Flying J Ranch Chuckwagon Supper and Western Entertainment

For over 30 years, folks have been stepping back into the legendary era of the Great American Cowboy at the Flying J Ranch. We invite you to experience an evening of great chuck wagon cooking and western music much like cowboys would have enjoyed after a long day on the trail. Enjoy the Western Village, complete with gift shops, pony rides for kids, tipi, and even a gunfight before supper. All this followed up with a fantastic and fun Western Music Stage show featuring the Flying J Wranglers.

It was very funny, the food was good and the best was the music after the meal. Wonderful! A nice evening for the whole family. Children can ride and become deputy sheriff. How the food is served is an experience for itself already, almost everything tasted great and you could get as much second helping as you wanted. The only thing I did not like was the cake, which was too dry. There was water, iced tea and lemonade for drink. The gun show before the meal was a little - well. But as I said, the best was the music! Great voices and all have mastered their instruments.

Great empanadas filled with apricot, cherry or apple. The breakfasts aren’t as good as last time we visited about 2yrs ago. We do not like the red potatoes they fix. Bread for toast is great. Eggs were prepared good. We preferred the Log Cabin for breakfast.

I visited this lovely little coffee house recently when I visited an old friend in Ruidoso. My friend hosted a special event there. It was a wonderful venue for her event. The owners went all out to assist with appropriate food and libations for the event. A cucumber martini was one of my favorite things. A lovely treasure in a lovely setting. Great place to go. Food was wonderful.

I love this place! Every trip to Ruidoso includes a trip to Village Buttery. Everything they serve is unique to them, delicious, and fresh. The desserts are yummy. Inside the building is small, and full at lunch. There is room outside in the sunshine if you wish. If eating deliciously healthy is for you so is the Buttery! The menu is on the wall behind the lady taking the orders, so check it out before you get ready to order. If you give it a try, you will return!

La Sierra Mexican Restaurant

Reviewed By GrodTzu

Tried several times, as it's close to our house. Never busy, and most of the clientele are native-Mexicans, attesting to the authenticity of their food being traditional Mex food - not Tex Mex. Huge menu/offerings. Good, cold ceviche, and a host of other traditional seafood dishes are well prepared, authentic and very good. Issue is that these are not wildly popular amongst Gringo patrons ... leaving the menu's fare of standard tacos/enchiladas/rellenos/burritos/nachos/etc to compete with other restaurants - & while these items are ok at La Sierra, they're same-ol'-same-ol' chow ... certainly nothing to distinguish this restaurant.
Net/net: if you crave/enjoy authentic Mexican traditional, country food - this place is very good ... otherwise, it's average.
Note: service is again "authentic" by sweet, friendly, gracious native servers who genuinely want to please their customers. Adela is particularly good, and we always ask for her.
Finally - WARNING!!! ... when these folks say something is a "little-spicy" ... think "asbestos underwear"-spicy. Butter/milk/etc doesn't help ... nothing takes the bite outta their heat ... only time lessens the burn/pain. Caveat Emptor. i.e. You been warned.
