We stumbled on this lovely place while staying at nearby Nunsmere Hall.. The deco inside is amazing, so quirky and everywhere you look inside is something different.. Very comfy armchairs at the dining table, lovely friendly, welcoming staff and the food we had was so filling and tasty.. We enjoyed it so much we returned for tea the following night.. Thank you Fishpool Inn for a fantastic tea in beautiful surroundings with friendly staff... We definitely return again...

We booked for a meal on a warm summer's evening.We initially sat in the beer garden for a drink before deciding to continue with the meal indoors.Unfortunately for us, somewhere along the way our meal order was misplaced and we were left waiting for a long time before we were eventually served.The food, when it arrived, was excellent and we received apologies from both the waitress and the owner who went out of his way to rectify the error.Mistakes happen; how you handle them is important and on this occasion it was very professional.We will definitely be returning.

Who writes these reviews?I read the raving reviews and decided to drive out from Altrincham to take my elderly mother out for lunch.I was really looking forward to it.We walked into to the pub only to be hit by an obnoxious stale smell.The seating is shabby and very tired. I am not, for one minute saying that it isnât clean, but it isnât anything like the reviews.The barman was very friendly but spent most of our short visit throwing a ball for a dog in the garden.We declined a meal as I couldnât have stayed long enough to wait for a meal.I am not meaning to insult the landlord, or his staff, but I think that the brewery want to get a grip and put some effort into making the inside a little bit more cosy and updated.There is originality and then there is neglect.Robinsonâs you really need to up your game.The pub doesnât need to be modernised, as it has charm and character, but it does need a complete overhaul.I canât give a review on the food as I couldnât have eaten in there.We don't really respond or read trip adviser reviews, but as we were informed this one was personally insulting i will give you my response. As John Lydgate said " you can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time".Our pub dates back to the 18th century and is very dated. Most people like it's originality and authenticity and welcome the fact that it has not been ripped out and replaced by a heartless designer/ modernisation team like most other pubs in the area. We are aware this is not to everyone's taste.All of the upholstery/curtains have recently been steam cleaned and will be done again soon and the pub is cleaned daily. The kitchen is completely new and has a five star kitchen hygiene rating.As for any bad smell, no one else can smell it. As I have another career away from here and returned yesterday I would have smelled anything untoward on return to building that very morning, which I did not. We have asked other customers regarding a smell and no one else seems to be able to identify one, only the usual old pub odour.We took this pub over 4 years ago. When we took it over there was rumours that it may close down (due to the frequent change of landlords) and the extensive lands and farm to be sold off for a housing estate. We love this pub and we are determined to preserve it. Despite tough trading conditions for the pub industry and 18-20 pubs per week closing their doors, we have managed to keep going and do intend to take this pub further; despite the fact that I do have to run the pub and balance this with my other professional career, often working 80-100 hours per week. Most of our lovely locals, customers and regulars are very supportive, especially as we have never ran a pub before and this was a complete jump into the unknown. We have made mistakes and learned much along the way and no doubt have very much more to learn. If there is a mistake we have made and there is constructive feedback given then we are grateful for this and will take it on board. However, not quite sure what we can do about the decor not being to your personal taste or a bad smell that no one else seems to be able to identify or pin down. The bar manager was a little suspicious of you when you asked for latte water. I can understand that perhaps an old fashioned pub with a dated interior, serving home baked honest pub grub was not quite what you had in mind and had you been honest and explained you was after something a little bit more upmarket, then we would not have been offended and indeed made some recommendations of the many fine pubs more suited to your needs near by.However, you decided to come on trip adviser and look down your nose at us and trash our efforts. Sorry we wasn't good enough for you. Gladly, we can report that the bad smell was extinguished on your exit.We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our other lovely customers for their amazing comments and support. After being stuck in traffic for ages on the A49, we visited the Rising Sun for a quick bite to eat, the first time in about 3 years, to find that a lot of work has been done on the inside and it looks and feels great! The staff were friendly and welcoming and the lunchtime menu had lots to choose from. We both had sandwiches that were really tasty, packed with filling, came with chips and salad and were really good value for money. They also have a decent selection of real ales which is a bonus. We will definitely not be leaving it another three years before we return! Jamie was the guy that served us and was behind the bar! He was an absolute star!!!!! A real gent! The food was fantastic - I had the Cajun chicken - but the service is what made the outing so good! I will be reccomending!Hi Rebecca I'm pleased you enjoyed your visit and were impressed with Jamie's service! Decided to visit Tarporley on the way back from Chester and stop for some lunch. Decided on here as we stayed quite few years ago when visiting the area.There was a good menu, reasonable priced. The srevice from the lady who looked after the tables etc was excellent. Just the right amount of attention and very friendly.We liked the fact that there was plenty of room around the tables, that you got real table napkins and so on.The food when it came was very nice and the portions were quite large. The coffee was also excellent and tasted fresh which was a change.The place does look a little old (shabby chic?) but that is part of its charm. However we understand it is soon to close for about a month for refurbishment so we look forward to trying it a gain as we were pleased with our visit and if the standards are the same it should be good. I hope it does retain some of its style though and not 'modernised' as some places are.

This is a lovely "independent" pub to visit for some excellent cuisine. Recently refurbished the dining rooms are spacious and comfortable. A real log fire sets the perfect tone. Dog friendly in one area is another plus. We tried the white bait that was one of the nicest I've experienced. Mains - shown in the images - were whole plaice and cod steak. Both meals were equally as tasty as each other. I would recommend the Fox and Barrel and look forward to visiting again soon. #tayloredbyus

Visited when it turned out that our first choice for lunch had changed hands and had terrible reviews. Boy what a fortunate find; the pub is a lovely country Inn situated in a pretty rural village. The staff welcomed us warmly and quickly showed us to a table, took drinks order and gave us a menu.The choice was mouth watering which made the choice really difficult and time consuming. We eventually chose the crab salad with avocado, mango and grapefruit with wasabi dressing and a pig cheek with apple and green pea salad for starters, followed by a steak burger with bacon and cheese with slaw and chips and a crispy beef salad with cashews. All the food was outstanding, the staff were wonderful and toilets bright and clean.Not able to fit in dessert we opted for a couple of cups of coffee which unexpectedly came with a small piece of flapjack, which finished the meal off completely.A great place for a long overdue catch up and highly recommended.

We popped in for a drink on our way back to Leeds and ended up staying for an early dinner.The young man serving at 5pm on Monday was really professional, friendly, and helpful. We have high standards when it comes to eating out and the food here was 5 star. Huge portions. Excellent very high quality. Cooked perfectly. We enjoyed one of the gourmet hot dog, vegetarian burger, and a starter. Lovely decor and ambiance.Really really enjoyed it and weâll be back on our next trip to the area in a few weeks.
