La Broche

Reviewed By SuzanneVR21 - Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

We decided to do a little city trip to Dinant (with hindsight I would not recommend this to anyone) and we got caught in the rain. We walked into La Broche without having looked at the menu (big mistake) and and first we thought it was all rather pricy (as we weren't expecting to have a gourmet lunch), but thank God they also had a 3-course menu for 25 euros. We all opted for this menu and we were not disappointed. Good food, well executed and a very decent house wine for only 20 euros. Also a nice little amuse-bouche to start with. The restaurant suffers a bit from an identity crisis in terms of looks and the cutlery and China. This is of course my personal opinion but the so-called modern decor looked already outdated and our food was served on an array of different plates and vessels (a jam jar containing melon soup as part of the amuse, next to a glass 'bowl in a bowl' with a salmon mousse). Also some slate on the table and an old fashioned plate used as a wine coaster. Of course, the most important things were right, and that was the food. The curry-mussel soup as lovely as well as the steak with home-made fries. If you have 25 euros to spend for a 3-course lunch I would certainly recommend La Broche. Service was very pleasant and efficient.

Excellent food and service! We had four cheese lasagna and carpaccio - both were excellent. The crème brulee for desert was twice as large as we expected and was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We were also served complimentary appetizers and after dinner digestifs (amaretto). When you consider all the extra's and the quality of the food, $18 per entrée was very reasonable. Great wine list as well. Dinant is a charming little town with very friendly people and welcoming atmosphere. We would visit again and again!

At the restaurant, ?Du Four à la Table?, you can enjoy authentic and delicious dishes which reflect the region?s specialities and have been prepared in a simple, but refined, way. The restaurant is non-smoking and offers a separate room for family celebrations or seminar dinners. In the sitting room, with its plush armchairs and an open fire, you can enjoy a local beer. The restaurant affords a magnificent view of the garden, the Terrace and the princely castle of Villers-sur-Lesse. During our stay in the identically named hotel, we had dinner in this lovely family owned restaurant. The meal we got served was outstanding: the best traditional ingredients, combined and served in a surprising, unique and very tasteful way. Service was excellent. Great atmosphere in the restaurant also, surely inviting to return when we have a chance.

We went there yesterday evening.
After Reading all the positive reviews (and been to the no2 restaurant of Dinant the day before) we had high expectations.
Suffice to say we were disappointed. Disappointed enough to take the trouble to write a review to warn others not to go there.
For starters, we had to ask for new drinks every time our glasses were empty for a minute or 10. Next to that when the food finally arrived, the plate was only filled with three tiny pieces of small sole fish, 3 potatoes (tiny) and a small cup with saled trenched in mayonaise.
The fish was lukewarm and when I tried to get the meat off, it appeared to be dry. It was either old or overcooked. The potatoes (all 3 of them) were nice though. The salad not so much.
When my wife asked one of the waitresses for a glass of red wine, she was kindly asked to ask again at another waitress who succinctly disappeared for another 10 minutes.
When we asked for the bill and still left them a tip (on my wife's behalf, I would not have bothered) we had to wait for our coats. When I asked for them the waitress pointed to a closet in which all the guests coats where stored and appeared to expect us to open it, look for them and fetch them ourselves. Note that we did not see where they put our coats when we arrived.
All in all very poor service, bad food and a missed opportunity for a good night out. We did have a nice evening at our cabin however as we had time enough to appreciate the sunset as not much time was spent in the restaurant (as I would advice others). Steer away and go to the nice Hoa Sen instead.

We spent a few nights at the Ferme des Belles Gourmandes and went to eat at the restaurant. It is quite simple and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Food is very good, simple dishes with a personal note made from first-class ingredients. On the first evening we took the menu and were not delighted. The second evening saw us eating 'à la carte' and we were not disappointed either. Needless to say that value for money was excellent.

Third time I have ate here and still good. A combination of weather and the Promenade being rebuilt meant we ate inside this time. Very comfortable and able to get a table without a reservation. Three of the four of use had various sorts of mussels and the other Chicken Provencal and we all enjoyed our meals a lot. Around €25 for the mussels and €22 for a bottle of Rose wine made it good value.

La Table d'Antonio

We were staying just along the road at the Ibis Hotel and this was a recommendation from Tripadvisor and the hotel receptionist. As it was raining we didn’t want to go too far afield so this restaurant filled the bill.
We ordered three courses from the carte but in effect had five courses as we were given three little amuse bouche and three little sweet tasters with glasses of digestif at the end of the meal.
Our salmon starters were excellent with a good balance of sweet/tart apple and oily salmon. My carré d’agneau was beautifully cooked and the meat was top quality. My husband’s rognon de veau dish was superb and we were both doubtful about ordering Deserts but the crème brulêes slipped down easily.

The service was attentive without being all over us and the owner was charming. This comes in towards the top of the list of ‘best meals we’ve had’. If we ever return to Dinant we will certainly return to La Table d’Antonio.

We did not have a good experience here, but we love Vietnamese food and eat it often, so we are probably quite discriminating. The hostess was a bit distracted and she made it clear she was displeased when we arrived early for our reservation due to the timing of our visit to The Citadel (the place was completely empty)- we didn't care about the tv and tried to ignore a staff receiving phone calls repeatedly, but the food was just so-so....nothing bad but nothing special...this town has many amazing French restaurants, so when in Dinant, we will stick with those-
