based cuisine, with very generous portion sizes, leaving no room for dessert! Very good value at around 15-19€ for the main course. Friendly atmosphere with very good service. We went back two days later and it was equally good.

Le Saigon

Reviewed By Eva-Quirinius - Paradise

We went to Le Saigon, and had this:
Spring rolls: quite good, but a bit more herbs would have been nice
Banh Xeo (Vietnamese filled pancake): the pancake itself was a bit small, and the ingredients seemed to have baked together with the pancake. Strange
Vietnamese salad: good!
Bun Rieu (soup): good substance, but more herbs please.
Frog legs: tasted and looked like a stew (which we have never seen in Vietnam), with some ginger
So ... a mixed experience. We were not very impressed.
