Sissy's Saddle Shop Cafe

This is a family style restaurant with country cooking at its best. Everything cooked like grandma's house. Homemade desserts, homemade rolls or cornbread when available. Only 3 miles outside of Cameron. Worth the trip off the beaten path to come have a Homestyle country meal at a reasonable price. Chicken fried steak is one of our most requested.

It was great to have lunch at Sissy's place yesterday: excellent selection of lunch and supper dishes prepared by the lady herself and friendly, professional service. My wife and I liked her earlier restaurant in downtown Cameron, The Houston Street Emporium, several years ago,and we'll...MoreThank you so much for your review. I am so excited that yall are going to be back this way more. Thank you for letting me serve you and your wife. Blessings Sissy

Dairy Queen

I have eaten here several times in the past several months with the latest visit being yesterday. The store is fairly large with plenty of seating. Cleanliness was ok, but it was not what the normal person would consider to be clean. The restroom needed attention.

The staff was not overly friendly, but they were pleasant. Unlike most DQ's in this area of Texas, this one does not give a senior citizen discount. On top of that, their prices are much higher than most DQ's. The quality of the food was average and the service was average as well.

Sorry, but this DQ does not have much going for it so I recommend you keep on driving to the next town and try your luck there.

Old School Coffee & Creamery

Driving from Austin to Dallas on backroads, looked for a breakfast spot in Cameron. Would not have found this place with exception that we tend to drive around courthouse squares and look downtown at buildings, etc. when traveling. This venue is off the main highway and did not see any signage prior to stumbling onto building. Very limited food selection, lots of coffee choices. Historic venue, first school house in TX, had a slice of quiche but all other food was out. People after us were told that no food was available so very limited. They do have ice cream! Make sure to walk to back of building to see the yard art on wall, impressive.

This is my absolute favorite place to eat in Rockdale. Traditional meals and they use quality product to make them. My favorite are the calzones and the white pizza. If you don't feel like going out this is the ONLY place in town I'm aware of that delivers!! A definite must.

Always fresh food with a large variety. Sandwiches on homemade bread, great soups, baked potatoes, wraps and daily specials. Zesty avocado salad is a must have and John's chili is a 'don't miss' on cold days. Did I mention pies and bread pudding? Well be prepared to take a some home, they're that good. Super staff and cozy atmosphere!

Taqueria Los Comales

We were attending a basketball tournament in Cameron and needed a place for lunch. The Tourney brochure contained an ad for the restaurant. I looked it up on trip advisor and read the reviews. They were spot on. Our food was hot and fresh, service was good, and the price was great. The amount of food you got for the price was good. Two of us ate for under $20. We could tell there were lots of locals there which is always a good sign. Although it was past lunch time, the restaurant was still crowded. Plus, they were still serving breakfast at 1:30 pm.

Big Bob's Steakhouse

Reviewed By Dan B

I have been to Bob's many times over the years and have had delicious food and great service every time. Membership is required to indulge in alcoholic beverages, which beer, wine and mixed drinks are offered at reasonable prices.

As mentioned in other reviews, Bob's is out of the way and not seen from the highway. It's about 2 miles north of Cameron, TX. on Hwy 77 (Precinct 1 Warehouse at intersection) at the west end of Industrial Blvd.

Agreed, those looking for a fancy exterior will be disappointed, but inside I would describe the atmosphere as simple and quaint with country arts/craft decor. The restaurant has been very clean on every visit. The experience is best described as sincere southern hospitality, where I always receive a friendly greeting by the owner, his wife, son, or staff. It fits the small town locale, so if you prefer a formal door greeter handing you off to someone seating you at a table, handing you off to another waitperson, this is not that place, instead be prepared to be treated like a family friend with southern hospitality.

No smoking in the restaurant, which is a major plus since often small town restaurants allow smoking with poor ventilation. Smoking is allowed in the adjacent bar, which I found sitting too close to the saloon type swinging doors separating the bar, you may experience an occasional whiff of smoke when staff bring beverages from the bar. If you are sensitive to smoke, I suggest sitting at a table away from the bar area.

The food has always been excellent.

Below are menu items experienced at Bob's

Rib-eye steaks are nicely trimmed, seasoned and grilled to perfection. The taste, texture and flavor of flame seared grilled beef is exceptional with seasoning that accents the steak without overpowering it. Very well trimmed steaks means no excessive fat trimmings on your plate when finished.

The Filet and NY Strip are also exceptional. In my experience there is no wrong, or less tasty choice with the steaks offered. Personal preference just brings me back to the rib-eye most often.

The chicken fried steak is the real deal, not too heavy batter covering a tender steak with tasty cream gravy you expect from a down home country restaurant. I typically ask for grilled onions on mine.

The grilled chicken salad is tasty, especially with homemade blue cheese salad dressing, that typically has ample chunks of tangy blue cheese.

Baja Shrimp meal/appetizer - These grilled jumbo shrimp are wrapped with bacon and served with a side of tangy marmalade dipping sauce. If you prefer crispy bacon at the risk of overcooking the shrimp, you must ask it prepared this way, otherwise expect the shrimp to be perfectly cooked, which means the bacon most often will not be very crispy.

Alligator meal/appetizer - This is a seasonal offering based on availability, so you must ask your server if it's available. It is absolutely the very best tasting alligator I have ever had. It is very nicely seasoned with a light batter deep fried to perfection, such that the alligator meat is juicy and tender. In my experience, most places typically overcook alligator, making it tough and chewy, which I have never experienced at Bob's.

Mixed veggies are always cooked al dente to my delight.

Miniature wheat bread loaf is brought to your table and replenished at your request.

There are more offerings on the menu, these are items personally tasted.

The appearance of this establishment on the outside is not at all impressive, but inside you get great pastries beyond just donuts. In addition, you get friendly and prompt service. This is not a fancy pastry shop, but it does provide a great service. Try the sausage, cheese, and jalapeno kolache; they are out of this world. I will certainly stop at this place the next time I am in Cameron, Texas.

We ate here on a Sunday afternoon and had the place to ourselves. The service was great and fast - food was wonderful and it was not expensive at all. I took half my dinner home as the portions are nice and big. The atmosphere could use a little help but the place was clean. Italian food at its best without breaking your budget!
