Top 10 Points of Interest & Landmarks in Blue Mountains, New South Wales

June 10, 2021 Tynisha Seiler

The Blue Mountains are named for the delicate azure haze that lingers along the region, which is actually a fine cloud of oil emitted by eucalyptus trees. The mystical mountains are a labyrinth of plateaus, gorges and gum trees. Check out the Katoomba Scenic Railway (the steepest railway in the world), the Jenolan Caves and the Giant Staircase nature walk.

Day Gallery

Day Fine Art was founded in 2010 by Vincent and Helen Day. Our gallery focus is exhibiting artwork with a high level of visual sophistication, from colonial to contemporary Australian art. We work closely with a small group of emerging Australian contemporary artists, whose aesthetics vary widely. Whilst our curatorial philosophy is eclectic, the focus is on contemporary social and environmental issues. The gallery also has a strong interest in Australian artworks painted between 1830 and 1950.

Queen Elizabeth Lookout

Reviewed By PeterLangston - Tamworth, Australia

A spacious viewing area on several levels, makes it impossible to miss any of the view of The Three Sisters, one of Australia's iconic rosck formations. No less impressive is the Jamison Valley which is opened by the view. Toilet and cafe facilities are good at the venue and a shuttle bus willl bring you to the spot from Kattomba Railway Station and several other points of interest around Katoomba.

The Foundations Portland

The former Portland Cement Works are undergoing a transformation to become a cultural and tourism hub known as The Foundations. Featuring a large scale mural artwork by Guido Van Henlten, monthly markets, pop up galleries and museums.

Reviewed By Debbieayres - Buderim, Australia

The paintings on these cement works are amazing. Unfortunately for us, we could not access them so had to take a photo from the road as they were closed for filming. I would have loved to have seen around the back. The paintings are of former cement workers who lived in Portland. So well done.

Echo Point Lookout

Reviewed By ammyyyb - Terrigal, Australia

Echo Point NEEDS to be on your list when you go to The Blue Mountains. The lookout that's been created is incredible. The views are out of this world, the view of The Three Sisters is uninterrupted and breathtaking, there are walking tracks, multiple viewing platforms, what more could you want?! Being English, I loved that there is a lookout named after Queen Elizabeth! Made me feel closer to home. Get there before 9am and you can park for free. There's toilets on site and a restaurant nearby - this wasn't open when we went but from what I've seen online it looks like lovely food and the views of course would be incredible.

Leura Cascades

Reviewed By 336Chelsea - Sydney, Australia

I guess the Blue Mountains is pretty spectacular whenever you go, but the cascades are still something special. It’s a relatively easy walk from Leura, or if you are up for a challenge, walk in from Katoomba and work those legs! When done hit the high street cafes for a well earned break.

Lovely spot as it the town (Leura, with good places to eat and a good bookshop, though it seems the collectables hall is closing down, sadly), as is the nearby-ish Three Sisters Lookout (in Katoomba)!

Lovely walk to do in the afternoon, amazing art and very peaceful alley way. Unfortunately a lot of cars that can be in the way of the art.
