We went during a week night when Seagle Colony was showing a play - it was packed! The hostess seemed overwhelmed and a little disorganized - we were sat 25mins after our reservation time (not the 'few' she told us at arrival).

It's a nicely decorated restaurant in otherwise quiet Pottersville. The tables are real home style dining room tables and very nice. The salads were very fresh and good size. I had the soup special of Gumbo, which was flavorful and excellent. Entrees are mostly steak and seafood, but we had a chicken and pasta dishes which were done well. The wine list is very limited, but byo is welcome and I don't think they charge corkage. I'd recommend byo..

Enjoyed a weekend lunch here, taking respite from a cold rainy day in this bustling restaurant-gift shop. The Arnold Palmer, Nantucket soup and crab cake sandwich were great and the almond joy sundae was perfect for sharing. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. I would go out of my way to return here!

Odd Duck

Reviewed By Roger K - Clifton Park, NY

Certainly you’ve heard the expression, “That’s an odd duck.” It’s generally used to describe an unusual, different or strange individual. So what is it that causes this restaurant to be called the Odd Duck? Maybe it’s because it’s an unusual, different or strange restaurant?

Well, if it’s unusual, it’s because the food is unusually good. If it’s different, it’s because it’s different from anything else in Chestertown. If it’s strange, it’s strange that more people don’t know about it and aren’t beating a path to its door.

We showed up on a Saturday evening around 6 pm. Granted, it was late October and most of the leaves had already fallen off the trees so there were not a lot of people out looking to enjoy the Fall colors. And depending upon your perspective, happily or sadly, there was no snow on the hills yet calling out to the schussboomers. But with a motto posted outside saying “Eat Drink Laugh” we felt confident that we had selected the right place for dinner.

With a half dozen or more of craft beers available on draft, we were a third of our way through their motto as we enjoyed pints of Ubu ($6 each). My wife marveled at their selection of bourbon/whiskey. The bar has a comfortable homey feeling about it with a couple of high-top tables and a single standard table. Off in a separate room is the main dining area with about eight standard tables with early American style chairs and duck hunting print, window valences.

Obviously, we felt this was a place where we should try something with duck, so from the appetizer menu we ordered the Duck Wings ($9) along with a cup of their Seafood Gumbo ($4). Four large meaty duck drumsticks with a cherry BBQ glaze were really flavorful and sticky wash-your-hands-before-your-entrée good. Not super crispy because of the glaze, but that didn’t matter. The house-made Gumbo was truly full of great flavors and nice and thick. An excellent Winter-warmer if you decide to order a bowl full.

Here we were just approaching our main courses and we felt we had already accomplished two-thirds of their motto.

My wife decided upon the Ahi Tuna Salad ($12) for her dinner while I went with the Short Ribs ($18) entrée. The Tuna Salad presentation was very impressive. The tuna was prepared like a sushi roll by wrapping it in spinach, seaweed and panko crumbs and deep frying it. The greens, tomatoes, and the rest of the salad were placed within a circular form of mandoline sliced cucumbers. A ginger soy vinaigrette was served on the side. She really enjoyed it.

My braised beef short ribs was a very sizeable portion of meat topped with a wild mushroom demi glace and accompanied by horseradish mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini, carrots and cherry tomatoes. The rib meat was soooo tender and tasty and the demi glace had a wonderful earthy flavor. The seasonal vegetables had a nice grilled flavor that went well with the demi glace.

When our server asked if we were interested in dessert, my wife laughed and said she was stuffed. I laughed also and said, “tell me what you have and maybe you can twist my arm.” We had now fulfilled their entire motto. Hearing that they made their own Cobblers ($6), from the choice of apple, peach or cherry I chose the cherry with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cobblers were individual puff pastries freshly baked in a muffin tin and then served with the appropriate fruit topping dolloped inside. Adding a cup of coffee ($2.50) to go along with dessert, I not only felt that I had fulfilled their motto, but I probably also waddled out like an odd duck.

Service was excellent – friendly, attentive, helpful and welcoming. There are a few more things that we saw on the menu that we look forward to trying on another visit. And it’s my understanding that they have a nice patio area on the backside of the building.

We were at the Silver Star twice in the last two weeks. We enjoyed a great dinner at the restaurant and loved our seats that overlooked the pond. Fabulous burger, and very good shrimp scampi. Generous portions gave us enough for lunch the next day.
Two weeks later we had carry out dinner from Silver Star and once again we had great dinners. Not always easy to please 6 adults from various backgrounds and likes. Jambalaya, fried clams, scampi, salads and wings - all great.
Don't miss a chance to enjoy a meal here. Warm, friendly people and a talented chef - you can't ask for more!

By far, this was the best wedding I have ever attended and it was largely in part due to the location. Thank you for a great time and a memorable experience.

Reviewed By patsjag28 - Naples, Florida

Since we recently moved to Chestertown for the summer, we were eager to find some restaurants and began asking around. The Bullhouse came up a couple of times so we decided to give it a try last night. After checking out the menu and searching for reviews on TripAdvisor we called for a 7 pm reservation, then took the short drive over from Loon Lake.
We arrived about 10 minutes late and were greeted warmly and seated immediately. It was fairly crowded mostly with families with small children. I certainly don't mind children but I mention it because if you are looking for an adult evening evening out it would have been difficult to carry on a quiet conversation. I imagine since this is the start of the season, we will see a lot of that.
When we were brought to the table, the menus were already placed and water glasses filled....like they were expecting us....nice touch. Our server Sharon came over to take our drink orders, my husband ordered a Sam Seasonal ($5) and I, a glass of Ca'Donini Montepulciano ($7). Deep ruby red color with hints of berry. It was quite good considering it can be purchased for less than $10. Warm and crispy homemade chips and salsa were brought to the table....another nice touch.
My husband ordered a Caesar salad ($8) which Sharon told us was large enough for two if we wanted to split it. Since she brought over settings for both of us, we did. It was quite unusual since it is grilled baby artisan greens, so it is served warm with flaked grana padano and homemade in-house creamy Caesar dressing. The presentation was very nice, as pictured below.
For entrees, I was looking forward to a new item which was a pan seared salmon with a cranberry honey mustard walnut glaze ($21). I opted for the sweet potato puree, which is really mashed potatoes. I love sweet potatoes but something in the preparation made them a bit too sweet tasting for me. My husband chose the Twin Petite Filet ($21). These are two 3 oz medallions, requested medium rare which is the way they arrived, however he stated they were not as tender as he would have liked. He ordered the baked potato and both entrees were served with green beans and a square of cornbread. We don't usually use salt but we each found ourselves salting the beans a couple of times.
Upon Sharon checking up with us, my husband added a glass of Babor Cabernet ($8) to his meal. Sharon was an excellent server, attentive but not intrusive.
My rating is less than best mostly because it literally took 45 mins to get our meals, the not-so-tender filets and my salmon had a couple of bones in it. If I found them toward the end of the meal, not as big a deal, but when it's at the beginning, you spend the rest of your meal continually searching for more.
The total bill for the dinner and drinks came to $74.70 with tax. With the standard 20% tip, tack on an additional $15.
They have specialty nights such as Tuesdays are Burger nights and Wednesday are Mexican nights. We are both unsure of whether we will return at this point but I think everyone deserves a second chance, perhaps on one of the Special nights.
