Although it's only a 30-minute ferry crossing away from mainland Chile across the Chacao Channel, verdant Isla Chiloe – the largest in the Chiloe archipelago – is another world. The most memorable thing about Sacho was the time it took. It took a long time to get our food and it took almost as long to pay the bill. The food itself was average. My wife had Congrio (Conger Eel) and said it was tough. As a vegetarian, I had a large plate of vegetables which I flavored with chili sauce. There were only two other tables occupied. At one, there were two children who continually ran around shouting. Neither their parents nor the staff made any attempt to quiet them.

Terrific food, great service, superb views and atmosphere, eclectic wine selection -- and on stilts! This tiny 10-table restaurant in a palafito overlooking Fiordo de Castro (or mud, depending on the tides) is a gem. A limited menu of mostly great local seafood, but ask for specials which aren't listed. Wines by the glass vary but are all special. The honey and yogurt desert is amazing -- the honey comes to the table IN the wooden beehive frame! WARNING: Cash Only!

This little well priced restaurant is near the pier in Castro. It only holds about 20 people but the food was fresh and generous and the service quite good. Some of the staff speak English and there is an English menu. Great oystersThanks for your kind comment. There are not enough superlatives to adequately describe the greatness of the food at this restaurant. It is a remarkably simple little place toward the end of the world in Chile. The food is out of the world. Brilliant choice of ingredients, unusual combinations and perfect presentation. Literally the best meal I have ever had. Go here if you are on the island. You will fall in love with the food. The service is a great match. English menu if you wish. Brilliant.

I stopped here for a Sandwich but they don't have any, strange for a Chilean restaurant, but decided to go with it, and can't regret it!
The menu is really simple, some beef options, chicken, Chilean style pork one pasta option and a Pot Luck option.
Since I didn't dare to go for pot luck, I ordered some chicken but it took me a while to convince the waitress to add some mustard sauce to it. This with some traditional spicy mashed potaotes.
In just a few minutes a decent size plate, big but not that big, arrived with my food, and it was good, it tasted just like as if I had cooked at home. The mashed potatoes were tasty, the chicken well cooked and soft, and the sauce perfect! A great mix.
The restaurant is simple, not fancy at all, but once again it makes you feel as at home.
I will return and I would recomend it.

This really felt like authentic Chiloe Island fare. This off-the-beaten path haunt of locals and backpackers serves up authentic empanadas, papa rellenos, and soups (lamb, beef, chicken). It is very inexpensive. The helpful staff and locals guided us in our selections. I particular enjoyed circling the various food stalls in search of the most appetizing food--all the while enjoying watching the cooks at work.
Note: Have Chilean pesos on hand since not all vendors accept USD or credit cards.

Thursday nights are quiet during the dark and cold Chilote winter, so finding something good, open or crowded ain't easy. I had seen Almud "bar" before and didn't enter, yesterday we did, and it was good.
I had something simple, just some freshly made pineapple juice and some great pizza. The surprise? Good and friendly service and great food. Instead of one big pizza I got four small ones, full of flavour, different types of chillies, chilli preserve, cheese and avocado! So good.
I'm really looking forward to the massive piscolas they offer and I AM going back for some more pizza!!!
Why did I put "bar", becaise it is a restaurant and by law you have to be eating something warm if drinking, and cops are quite strict about it!!

We enjoyed late lunch at this cozy place. No English but the waitress was very friendly and managed to clarify and assist us through the menu.
The food varied in quality. The seafood stew and seafood soup were excellent. White fish with purée and salad were not anywhere creative or special.
They were extremely nice and accommodating. We were left without cash and since they do not take credit cards or US dollars they let us go and asked us to pay the following day. We left very appreciative.
