This is one of the friendliest pubs I've frequented, the staff are just fantastic and a real credit to the organisation. The kitchen has had a few hiccups in its time but seems to habe sorted itself out now and we have enjoyed some lovely pub grub from here. Hello Beth!Thank you for your kind words, we hope to see you again soon! We have live music every other Friday and every week during December.Kind regardsManagementHead of Steam8 Harland PlaceNorton

Five friends visited here. We all ordered drinks and opted for the pork loin in mustard seed sauce. It was very tasty, but unfortunately it wasn’t piping hot.We looked at the dessert menu, but all decided on coffee. Once again my coffee was not piping hot.The waitress was very efficient and friendly and happily took a photo of us all.Would visit here again, but not at a busy time, as the tables are very close together, meaning adjacent diners can hear your conversations and vice versa.Hi Im so sorry your food and coffee were not as hot as you would have liked, when you come to visit again ask to go into garden room which is more accomadating for a good chat

Toby Carvery

Reviewed By richardofthenorth

I visited Toby's for a quick pint and a chat on my way home last Sunday, I hadn't been for a while so was unaware they had new parking rules in place - then a week later out of the blue we have a PCN from Euro Car Parks asking for £85 (or £50 if we pay within a week)! It was not made clear that we had to input car reg into the system, and nobody saw fit to mention it the whole time we were there - I sure didn't spot any signs anywhere either :(Please be aware when coming here - that you need to INPUT YOUR REG somewhere in the pub I assume otherwise you may as well add £50-85 to your bill! This has totally put a damper on things. Shame, because it is otherwise a great place to come for dinner or socialising, and we were just saying when we left that we should pop in again next time we pass!Hi Richard, thank you for leaving this feedback regarding your recent visit. I’m sorry that you did not notice The signage at the entrance and in the car park about entering your registration in the console when you are dining in the Toby carvery or staying next door in the hotel. If you’d like to call in with your letter and member of the team will gladly show you where the console is located and also arrange the cancellation of the letter you have received from Euro carparks. If you quiet any further assistance then please call on (01740) 644222 thank you.

Visited for lunch last week and found the place very welcoming indeed. It's a quirky place that, along with the food offerings caters for real ale fans too.Food was cooked to order and arrived in good time with plentiful portions... I had a chicken stir-fry and partner a halloumi burger... I saw someone having nachos and they looked great too.Apparently the Parmos are pretty good too, so I'll have to return for one of those!Well worth a visit and we will be back.

I use this bar on a regular basis, once or twice a week, for a drink and a game of chess. It's friendly, the drinks are decent quality and reasonably priced, and the music is pretty good. However, this clearly depends on the person in charge of the bar. Today the barman on the mid-afternoon shift was clearly having a bad day. Depressing music and a depressing attitude which virtually chased us out of the place. However bad day your day there is no need to take out on the customers who help to pay your wages.Disappointing.Hi Alice, So so sorry to hear this, and would like to know what member of staff this was, as this is my business and i have a playlist of upbeat eclectc tunes that i insist are played for our customers, sorry you had a bad experience.. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN!!Steven James.

Had a breakfast Saturday morning to set us for a long weekend walk on the riversideReally lovely breakfast, nothing at all missing (as some are), really well cooked, lovely fresh bread for toastsCan't speak highly enough of this breakfast & kitchenStaff were great, One to note for walkers - We were allowed to take the dog in, -sat him under the seat (we fully understand when we can't so it's nice to know somewhere we can)Yes we will go back, yes we would recommedThanks very much, Terry M. We all massively appreciate your lovely comments about the food and the team here. Dogs are definitely welcome, I know this probably isn't the right thing to see but I think the Hope & Union crew are more excited about dogs than actual customers ;) Thanks again and see you soon.

The food was excellent and the menu was comprehensive (if you can't find something you like, I'd be astonished). Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the food was delicious. I won't wait too long before I visit again.

I telephoned the 3 Horse Shoes to book a table for 12 as it was my sons 21st. As we live away from the area we wanted to have a meal with family so it was easier for us to visit them. A lady answered the phone who politely accepted the booking and took my contact number. She asked if I could send my pre order in by the next day as it would assist them cooking and preparing the meals. I questioned this and asked if it was necessary as several of the party are elderly and do not have access to the internet. We do not live local and to do this would take time and effort.I asked if I could send a part order in but this was not acceptable. It was the way this lady spoke to me and became very defensive when I questioned her. The tipping point was when she said if there was no pre order it would take over an hour to prepare and cook and actually challenged me if i could manage it. I found her extremely condescending which resulted me taking my business elsewhere. I fully understand the rationale of pre booking but a bit of flexibility would not go amissHi, After investigating this I have to agree this could and should have been handled more professional. The main issue was the fact you did not know the number of diners and you were wanting to arrive at 7pm (our busiest period) and eat for 7.15pm. We do not cook our food in this manner therefore a pre order would have been necessary. I am disappointed you chose to take your business elsewhere and understand your reasoning. I do hope your son has a great 21st and I will use this example in our future staff training . best wishes John .
