These little towns still have old memories that last long, usually in their downtown area, with small antique shops, art-deco movie theater, and some old buildings that are still here.

And Happy Thought Coffee is in one of those buildings, built in 1868, it is of course renovated inside, but it still has that spirit of history and the past.

The coffee shop is very cozy, nicely decorated and furnished, high ceilings, large windows; it has very friendly staff at the counter, and it offers nice choice of all kinds of sandwiches, croissants, wraps, pizzas, soups, etc. on their menu. They also serve breakfast, and have a separate kids menu.

Gretchen - the receptionist/server- was very friendly and helpful. She recommended certain dishes from their large menu, and I enjoyed that croissant with chicken salad and some fruit very much. Jamaican coffee was delicious. Free refills as much as you want to. The coffee shop is not very small, it also has a tiny shop with all kinds of 'things' (like, pottery, etc). And in the back of the shop there is a travel agency 'World Class Travel' whose staff was very amiable when I talked to them.

If you walk a block or so down from the coffee shop you find yourself at the bank of the very powerful (and very gray, this time of year) Illinois River, pretty much flooded in early spring. A very small picnic area right on the river bank adds to the quiet beauty of this part of town.

It was a lovely stop, in a 180-year old town of Chillicothe, at a 149-year old building that has this friendly-happy (and very young, by comparison) 19-year old Coffee Shop that serves excellent food. Happy thoughts, indeed! ...

This is a nice change of pace from your everyday restaurant. It's located between Mossville and Chillicothe along the river. For Illinois, this location has a beautiful view. I had the Brisket sandwich which was excellent and it included fresh toppings. You can choose to get this sandwich several different ways according to your taste. It also comes with your choice of one side. I had the chips which were great. The restaurant was clean and the waitress was very friendly and attentive. On days that permit, there is outdoor seating. If you haven't tried this restaurant and you're in the area, check it out you won't be disappointed!

Step through the looking glass into a disneyesque magic kingdom of all things yummy. It's a little like Raggedy Ann and Andy's world where everything is edible, but you're not dreaming. Dazzlingly clean due to the owner's admirable obsession with training employees in food service hygiene, the store is a fairyland of color and pattern. This is not a stop to make without allowing time to browse the toys and nose among the bins. The candy selection will take the old timers back to the penny candy counters of their youth, and the smalls will lose themselves in the amazing sand table with its imaginative digging and bulldozing toys. (Who am I kidding? _I_ wanted to dig in the sand!!) Do not order even one scoop of ice cream unless you are seriously empty or an ice cream junky OR you have someone to lick up your leftovers, because a serving seems like a pint, very reasonably priced. But the very best of all is your host, who clearly loves his work, his customers, life in general, and has a heart for the downtrodden. Go for the sweets, stay for the comforting, caring friendship extended with warmth and sincerity.

Early diner food, with daily specials that are ample and soul food good. Homey atmosphere set next to the old Santa Fe train depot. Trains do not stop here now but the meals chug along. Breakfasts are a favorite with biscuits and sausage graveyard leading the way. Soups of the day and other staples such as the fish frys etc offer good variety with endless coffee, juices and soft drinks quenching the thirsty .

Grecian Garden Restaurant

Looking for a local place that wouldn't be too busy on a Saturday night. This was the family's first time here & we enjoyed it! I had the pork tenderloin & fries, very good. My husband had the fried chicken based on recommendation of fellow diner & he said it was very good. I would try a steak the next time as those had good reviews as well. Our daughter had the spaghetti which came with garlic toast & salad and she liked it, too. They have quite a few Greek items which are hard to find around here--definitely will try those on another visit!

When this pub opened, I had hoped the owner was going to be the cook and expand her bowling alley offerings of stuffed pork chops and other ambrosial home entrées. However, about the only thing that survived is the pork tenderloin, which is enormous and worth the trip if you don't mind hauling half home for later. This is a pub and pub food is served, although at the bowling alley the food transcended the setting. I don't think there's anything BAD, just not anything to rave over.

Saw a friend's Facebook post about the place so decided to try it. It was not a disappointment. Very clean, comfortable place. Family owned, daughter is the manager. Great food, tenderloin was huge. Burger was great too. They recognize military, police, and firefighters, active and retired, with a discount. We will definitely go back there.

Place was busy so I took that as a good sign. After a 10 minute wait at the hostess stand I was ready to leave when someone finally showed up to seat me. After another 10 minute wait for a server to come around I was able to order an ice tea and chimichunga with chicken.

Food came before my ice tea! Never did get a refill. Chimichunga was good but was beef instead of chicken and not sure the little half a spoon full of sour cream should be considered a topping!

Had to ask for my bill, waited 5 minutes for it to come and it was wrong! Had two things on it that I did not order! Took another 10 minutes for her to fix that and bring me my change.

Food was good but not what I ordered. Rest of the place not so great, probably will not be back here again.

Parking is very Good!
