Just walked down and called in for a couple of drinks at the New Rookery, good choice of beers and other drinks, pleasant beer garden with small children's play area. Didn't eat here this time but I'm sure I will return. A nice local pub.

We decided to have our family Xmas meal here after several delicious lunches, what a great decision! The food was wonderful, fresh home cooked food at it's best. We had two children with us, all the staff were great and homemade burgers were as excellent as expected. We cannot recommend enough, fabulous service with brilliant food. Just to note the portion sizes are massive, go hungry! Thanks for a great night!

We called here for lunch on a Saturday lunchtime, sat outside and enjoyed sausage and onion baguette and chicken/stuffing baguette, we shared a portion of chips. The food was very good, freshly prepared and the chips were fabulous, we wished we had a portion each! Facilities clean and tidy too. Would recommend.

The Lower Chequer is a fabulous pub. It is in an attractive old building dating from 1570 and has a gorgeous interior with beautiful wood panels and beamed ceilings. It has a couple of simple, but beautiful bars and, most importantly, has a really nice atmosphere. Add the fact that they also have superb Jouleâs ales (a new one for me) and very good service, and this is a superb pub.During our two day visit to this lovely town we sampled most of the town centre pubs and, in my opinion, The Lower Chequers was the best by a country mile.

I took my friend here for her birthday as a surprise as she lives outside the area. We booked a table and arrived early to be greeted by friendly staff who took us to our table. We were told about the menu and there were quite a few items that were not available. We decided on the Mezze shared platter only to be told that the falafels weren't available and we were asked if we would like extra deep fried Brie which was fine. The other little dishes were ok but just a bit of a strange mix.......... very large portion of flat/pitta bread, small dish of chopped beetroot? small dish of pickled vegetables? small dish of tzatziki topped with slices of pepper and a small dish of hummus topped with nuts/seeds. Not sure what happened to the spiced red pepper dip! There was nothing wrong with it other than a bit of a strange mix? Nice place but I would choose something different next time.We are disappointed to hear that you did not have a more positive experience with us at The Bear's Head. Thank you for bringing these issues to my attention, and I will share your comments regarding the Mezze platter with the chefs. I do hope to see you again in the future.

Dv8 At The Black Bear, located right in the heart of historic Sandbach, is a cocktail and wine bar which serves excellent food throughout the day.
This was the first visit to this bar/ restaurant and first impressions was good.It was a bank holiday weekend Sunday to be precise whilst this should be no excuse for the very poor experience we had.The venue was busy so we tolerated the long wait for our food order to arrive. When it did arrive two of the food orders was the super food salad with king prawns this should have included avocado beetroot and quinoa with a honey dressing, it didnât It consisted of kale spinach with a sprinkle of quinoa. We did bring this to the attention of the waitress and she went back to the kitchen to let the chef know to which we was brought a plate of avocado along with some beetroot and dressing. My partner was very disappointed with the lack of ingredients so asked for it to be taken away.Another member of the party had the Sunday lunch which did not have the vegetables brought to the table until halfway through the meal,This was also brought to the attention of the staff. We did let the bar/ restaurant know of our concerns and when the bill came they did deduct the food that was returned but there was no apology and the waiter who brought the bill was very unsympathetic and quite abrupt. We would not recommend this place and will not be returning all it needed was an apology.

Booked for a birthday celebration. Staff were polite and smiling. Took our drinks order and we were served promptly. Ordered starters and mains. Varied dishes. Deep fried Brie, King Prawn curry, King Prawn in Filo etc. All very nice, lovely flavours. Mains, Seafood pancake, Chicken Stir Fry, Beef Stroganoff, Beef dinner etc. Each was beautifully done and a good sized portion. Ordered three rounds of drinks. All arrived promptly. (Glad to see they've stopped the 'orange slices with everything'). Grand evening and will definitely return.
