La Terrasse

Nice restaurant open all year. English owned so menu is less French than others restos in Cotignac. Consistently good home cooked meals and a lovely warm welcome by the Manager, plus its definitely the best value in Cotignac. We eat here often and always leave feeling good. They have a nice terrasse at the rear and I agree with a previous review, that it difficult to tell if its open or from the roadside. I haven't tried the Crumble yet, but will next time.

Restaurant Les Pins

Reviewed By Anja70 - Dieburg

We have been going to this restaurant for 20 years......not often but regularly.....and we have never had a bad meal. In fact, most meals were outstanding.
Restaurants in this area can be average and Les Pins has been of nice constant quality and creativity.
When friends wanted to take us out for a meal we suggested Les Pins....knowing it will be good.
What we did not know was that the chef had just changed.
Instead of going for a menu I chose the “chef’s suggestion”......which cost 29 Euros, about the same price as the menu would have been and therefore I thought it would be especially good.
Sadly the three others decided to have the same. We all got served a big tough piece of veal with 5 spears of asparagus...........nothing else. I really felt the chef was taking the Mickey!!
After wine and coffee our friends ended up paying over 200 Euros for 4 people.....just one course each. What a disappointment! Needless to say that “Les Pins” will not see us again!!

We passed through Carcés again, after staying here 6 years ago. Delighted to see L'Oie still open, we stopped in for lunch. It was amazing that Claire remembered us! The food was very pleasant, but the special thing about the restaurant is the "ambience". Everything, including the food feels authentic. And Claire and Pierre are charming and welcoming. Highly recommended!

Interesting setting overlooking the vines, so a lovely peaceful location to eat. Signed photo of Brad and Angelina by the loo. Excellent organic local wines. The food, however, was a total disappointment. Five of us chose the beef and we all struggled to eat it as it was so tough and tasteless. Nothing remarkable about the starters or desert. Wouldn't bother returning.

creperie la sarrazine

Reviewed By hdinin - Fox-Amphoux, France

The food is excellent, and the value is quite high as crepes, for some reason, are considered more of a down-market dish. This is not fair, and Creperie La Sarrazine offers a very broad selection of savory and sweet alternatives, quite attractively plated, and all of them well-cooked.
To our little family, crepes are a choice we make less often, but it's always nice to know there is such an opportunity nearby, highly reliable, and of very high quality, good food value for an overall good value given the lower prices crepe dishes command compared to more traditional mains served at other restaurants.
The staff are friendly and efficient. And although the decor and furniture are of a more modest design, they are attractive and comfortable and do not detract from the dining experience.

I am a sucker for top notch French rural cuisine anyway, but this place still delivers in spades and for what you get, it's incredibly reasonable. Lovely starters of mussels and a dressed avocado, tasty rabbit thigh with mash for me and piece du boucher with roquefort sauce for companion topped off with a chocolate mousse to die for and a faisselle with honey. We went a la carte, but they do three generous courses for 18€ which is amazing. All good local wines available, some for less than 20€ a bottle.

After earlier disappointing restaurant visits in Cotignac, this restaurant restored my faith in the town and French cuisine. Delicious Camembert & truffle starter, followed by duck, salmon and beef mains and wonderful chocolate mouse, molten chocolate cake and tart du jour for pudding. Very friendly and attentive staff and on leaving, we booked again for our final night in town.

We booked this half board accommodation due to the location and it being great value. It is located on its own so is a tranquil quiet setting. The accommodation itself is good quality. No complaints about the beds, the room, the bathroom or the facilities. It even had a fridge which was very much appreciated. The only downside was the smell of sewage round the back which meant we kept the door closed. It could also do with tidying up a bit where the outdoor table and chairs are as there are no many leaves and trees in the way to actually sit there. Apart from that though, the customer service was very good and so was the food. On the morning we left early for the airport we were supplied with breakfast in our room the night before which was appreciated. The breakfast was more than adequate and again, great value - there was fruit salad, bread, croissants, pain au chocolate, coffee, hot chocolate and a selection of home made jams and nutella! There is also free wifi which is a plus and a coffee/hot chocolate machine in the room (you buy the pods at reception). In terms of location, it is perfect for the Gorges du Verdon, so if you stay here, you have to venture north to see this area. You will not be disappointed!

Pile Poele

Reviewed By Bob I - London, United Kingdom

For the last night of our holidays, on a Sunday, five of us went for what we hoped would be a nice traditional French meal.
What we got was one of the worst meals I've ever had and the rudest, most unimaginable response from the staff I've ever experienced in France.
We ordered an array of starters and mains which looked to be appealing on the menu. My meal began with a mixed seafood platter. It was well below average. The kind of frozen, rubbery, seafood you'd get from a box at a budget supermarket. I had to spit the baby octopus into my napkin. The calamari rings were puffed up like onion rings and were full of air. The prawns tasted of mercury. They came with three dips that were obviously squeezed out of a tub. I could not finish my plate and for someone who loves seafood, this is a rarity.
I brushed off the fact that my starter was terrible, in the hope that my duck, famous in this region, could not be messed up. The main arrived and right from the outset, it was a complete failure.
I didn't want to ruin the meal for my party of five, so I gave the duck a taste, cutting into the breast. It was over done, almost grey in colour. It sat on an oily bed of congealed fat that was revolting. On the plate, there was what were clearly old mushrooms, reheated and piled high. A leaf of romaine that was browning at the edges was below a gone off wretched looking tomato. There were aged potatoes that also looked reheated too. Finally, there was a small ramekin of mouldy courgettes with crème fraiche that had dried into a crusty texture. I couldn't eat any of it.
My fellow guests were none too happy with their meals of sea bass, prawns and duck too, but decided to give theirs a shot. They didn't enjoy their food whatsoever.
When the waiter came by to ask if everyone was okay, I told him in French that it wasn't. He asked why and I began listing off my dish's failures. He asked if I wanted to order something else and I said I didn't, precisely because I don't think there was anything on the menu that would be nice at this stage. In the end, he walked away without taking my plate, leaving it there in front of me which was very unprofessional and off putting. I was quite angry with his attitude as he then left us there for about 30 minutes before I had to walk up to the bar area and ask for the bill.
It came and I was shocked when he had charged for my duck at €18.50. I'd had a single bite and it seemed he wouldn't take any of the criticisms I'd made. He began asking me in French if I knew anything about cuisine. I told him I did and he went on a tirade about where the produce came from, how fresh it was, how he would be at a loss if he did not charge for the duck. I told him that this was not my problem. He grew angry and I said I did not want to have this conversation debating with him and that I would not pay for the duck. He said I had to, which fastened my principle even further for not wishing to pay.
We left the 151.50 from a bill of 170 taking off the duck ourselves and making a point. We walked out.
As we were walking up the street, he came out shouting at us. We walked on, through the town. It was creating some tension among us but I was quite adamant that we were in the right.
Next thing, on our way home, a car came swinging in beside us and out get three staffers from the restaurant. They walked towards us demanding we pay the €18.50 for the duck. In France, they said, you must pay for what you order, even if you don't like it. This was almost laughable as a concept for me having lived and worked in France. At this point, I was in shock and told them that it was a wholly unsatisfactory meal, that I didn't hardly touch my plate, that I had made my complaint and that they had received €150 from us which I thought was more than enough for the below standard meal and bad attitude we'd had to endure. The owner said he was going to call the police to which I told him to go ahead and do and walked off. He 'ordered' me to stay put which I didn't. We walked off and he drove behind us in his car. At this point, the girls in our group were becoming a little frightened by the whole ordeal so finally, there and then, we reluctantly gave them the €18.50.
In its entirety, it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in France and in a restaurant for that matter. The glowing reviews above must be approached with extreme scepticism. They are written in bad English which suggests they are the work of the proprietors.
The food is terrible here. I would strongly suggest you avoid this restaurant.
