What I hate about this place is the bar. Whatever cozy lunch or dinner you try to have, your conversation will be disturbed by the loud opinions and latest jokes at the bar. Groups of middle-aged and middle-management men. The scenery throws you back twenty years in time. A real time machine.
What I also hate is the cupboard near the kitchen entrance, with the cutlery, napkins, menus, etc... Would be better in a mid-class roadside café in the Spanish countryside. These two aspects kill the coziness of the place in my view. The service is hesitant but efficient. We did not feel completely welcome. So many other clients to serve, you know ...
On the positive side: excellent price/quality ratio, good (but expensive!) wines, good food (salmon teriyaki!), ample parking possibilities, good location at motorway entrance ...

Traditionally I visit this restaurant for lunch on the Dutch Koningsdag. It is the living proof that location is not important when the service and quality offered is outstanding. A small farmhouse in the middle of the fields, nothing fancy, simple mostly white interior. Nothing takes the attention away from what comes on the plate and that remains outstanding. The "large" menu is not cheap (325) but is just great. Beautifully presented, mostly seafood with Anjou pigeon as the meat course. What is striking is that over time the cooking by Goosens has become much simpler with even better ingredients that sing without having to add complexity. This is a major accomplishment. Service impeccable. Outstanding winelist fairly priced. Still lunch for 3 without exaggerating on the wine 1,600 euro. Not for everyday. Until next year .

Today I had the pleasure to discover a new adress.
I go regularly to restaurants with customers and friends. Belgium enjoys many execllent adresses but to be honest not frequently you get the unique chance to be impressed.
But today at Berto, it was really the case. Everything was "picco bello".
Decor, colours, starters, main dishes, wine choice, ... but also the presentation, combination of colours, a real pleasure for your eyes and palate! And we order the business lunch!
Maybe one tip, prices of water and coffee are in my view totally unreasonable. Do not abuse it.
To conclude, a memorable lunch! My compliments to the whole team.

Invited a friend and business partner over for a business lunch. The moment we were served they announced there was no fresh fish and some other items on the menu were not available. Waitress was a bit pushy and trying to force us to get the 'business lunch' instead of eating a la carte.
Luckily the food we could get was excellent. The restaurant has large size tables so there is plenty of room to put a laptop or tablet when discussing business over lunch. This is a plus.

This review is not based on one visit. We have been to this restaurant many times and each time we had a wonderful time. The Chef and his wife are wonderful people, working very hard, which results in a great eating experience. The cuisine is French with classical undertone, but brought in a modern and creative way. Compared with other restaurants, this one is incredibly consistent. During summer you can enjoy the Terrace at the back of the restaurant. They are located in a very small village, a heaven of peace and at the borders of the beautiful Flemish Ardennes. I strongly recommend this one star Michelin, working with very reasonable prices, compared to the quality you get.

We decided to try this restaurant based on previous reviews on Tripadvisor. Nice location and façade, warm welcome and friendly service. But the interior decoration looks disorganized and sloppy. What is this pile of newspapers doing in the middle of a room that pretends to belong to the better dining establishments in the city? The price/quality ratio is more than acceptable. But the beef tagliata (compare that with Bleu Blanc!) and the tagliatelle with scampi and green asparagus (I can cook this at home) did not completely convince us. Nor did the house wine.

I think all the superlatives have already been expended by reviewers before us. Living in London, we have the privilege of access to diverse and outstanding cuisine from all around the world. But London could never create anything close to this jewel of a restaurant. Beg, borrow, steal - do what it takes to get a reservation. This restaurant should be on every person's bucket list

As the title says. Nothing luxury. A nice "kaffee" feeling where you feel at home. The food is good and goes back to standard dishes. Can be pretty crowdy (and noisy) during peak hours.

Stopped by at 'De Zwaan' last Wednesday. Had the daily dish, shrimp croquette ( home made ) as a starter, and then pork with winter vegetables. All prepared with great care, and incredible value for money. Excellent place for a casual lunch on a weekday when in the area of Kruishoutem. Plan to return for dinner, to sample the full menu.
