The Blue Pig

On a recent road trip, we stumbled upon this little cafe. The line out front spoke to its appeal, so we hurried in for a divine summer treat. The ice cream is homemade with quality ingredients. While we were late for breakfast, the sandwich board posted in front sounded tempting and yummy, too.

So far I have tasted her peach pie, Fruit Crostata, Lemon sugar cookies, coconut sugar cookies, Brown Sugar Cinnamon scone, Buttermilk scone, Chocolate Chip scone, Cranberry-Cornmeal scone, Lemon, rice krispy square & Challah bread and have been happy with everything. As someone who bakes I find the prices to be fair for home baked goods. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Have had about 1000 cups of coffee there the past 4 years and most( not all ) of the staff is friendly and funny , the coffee hot and tasty with options to lighten other than dairy. The place is progressive and artsy with some great beverage options of green juices and delicious blends.

Croton Colonial Diner

Reviewed By Mme_X

Quick summary: very good home-made food. Wide menu. Courteous, friendly, professional service. Great prices. Greek specialty items. What else do you want?

My rating is what I expect of a diner, not high-end eating.

This is my father's favorite place to order a variety of menu items, from breakfast to full lunches that include soup and salad to burgers. Everything I've ever had here when visiting was very good, and Dad is a picky eater.

The menu is very wide, from breakfast items ($7 for 2 eggs, meat, toast, home fries, and coffee/tea; omlettes less than $9 with toast and potatoes ) to lunch specials at $10 for soup, salad, and main with veges, with a number of selections. Burgers ($6 range, add $2.50 for lettuce, tomato, and fries) and main courses for dinner (around $15-16 that includes soup, salad, potato/starch, veg, and main.)

Honestly, my Dad thinks he is in heaven with the liver and onions lunch special. Few restaurants serve this anymore, and it is very good here. Most recently, I had the lunch special of fish cakes with spicy marinara sauce (verging on fra diavolo) with the works of soup and salad. Many mains at lunch are enough to take home for another day. I really enjoy the fresh-tasting homemade soups.

There is a full bar, beer and wine, but since we are usually here for breakfast or lunch, I can't comment much about this. Carafe of wine -- $7.

Friendly, professional service.

So: this is an gem for all-around casual dining. Very good prices, consdiering that it is Westchester. I would be a regular if I lived closer, and not just visiting the family. It's an easy place to go to.

The best bagels in the area without a doubt. Chewy, soft, with a hint of sweetness, freshly baked, and available with a variety of freshly made flavored cream cheeses. They also exclusively serve Boar's head meats and cheeses for their sandwiches. Abundant, easy parking in their shopping center location. Seats available inside and outside. I love their great egg sandwiches!!!!!!

Ocean House

Reviewed By thewestchestarian - Westchester County

Located in a somewhat industrial-looking stretch next to Route 9 sits what looks like a double-wide trailer although the restaurant claims it to be a former diner. The cramped but tastefully appointed interior means you'll be part of your neighbor's conversation like it or not. However, if your primary concern revolves around what's on the plate you are in for a literal treat. The creative seafood menus doesn't disappoint. Oysters came with a delightfully briny sauce. Crab bisque was savory and rich. Expertly prepared salmon let you know how it should be done. This virtuosity doesn't come cheap, however, even without a bar bill, the check approached $300 for 4 people. Only hard core foodies would see that as value for money. In short, at these prices think about how much you actually like seafood.

Tagine

Jonathan Pratt and Craig Purdy have known one another since 1971. They met at Peter Pratt's Inn and today they are co-owners of this iconic country dining landmark. When daydreaming about new food ideas and restaurants they'd like to run, discussion would return again and again to the idea of casual French food, like the two recalled from the early days of Peter Pratt's Inn. Craig would fill in the margins with stories about riding scooters around coastal India, or hitchhiking to southern Morocco. The foundation of any successful restaurant venture is a secure, affordable location. When the 120 Grand Street lease became available, Jonathan and Craig ran out of excuses for not doing this restaurant which had been in their thoughts for so long. So here it is-a blend of casual French with the surprising seasonings of North Africa-their long anticipated restaurant venture, Tagine.

Classic French style restaurant with Morrocan twist. Elegant decor, classic French, white cloth service with a menu that serves both French and Moroccan dishes. I always come here for a good steak frites au poivre. Their soups are outrageously delicious. The crème brûllée is worth every sugar laden calorie. The price is slightly more than the usual restaurant, but it's still the bargain and the service is also excellent. The owner usually comes by the table to personally ask if you are enjoying the meal.

I've been to brunch twice in the past couple of months. The breakfast BLT is wonderful. nice portion size and fresh. $5 brunch drinks as well.

Brunch for two with coffee, tea and 1 brunch drink was under $40. Really can't beat that.

This is worth the trip.
