El Paraiso

We stumbled across this but it was an absolute delight. Husband and wife team and their passion for food and service shone through. We all had the tapas as it seemed an easier option, but so glad we did as many interesting and thoroughly enjoyable flavours and presentation was up to Masterchef standard! The husband was a very friendly and enthusiastic front of house, a real Spanish gentleman, and you could tell that his wife was passionate about her cooking. There is a great photo of them both displayed which I assume is their wedding. You could tell that the other diners were Spanish so if the locals eat there, then it must be good! This is a real
gem, hidden away from the crowds and we are so pleased to have found it.

Excellent Paella Restaurant not far from Javea in Alicante

Reviewed By Steve T - Lytham St Anne's, United Kingdom

Stopped here after a walk in the beautiful hills just around the corner from this beautiful yet perfectly formed small town.
A typically Spanish bar/restaurant in a typically characterful Spanish small town.
We had the menu del día for circa E12 comprising three courses of typically Spanish food – large offerings of quality home cooked food.
Drinks were at an average price but we got a house red at E4 per bottle and it was a young rioja.
Parking – If there isn’t enough space in the small square adjacent to this bar/restaurant then do try the side of the Barranca just down the way near the street lit stretch which is only circa 100m away from the bar itself – on foot ! Lots of space.

Restaurant Pepe

We were aware that the founder (Un-surprisingly Pepe!) had retired and had heard several comments that it wasn’t as good so visited this week with slight apprehension.
We needn’t have it was every bit as good and even on a cold, damp winters day with the clouds covering the mountain toos it was as good as ever!
To see a restaurant this busy in mid winter is testimony to its ongoing popularity!
My wife’s pork dish and my mousaka were both excellent!

A lovely typically Spanish restaurant. Only small, but very intimate with tables in little nooks and crannies The owners are very attentive and speak a little English. The menus are written in several languages too. The food is always cooked freshly and we have always had perfectly cooked measl.that are beautifully presented. Highly recommended.

The food here is based on a tapas menu and was pretty good. Unfortunately it is let down by indifferent service (the barman was good) by the waiting staff. A smile would help and informing us that one of our courses would take a lot longer than the others would have raised the rating.

Bar Cafe' Ole!

Reviewed By Judith_TripTips - Brighton, United Kingdom

I'll keep it simple.
We were on our back to the airport to go home and just needed a quick lunch.
We thought cafe over bar, and on that strip of restaurants, wineries and bodegas as you drive around Jalon rather than through it, we just picked one that didn't have "English Breakfast" written in the front window, or the big bodega that says "Flamenco dancing dinner" on a blackboard outside. Tourist places are just not for us.
I didn't want bread so I asked for frittata with chorizo, i.e. the filling without the bread. I was told the chorizo was thinly sliced. OK? Fair do. I'll try it. Look, I know what chorizo is. And that's not chorizo. It was like the Polish or German sausage you can buy in Lidl.
And the burger that my partner wanted? It really wasn't pleasant. He left the chips which is really all he'd fancied! Old oil, he suspected.
We made a wrong move walking through this door. No offence, they were very nice people but just not our cup of tea in any shape or form. And for over 10 euros when we'd had beautiful tapas with glasses of wine at 8 euros between us, it seemed over-priced considering.
And as we turned right at the end of the road we noticed a small bodega type bar and kicked ourselves that we hadn't explored another 2 minutes round the corner.
Our mistake.

Good staff with excellent coverage obviously on Spanish, but also English. The menus del dia cost are based on the main course with a good selection of starters as well and includes bread and alioli and a glass of wine or beer etc. We went as a group of 4 and all of us chose fish as a main course , hake/ salmon / sole, and all of us were very pleased with what we had. The highest cost was €22 for the sole menu , 2 of us chose that and the total bill came to just over €100 for the 4 of us having had 2 bottles of wine, a couple of beers and water, and coffees after our Deserts. So very pleased with the service, the quality of the food and will be going again.

Casa Susi

Reviewed By recordhater - Blackburn

Went with friends to this restaurant. Our first visit for many years. The setting on a sunny day could not be bettered with great views from the Terrace. All starters and the small tapas appetiser were very good. The bread and alioli were delicious. For our mains 4 chose the slow roasted lamb, one the ossobucco, and one the salmon. Two out of the four lambs were perfect with meat dropping off the bone. However two were over cooked and quite dry which was disappointing. All Deserts were good. The local wine is drinkable and was free flowing. Susi the owner is always smiling and she and her staff are most welcoming.
So disappointed that it just failed on the lamb but won’t hesitate to go back again soon.
