It is situated inside a UNESCO-declared biosphere about 90 km east of Cape Town between Betty's Bay and Hermanus. The town's name, meaning "small mouth" in Afrikaans, refers to its location at the mouth of the Bot River lagoon. Tourism plays a large role in the town's economy due to its popularity with holiday makers from across the Western Cape and Cape Town in particular.

Had their Sunday buffet and there was a good selection of dishes, all of the 'home cooked' variety. Unfortunately I had been told there would be fish dishes available, and that vegans and vegetarians are catered for - but none were forthcoming, Also, even the soup contained meat stock, so my vegan companion could not eat any of the soup. We had to make do with the salad and vegetable dishes - adequate but not particularly creative or special. Reasonably priced, but definitely not fine dining. However, our waitress was attentive and did her utmost to please.
Previous experiences at the Art Cafe were only for coffee and cakes, which were nice and the service was good.

Visit early on Wednesday morning and was surprised how busy the Stoep Café was. We ordered Latte’s, the Bread Platter to share and Scones with Cream and Jam! Coffee fresh, assortment of breads, spreads and pate great. The freshly baked scone light and fluffy and with the cream and jam a knock out! What a wat to start the day! Well done to the owner and staff!!!

The staff was absolutely rude to us, standing right behind our back like if we wanted to steal something and the selection of lame pastry was just hilarious and offer of mini not good looking meat pies must had been a joke really!

Cup'a Cafe, or Johns as some of the locals call it, is a cafe in which you can have lunches, coffee, tea, cakes, and scones. John and Andre are always welcoming, and serve a decent 'brew' - try the cappuccino.
Sunday lunch is a set three course meal, and is always popular (need to book), and very well priced. You are able to sit inside or outside, overlooking the protected wetland, and is a pleasant and relaxing experience.

Generous portions of wholesome food. The best sushi in the Cape. Beautiful views across Sandown Bay. Our waitress was friendly and helpful as always. We can Recommend the calamari ribs burgers and schnitzel. A casual atmosphere and well priced.

My husband and I craved sushi Sunday afternoon, we were a bit late, arrived just after 4pm, the kitchen just closed. We weren't upset, just accept it and as we turned around were called back by Petro and Alida, 2 waitresses that said that they are going to make a plan for us! We were delighted and enjoyed the most delicious sushi (that Petro made herself) and their service was fantastic, even though it was near closing time for them! A must visit for anyone passing through

We always visit here whilst on holiday in the area. The bistro is hidden in a courtyard through The Potter’s Gallery. Such a lovely visit, browsing through the pottery pieces, little nursery and ending with breakfast and a good coffee! Must visit to take your friends to.

This place has a new owner and already there are some improvements. It seems cleaner and more organised but he will need to do some serious work on the toilets before I can rate his establishment as very good. I regularly support him and especially enjoy the pizzas. I can also confirm that the ribs are very good and his chips are still old style and delicious. Recently I ordered pizzas on takeaway. All good, didn't wait too long and as usual the pizzas were delicious, even the vegetarian one, which in other places can leave a lot to be desired. What did however, upset me, is that as I took a medium pizza (the other being a large), I was charged a R3 takeaway fee. I object to this quite strongly! Surely, you the restaurant has already factored into the price of their pizza all the overheads! In fact, if I had sat down in the restaurant, they would have had to serve me, clean up after me and carry the costs of me using their restrooms - instead they charge me to give them business! I find that outrageous and distasteful! It's not about the money but the principal that galls me and so hence an average rating which would have in fact been a very good rating.

This establishment lends to rustic style of décor, however the pizzas are full of flavour. Staff are friendly and very accommodating. Even though we were the only people there on a Sunday evening, their pleasant attitude was warming. Their burgers look very appetising.
