Brownsville is a borough in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States, first settled in 1785 as the site of a trading post a few years after the pacification of the Iroquois enabled a post-Revolutionary war resumption of westward migration. The Trading Post soon became a tavern and Inn, and was soon receiving emigrants heading west as it was located above the cut bank overlooking first ford that could be reached to those descending from the Mountains Brownsville is located 40 miles (64 km) south of Pittsburgh along the east bank of the Monongahela River.

Had lunch here with a girlfriend who had never been to Brownsville. The restaurant is just simply beautifully restored. We initially were the only ones there and the service was, of course, very good. We enjoyed the brussels sprouts and the tater tot's. I enjoyed the tuna tartare salad & my friend had the crab cake. So glad to find this restaurant--worth the drive. So unique & gorgeous atmosphere. I hope to return to enjoy a dinner now that I've been here. Just a lovely place & good food. I recommend.

Route 40 Classic Diner

Reviewed By SBreezy29 - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Stopped here on the way to the Brownsville Drive-In for the first time, and I really enjoyed it! It's decorated exactly like a old 50's diner with Americana memorabilia from that time era decorating the whole restaurant. The menu items are named after 50's era things too! Luckily it wasn't busy when we arrived, and we got our drinks quickly, and didn't wait very long for our food either. The waitress was very nice, and answered all our questions. I got a milkshake, which was not too thick, but just right, and the Italian hoagie, which was perfect. The prices aren't bad either! Bottom line if u have time to spare before a trip to the drive in or are taking a ride on old route 40, stop and give it a try! It's definitely a unique experience!

In Fayette County and surrounding area to visit all the historic sights. Found this Diner next to the Fayette County Historical Building. A home style breakfast, I had buckwheat pancakes, made from scratch and my better half had the "Garbage Plate" and HOMEMADE sausage gravy! OUT OF THIS WORLD! Waitresses were right on, coffee cup never empty. We will go back!

This was our first time at Lagerheads. Nice clean restaurant/bar. The restaurant is separated from the bar area which is nice. It was busy for a Wednesday evening. The waitress was very friendly & attentive. Nice menu selection. I had pizza & wings which were very good, husband & son had the burgers & fries which they said were also very good & friend had a fish sandwich that she liked. Wide range of age groups. Interior of the restaurant is well decorated .Definitely will return.

This is a drive-through place on the main street leading to California University of Pennsylvania. They have an extensive selection of beverages, both hot and cold. The sandwich menu is varied enough that everyone should be able to find something. For me, there is a problem with the menu that is, actually, easily fixed. Using "hot dogs" as an example, they list a "regular", a "gourmet" that has skin, and one that is, apparently, a heavier version of the regular hot dog. I ordered a chili dig and both the hot dog and chili were excellent. If they were simply to amend the menu or tell the staff the brand hot dog being used in each categofy, it would make the decision easier. I do recommend stopping for something hot or cold.

We'd frequented The Back Porch years ago, but moved out of the area. What a treat to have gotten to return for a memorable Thanksgiving Day meal, with our parents - everything was wonderful, from the excellent and beautifully presented butternut squash bisque soup, and the salad of mixed greens with walnuts and a fresh and delicious dressing, to the sliced roasted Turkey with all the trimmings, all exceptional, and to the wonderful creme brûlée we all chose for dessert! The restaurant is in a lovely old restored building, which feels warm but elegant and welcoming, and the waitstaff are attentive and knowledgeable. Our family had a truly great time being there for such a delicious meal - we can't wait to return again!
