OMG What a place to find....on a recent trip further up the coast we decided to stop at Lou's cafe for an early lunch after hearing Ray Hadley advertise it many many times. Perfection would not be a strong enough word to describe this cafe....MoreOMG what an amazing review,thank you so much for taking the time to compliment us. The Lantern Inn Restaurant is located in the reception area of the Kempsey Powerhouse Motel. It is very comfortable and spacious. A warm welcome is offered to all motel guests and those folk from the town that wish to enjoy quality, generous portions of Australian food. Chef regularly puts on specials additional to the standing menu. All our meals are family affordable and we welcome children of all ages. Special occasions can be catered for by simply calling Tracy or Martin to discuss your special evening. We specialize in buffet style for larger groups. There is a dance floor in the middle of the dining room which can be lit up if required and a fully licenced bar as well. The fireplace adds that homely feel in the cold months and during summer there is air-conditioning. There is plenty of parking and also wheelchair access if required.

Fantastic meal, lovely fresh veggies and well cooked meat - just what the dr ordered after a day travelling. Nothing was too much trouble.

If hunger strikes when you are in downtown Kempsey (Elbow Street or Smith Street), then Tumblegum Bakery can offer a healthy Sandwich or wrap. I've just waded through a warm chicken schnitzel and salad wrap and I'm feeling very satisfied.
Great value and made while you wait.

What a super breakfast we had here. Coffees were excellent. For meals we selected the bacon and egg roll on Turkish bread and the Mediterranean omelette.
Serving sizes were enormous! Always better than a smaller than expected serve.
We were delighted by the friendly service and presentation and taste of our meals. Thank you.

Worst Indian I have ever eaten!!! We regularly eat here, however after tonight's experience I won't ever spend another cent here. The food was completely unpalatable literally 3 pieces of meat and nann that were burnt when called to let them know what had happened staff were rude and dismissive no compensation or actual apology! Actually I'm pretty sure they hung up on me Disappointed in not only the dish but the businesses response. Whatever's gone wrong down there has lost you a regular customer.

Cruising into Kempsey you are confronted with the usual suspects - chain brand outlets everywhere, drive-through etc.
But wait, what was that we saw on the left "salads"...
We park the car about 500 metres down the road and walk back. It looks 'interesting' so we venture in. The freshest foods are presented in their glass showcase, quiches seem to be the speciality. We enjoy our lunch -'wow' that was good!
Certainly worth looking out for if fresh, unprocessed food is on your radar!

We ordered takeaway from this restaurant.
I ordered chicken satay. I believe this was reheated in a microwave because i heard the ding of the microwave and the satays were white with no flavour or colour.
I also ordered the green curry. This was made with water and paste.... no coconut milk at all.
My wifes meals were the same too. Will not be going to this restaurant again when passing thru.
Staff were friendly though!

Travelling from Sydney to Coffs, We were due for some lunch & a quick stop. I used trip advisor for a recommendation in Kempsey.
This is where I found the South Kempsey Corner Store.
Although there is not a "massive" selection of menu items, There is adequate variety.
They were also accommodating in making a ham & cheese toastie for my 5 yr old which was not part of the menu.
The food was tasty, the place is clean & the staff pleasant.
I would definitely recommend & visit again if in town.
