Coffee Bothy

This place is in the center of the little village of Golspie. The highway runs through Golspie, and there is a public parking lot just off the center, near the fish-and-chip place. At the side of the little parking-lot is this little wooden-tables café, which is obviously popular with the older locals. The place was full, but the service was quick. There are sandwiches and hot food, but we were just passing through, so we had the Victoria sponge cake, which was very good.

My wife and I were on holiday and decided to try this place. It was my wife's birthday and our last night of the holiday. Couldn't have picked a nicer place. What a gem. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Wine from practically any bottle could be ordered by the glass.
The food was lovely. The calamari in tempura was cooked to perfection as it wasn't in the least but chewy. The scallops, prawns and chorizo linguine was the best I've tasted and they certainly didn't skimp on the seafood as some places do. The staff were attentive without being over bearing.

We have been visiting Dornoch for golf and walking for the last 5 years and always make a point of going here. Margaret is a great hostess and the food is always reliable. Would recommend the haggis Benbraggie and the Chicken Glenmorangie. Will be back next year.

Stopped here on the way back from john o groats to Invergordon, so glad we did.
I had a kingrib supper with single black pudding and the chips where the best chippy chips I've had in a long time. Also the batter was fresh and crispy just the way I like it.
Kids had chicken nuggets and chips and they all scoffed it.
One had cheese pizza and no complaints.
Highly recommend this place, theirs also a restaurant next door, would definitely return

Very good food, tempered in heat to your preference, generous portions and the owner is in constant attendance. Great variety of choices as well.. Unusual to find such a good quality Asian Restaurant so far North. Service a little slow. Suits the pace of life in that part of the world. But, importantly, it is freshly cooked every time. Really nice relaxed evening with friends,

I'm in love with Brora and the fabulously friendly community here, plus this superb golf course! But you must come in for a meal at Braid's Bistro where Chef Richard produces amazing local cuisine such as meat pies and lobster Thermidorian, fresh fresh from the sea when available. Great chips, sticky toffee pudding and more!

The Sutherland Inn

As my heading describes, the young man who check us in was most courteous, he even offered to help carry our bags to our room.
Although the room and bathroom was in need of a make over, there was plenty of space and there was plenty of lighting, we had a room at the back which was great as we didn't have any road noise.
The bar was pleasant, and the guy behind the bar was also very charming, and new his trade.
We had a very nice meal in the restaurant my wife says her tagliatelle was superb, as was my duck breast, with a rather nice orange sauce , we were both very satisfied.
Breakfast was more than adequate. And freshly good, if one required a cooked breakfast.

Visited this restaurant as a non resident. Booked our table for 6.30 pm. When we arrived it was not clear where to park or where the restaurant actually was. We found it eventually but parked in the golf club car park rather than the restaurant car park. No problem and when we walked into reception no one asked our name but took us straight through to the lovely Seating area next to a roaring log fire, perfect. Lovely waiter extremely friendly and attentive and not to intrusive. Handed menus and all looked lovely approx three choices for each course but no price listed anywhere and no explanation as to how the menu worked what was or was not included. I only knew the cost from looking at trip advisor 58.00 per head which was fine but if you don’t use trip advisor you would have no idea of price and you should not have to ask. In any event we ordered wine and chose our menu choices. We the received two canapés each which were lovely but served in a huge pudding type bowl, way too big for the canapés not great presentation. We were then taken through to the restaurant. Lovely ambience and great large tables. We were offered home made warm rolls of different flavours and three choices of butter, all gorgeous. Starters of steak tartare and lobster bisque gorgeous. A mixed leaf salad followed and then main courses of venison which was great just perfect. We were offered still and sparkling water which were served from bottles and kept behind a small bar in the restaurant. Desserts not my favourite but well presented. We were then offered coffee again no explanation if included in set menu or not and we retired to the cosy Seating area we sat in initially. The coffee was average, nothing special and just as we finished some chocolates arrived, again served in a huge pudding bowl. It would have been better to serve the chocolates with the coffee not after. We were then unsure how to get our bill and eventually got some attention and requested our bill and also asked for the remainder of our wine as there was over half a bottle left as we had hardly touched it. The waitress did not seem keen to bring the wine but arrived quickly with the bill and card machine. I have to say we were shocked to be charged 8.00 for water as this was certainly not made clear on ordering. I must make it clear it is not the cost at all but transparency to customers is key and we should have been told that coffee, water not included but chocolates, canapés and salad intermediary was. Very confusing. Again we had to ask for our wine which was embarrassing and not what we expected. It took the shine off an otherwise fabulous night. Don’t expect customers to know what the score is a simple explanation would suffice. When I spend 170 pounds on a meal for two I expect impeccable service, food and overall experience which we did not get. The food however was great.
