Zhaimingsi

Reviewed By 619jeffry - Essendon, Australia

Zhaiming Temple is unusual because it is a Buddhist monastery, not just a temple. It is over 150 years old, founded during the Ching Dynasty, before the Japanese colonial era (1895-1945). The monastery has a statue of Guanyin, the goddess of mercy. During the weekend, the nuns serve tea and coffee, and free vegetarian food -- make whatever donation you consider appropriate. The monastery is included in Taiwan's top 100 religious sites. The aim of the monastery is "To uplift the character of humanity and build a pure land on earth." By the way, the monastery has a museum attached which may be of interest.

Wufugong

Reviewed By 619jeffry - Essendon, Australia

Wufugong will shortly come alive as the believers celebrate Lunar New Year. It's a very old temple. There is an incense receptacle in the middle of the temple, if you walk around in the right way, your wishes may be granted. By the way, Wufugong is not far off the main road.
