Nostalgia

Reviewed By Samuel P

We have visit the restaurant today June 4th with 3 friends. We all ordered different food and none of us was content. I had gnocchi which I expected to be made of potatoes but they looked like some pasta clumps. One of my friends had spaghetti carbonara and - they really didn't taste authentically (no Parmesan and no egg). Lasagna didn't taste right, the meat tasted weird. At least my friend who ate a broccoli soup was okay with it. The beer which they offer was good. Unfortunately it's not made there, but in the Czech Republic. Not to be so sceptic, the atmosphere wasn't bad.

They cook very good here. The restaurant offers traditional Slovak food. Also interiors are very traditional. The staff were friendly and used to have loud kids there. We enjoyed or food and stay there.

Marco Restaurant

Unpretentious bright and attractive basement restaurant with outside summer Terrace. Serves well prepared Slovak food with generous fresh vegetable garnishes. Some unusual dishes. Friendly service and good value. Have eaten there four times and enjoyed every meal greatly. Worth searching out.

I had the pleasure of dinning here a couple of times and I must disagree with other reviewers.
This place is GREAT!
The menu was well thought out with a limited amount of appetizers, salads, soups and main courses.
I find particularly well prepared and delicious the escargot (snails) in
a herb butter sauce sprinkled with Parmesan cheese and also the prawns.
Salads were fresh, crispy and large and in different styles.
Entrees arrived well presented, hot and laddered in scrumptious sauces with either roasted vegetables or traditional dumplings.I liked as well the venison medallions in a dark tasty and very subtle sauce and also the venison medallions or the fresh salmon prepared to perfection.
My desserts were freshly made very thin sweet pancakes filled with ice cream and whipped cream and an assortment of berries in a tasty sweet syrup with brandy.
Our waitress was very helpful suggesting the best dishes, bringing whatever we needed promptly to our table and stayed serving us even after the kitchen was closed.
We moved our group to the entrance foyer bar and cafe area where again the same young lady was our server.
Beer was very cold, champagne properly chilled, coffee hot and delicious and smoothies perfectly done.
I will dine here as often as possible in my next visit to Poprad and the amazing Tatra Mountains.

Penzion Fortuna

Unfortunately, quite disappointing, had high expectations...
The single-room is quite small and not so comfortable.
The shower is the smallest I have ever seen in any hotel around the world !
The bed was comfortable, but over-all, the room price was overcharged, compare with other nicer rooms around the same town.
There was no soap in the shower, glad I usually have with me some, from home.
The restaurant was even a bigger disappointment !
Ordered a tuna and avocado Carpaccio : It had no avocado in there at all !! no balance at all.
Ordered a salad : again, no balance at all, quite tasteless, huge amount of greens, almost no dressing.
Ordered baby-leaf with Atlantic salt : what came was Atlantic salt with baby-leaf...
The main dish was fine, 8 out of 10

Sottopassaggio

Reviewed By Keith P - London, United Kingdom

We were introduced to Sotto by a Slovak friend who suggested we could do better than the usual restaurants we'd frequented for the past 9 years... good heavens, was he right!
To me, pretty much everything about this place is great: the unprepossessing approach belies the super Italian/Italianate restaurant therein. We have been here four times over the last couple of months and each time the experience has been great.
A couple of nights ago we took friends from London who were bowled over by the atmosphere, friendly service and great food.
We struggled to agree on a wine so were invited to scale the dodgy stairs down to the cellar and picked one for ourselves with advice from the charming waiter. This was a real treat - as was the wine - and it set the evening off on a great footing.
The food was good too! Although the menu changes regularly, look out for the home-made pasta with clams as a starter. I then had lamb cutlets - pretty much a rarity in this part of Slovakia - which were cooked beautifully.
Having just dropped our friends back to the airport, we will be back soon for more of the same. Whatever they served with the fresh pasta, I will have it!
This is a lovely and unpretentious restaurant.

We were warmly welcomed by the proprietor for evening dinner despite having our 7yr old twins with us. He then gave us a talk to explain that the place was expensive (It wasn't)and didn't serve a tourist menu but a set "tasting menu" and he seemed to expect us to walk out but we didn't.
Each course came with an explanation and the courses we ordered were interspersed with little "compliments from the chef"
The food was all delicious and lived up to the description.
With so much effort spent on the food we reckoned that we could trust the house wine to be appropriate and well chosen which it was.
It was a really lovely unexpected delightful evening.
Thank you to our host for your hospitality and care.

Nothing fancy, but tasty good local food for very reasonable prices. The location in a tower which was part of the city's fortification is charming. The view of the moat and road less so. The Terrace with a small playground for kids is the perfect spot for a quick lunch when the weather is good. The indoor part is also quite cosy.
The food was great. We had a pork schnitzel, lamb goulash and a local specialty pirogy with brynza cheese.
The service was friendly and fast. All in all, solid food and service for very reasonable prices - 100% recommend.

Was there 10.30 am with a friend and her children. We stopped there because kids were attracted to a little house outside for play. After sitting down it took good 15 minutes to get attention. We were 5 of us and ordered 4 drinks. One of them was raspberry lemonade -home made -big jar.Waitress was surprised why we do not take one more drinks. But question how many glasses we need for lemonade never came.....Kids were playing,we were talking. Lady never came back to ask if we need something else. Had to call her after 1.5 hour when needed to pay and leave. We would also eat there something..but attention was zero so decided to change the place. Is a pity to have such a great location and offer that little!!! Maybe two ladies with a kids do not look like have money to spend. But we both living outside the Slovakia and come here to enjoy. And good thing is - we have choices. And is not going to be Cafe Razy anymore....
