The Rip

"The Rip", also known as "The Heads", is a dangerous stretch of water in Victoria, Australia, connecting Port Phillip and Bass Strait. It is the only entrance for shipping into Port Phillip and hence into Melbourne. Because of large tidal flows through the relatively narrow channel from the bay to the ocean, and a high rocky seabed, The Rip has claimed many ships and lives. Geographically, it is t

You get good views of the Rip from Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale as well as Point Nepean Park but the best area is between Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale. It is great on a windy day or when the tide is changing and you can see the imporessive power of the water as ships go through the tree mile entrance to Port Phillip Bay.

Amazing aboriginal cultural experience by Anthony and the cafe owner who made traditional delicious lemon myrtle scones for our morning tea- fantastic experience to take our overseas guests. They learnt about tools, culture, land, stories, listened to the didgeridoo, learnt how to throw a boomerang and met and fed native animals - emus, kangaroo and wallabies. Super interactive, very accommodating and so friendly. Loved it and nightly recommendation it to everyone.

What an awesome area this is. Picturesque views abound. From boats in the harbour to the glistening sea, to the helicopter rides. Everything about this place is nice. Only downside was when we ventured in to town we felt uncomfortable with the locals staring at us. But we had no bother during our stay here.

Portarlington Mill

Reviewed By 619je - Keysborough, Australia

Portarlingtonj Mill was a steam-powered flour mill when the Bellarine region was "the breadbasket of the colony." The mill is made of local stone, ashlar built. The Mill is still strurdy and it is used for functions. The Mill contains many industrial antiques, which are worth seeing. The stairs are steep, but anyone of average fitness can handle then.

Fyansford Silo Art

Visited the silos on 28th March 2020, as the demolition had started. Revisited 13th May 2020. The silos are now rubble. Five star review as they were great while they were there, but even Rone (the artist) knew the artwork might not be there forever.

First time visit to the pool complex at Kardinia Park and was suitably impressed. Two 50 metre pools and hardly anyone in either pool - 2.00pm is a great time to go. All amenities were well maintained and staff were friendly. I will certainly go back again when in the area.
