We stopped here after a morning of touring the Belgium Barracks and Tank museum. It was lunch and extremely packed. I'm sure our huge group didn't help matters. This place is right down the street from McAuliffe square. Great location, we had a picked menu and I don't remember exactly what we had but it was good.. The beer was good too, what ever kind that was. Overall OK, but great location

With limited French Vs English to work with we had a lovely lunch for 4. We were in a bit of a hurry to catch a bus and they did a great job. The food was delicious and very generous. We dined with a couple local dogs at the table next to us and they were well behaved. We had everything from salads to sandwiches to shrimp. Very good lunch.

Bastogne isn't easy for eating, since McAuliffe Square is basically set up to fleece tourists. My son & I were on a "Band of Brothers" tour and spent three nights in town, and ate at three separate places, so we got a sense of what's available. Le Grill has some quirky service, and wasn't very crowded, but the food was both delicious and reasonably-priced (far better than the mysteriously popular Wagon Leo around the corner). The food is French in style & offering, but includes many items that will be familiar to an American. You can add value by having one of the "menu" selections that combine a starter, a main dish and a dessert (or sometimes also a selection of cheeses).

Wagon Leo

Reviewed By soinic - Lux.

Since 1946 Wagon Leon exists, first it was a "friterie" (French fries) in a train wagon, then it became a well known "brasserie"....
Lunch was not what we used to have here :(
Some competent old waiters, but mainly unorganized and unprofessionnal youngsters.
Normally on all the tables you find "peanuts, bread and a spread/dip", not on our table :(
Many different waiters were hoveriing around without giving real service to the few customers.
Business lunch not available, as it was "too late"!? (2.10 pm), restaurant serves food all day long.
Croquettes crevettes as starter were good :) , the only positive souvenir.
White open houswine (1/2 pichet for 11 Euros) was disgusting, stinky vinegar stuff :(
Deception with the main course, asparagus with ham. Served COLD :((
Filet de cabillaud which was always delicious wasn't to our taste this time. (smelled fishy)
Frozen? convenience food style French fries (frites), what a shame as Belgium is the worldknown "Kingdom of Frites".
Long waiting time, during which the waiter took care of our animation, he cleaned the tables next to us with spray :( , nice ambiente, nice smell, nice style!?
Expensive lunch (100 Euros for 2) which didn't make us happy :(
Non merci :(

Restaurant Giorgi

Reviewed By Ken S - Rugby, United Kingdom

We ate in Giorgi on a Monday night when there were not too many restaurants open in Bastogne. Consequently, the restaurant was packed - although we had pre-booked and found a table OK.
The food was pretty good, although my wife’s pizza could have been hotter (I guess it had been sitting whilst the chef completed my veal in mild curry sauce).
The turnover of diners at adjoining tables was pretty quick and we felt pressured to vacate our table as soon as we had finished our meal. The atmosphere felt more like a ‘fast food joint’ rather than a restaurant and this was reflected in the clientele who were mainly young.
Giorgi was OK, but we will not be rushing back.

A nice and friendly place for lunch, the patisserie serves large sandwiches or pasta bowls with Belgian beer and a smile. The specialty though is dessert. Many flaky pastries will tempt you. This appears to be the best place to eat on Place McAuliffe.

Close to Bastogne you find this restaurant situated in a little village.
Friendly welcome.
Nice modern and clean ambiente.
Excellent and innovative food well combined and tasty.
Different choices of pre-set menus.
Can recommend the 55 Euro one with wine pairing for 30 Euros.
Be prepared to discover also special finds, for example one of the complimentary "amuses bouche" was grilled grashopper.... it was prepared ready to eat (no legs, no wings) and very crisp with a taste that reminds you of grilled nuts!
Special mention for the "Irish coffee" which was served "selon les règles de l'art".
Looking forward to come back :)
Advanced table reservation is a good idea.

Le Saint Germain

This is an excellent restaurant which is a very short walk from the town centre and behind a petrol station in a small, but pleasant building. Don't let the location put you off as this restaurant is well worth seeking out.
The restaurant is simply, but sophisticatedly decorated and I was eating with a group of colleagues. The menu is excellent, with sufficient choices rather than too many and my froie gras starter and pork main were excellent as was my fruit soup pudding. Good wines and coffee were also served.
The staff were all excellent.
If in the area I would strongly recommend.
