Not far from of the main plaza in the beautiful town of Izamal, Yucatán, is the magical Kinich restaurant. We visited on a busy Sunday but the food and ambience were well worth the wait. Izamal isn't a big tourist destination so the local crowd was an early indication of something special. My wife had an amazing Pollo Pebil and I had the good but not amazing Poc Chuc. The homemade tortillas and coconut ice cream dessert was delicious. See the photos to get a sense of the ambience--this place is really delightful.

Maybe we came on an off night? I am not sure. When we walked in, we were the only customers, and it felt as though we walked in on a private college kid party. The server quickly turned down the tv and straightened up. He was friendly and helpful, but no one's meal was good. In fact, I took a bite of my son's queso relleno and had a slight gag reflex. My margarita tasted like a wine cooler mixed with Squirt.
All 4 of us had different items, and no one finished any of them. Not because we were not hungry, but because none were good.

Ran into this place by accident but we decided to give it a try. We tried some of the local cuisine and my wife and I really loved our meal. We tried a little bit of everything but everything we tried, we liked. Give this place a shot if you're ever in this part of Mexico, you won't be disappointed. Job well done.

Izamal is lived and vibrates in a magical journey through time, by the Yucatan Maya Colonial Yucatan and the Yucatan Current. And there is a place to eat food rich with 100% regional colonial city in the "Los Arcos"

We've been to Izamal three times, so have tried all the restaurants in town, and this is, by far, our favorite. It is appropriately called "cafe": it is informal and you can order as little or as much as you want and sit at your table for as long as you want. We saw lots of locals here, either getting Takeout or sitting for hours over a cup of coffee. There are two pleasant indoor dining rooms plus five tables on the sidewalk. The kitchen and bar are both skillfully staffed. We enjoyed creative juices, great margaritas (frozen or not) and amazing frappes (try the orleo one!); there is also a full range of other drinks. We tend to like lots of small dishes rather than a full meal, and Los Arcos is great for this. Favorites this trip were amazing sopa de lima, carne asada tortillas and pavo panuchos; all really excellent. All dishes and drinks must be individually made because there was always a bit of a wait after ordering (that's a *good* thing!). Finally, prices seemed geared to locals rather than tourists, and are low.

Our first meal in Izamal did not disappoint in this spotless el centro spot. We disappointed our meal, though, by not being able to finish the combo plate and Yucatecan style pork chops. Giant servings. We should have shared the combo. The grilled chorizo stuffed into HOT hecho a mano tortillas would have been enough. Or you could pop in and just have the tortilla soup. Good salsas, and not as piquant as the waitress warns. Right on the zocalo.

I had heard about this place for a while, and finally had the chance to go. The food was very good, traditional yucatecan cooking and hand made tortillas, what’s not to like? The service was attentive and quick despite the place being full. It is definitely somewhere I’ll go back to enjoy a great meal.

Riquisimas hamburguesas terracita y cocteles sin alcohol cool. Nada mejor q una pantera rosa con quesadillas de pastor o un mojito de fresa con unos nachos mixtos. O un beso de luna como digestivo. Wuau todo super riquisimo.
No lo duden super recomendado limpieza amabilidad surtido y ambiente agradable algo de lo mejor en la terracita de Izamal y se me olvidaba para este calor nada mejor que un frappe de nutella o de oreo.

The Japanese curry was good!
But we were really disappointed from the three different sushis! To much rise and the wasabi was tasteless without any fire!
The dessert not worthwhile to try, anyway it's really cheap food and the other dishes could be as good as the curry..or even better how knows, good luck trying!

This is a new place and we were the only ones there. They brought us some free appetizers. My wife ordered the Poc Chuc and said it was tremendous. I had the Chili Rellenos and it was probably the best I have ever had. The service was great, very professional yet personable. He spoke very good English and described how Yucatan dishes were made. The ambiance was upscale but the prices were very reasonable. It is a bit away from the town center, near the old train station. Well worth the drive. Only open from noon till 8 pm.
