Pounda

Reviewed By Jingle05 - Yorkshire

Hidden off the square leading up to the Monastery, POUNDA is worth searching out. On the square itself is a fairly ordinary cafe with a couple of tables (also called Pounda)....but go behind it - & you find yourself walking into a secret courtyard garden and a Hidden Gem. Owned by a Danish woman & her Greek husband Pounda has a wonderful garden, many tables and a fascinating menu. We say (when it was closed) drinking ice cold beers (not a problem)....and then, when it opened at 5pm, we opted for a couple of long, slow cooked succulent peasant casseeroles. A rabbit....and a lamb stew. Just lovely. Would definitely recommend Pounda - a place to read, relax and enjoy good food when you're ready for it.

Zefiros Anemos

This is the place to go to get the freshest and best prepared fish on the island. Several locals recommended the restaurant to us and it didn't disappoint!!! The owner recommended a delicious bottle of wine to accompany our huge fish we ordered and an appetizer as well and he came out to speak with us several times during our meal. It was delicious and the courtyard space is a very beautiful setting to enjoy your meal.

Piatsa

Reviewed By ogenkidesu - Asia

We had our lunch here while in Folegandros. The setting was in garden Terrace, and service staff was helpful and attentive. The Tzatziki was refreshing, tomato balls nicely textured, grilled octopus was addictive and the grill chicken with pita and fries was filling and nice. All in all, a pleasurable dinner for us.

The restaurant has a great view, perched just above the Agios Nicholaos beach. The food is very good (including great, fresh fish), and even the house wine is unusually good. The service is very friendly.

To Goupi

Reviewed By Carlo_Milan_Italy - Milan, Italy

Folegandros's Chora is packed with restaurants, bars and any type of place that will satisfy your food quest. To Goupi is a fantastic small restaurant, specializing in greek food. So, if you're looking for very well executed Greek dishes, this is the right place. It isn't possible to book a table and in crowded nights you'll be obliged to queue a little, but again it definitely worths the wait. Prices are just right and staff is very attentive. We've been here a couple of times during our vacation and we always left very happy. A must when you're in Folegandros.

Nicolas Michailidis

Reviewed By Barry B - King's Lynn

This is a restaurant with a difference and the difference is Nicholas, the joint owner with his genius of a cook wife. He has games, puzzles, wi fi, lap tops for the use of customers, his own humorous guide to the island (in several languages). E.G. "There are no snakes on the island. Well, maybe the sand pythons, but they are only 18 cms long, when they were babies"! + clean toilets. Nicholas is very charismatic, jigging about to the music he is playing, joking with both customers and friends as they pass by. The restaurant has an overhead canopy next to a large tree. There is a varied menu and everything is cooked fresh. The house wines from the barrel are all good, especially the dry red. I am vegetarian and the vegetarian moussaka was very tasty. My wife enjoyed the chicken slouvaki. There were interesting extras too. After each meal he would give us a free dessert for two, including a really nice orange pie and an equally nice apple pie. We asked for loukoumadi and it came swimming in honey and with a sparkler! He would serve rakomelo which he set on fire at the table. We ate here every evening for seven days. This restaurant is one of the first you come to in the first of the three plazas. Please give it a try - you won't be disappointed.

This restaurant is a little gem,and well worth finding. The fresh fish was superb, yes it's expensive but no more than anywhere else and better quality than anywhere else that we ate. The owner is very friendly, and happily accommodated my non fish wishes...it's my husband who loved the fish. This and pounda are the two best restaurants in Chita in my opinion.

To Asigrito

Reviewed By Media1994 - Stamford, United Kingdom

You know when somewhere isn't going to be quite right from the welcome you receive. The waitress at To Asigrito was almost indifferent. The food was also pretty ordinary with far too much 'ting, ting' from the array of microwaves that adorned the open plan kitchen. I opted for the spit roasted pork and lamb bit it was overcooked and not great quality - rather disppointing. The overriding impression at this restaurant is that they have been doing this for years and every day is he same. There is no spontaneity; nothing creative and nothing different. It is a formulaic way to earn a living. Unfortunately, the hospitality industry relies on a positive attitude and customer service and when there are lots of other tavernas prepared to deliver that in spades - those that go through the motions are shown up. Don't get me wrong, the food here was OK - but from my five nights in Chora, there are lots of other places I would eat ahead of this one!

Melissa

Reviewed By gpissio - Thessaloniki Greece

"Melissa" located in the heart of Folegandros Chora, in the second square out of three available in the village. It's a traditional Greek tavern offers some local typical examples like Matsatsa, hand made pasta. Only they made them better that the others. Expect to find queues for dinner time , if you go between 20.00 to 22.00, i think they do not accept Reservations.

Visit for coffee and snacks. Epic view, lounge attitude. Service ok, tasty snacks. Probably the most expensive fresh juice we paid this summer in Greece (6 euros).
